Burges Band Contest Results
The Burges Band Contest was last week. Ths year's contest was noticeably smaller, but with the addition of the 'start to finish' clinicans that is not surprsing. Undoubtedly the whole process was very helpful for those bands that took advantage of it. Hanks Jazz Festival Results
Here are the results from the Hanks Jazz Festival : Middle School winners are 1st- Indian Ridge, followed by 2nd-Montwood Middle and 3rd-Desert View. Great Guard Weekend, and a Concert Wednesday
There was a Winter Guard International Regional Championship in Phoenix this past weekend, and five El Paso Guards made the trip. The results for us were great. All the El Paso groups advanced to finals from the prelim round, with the Eastlake JV guard was 2nd in Scholastic Regional A, which is the entry-level class in WGI. Hanks was 1st, Eastlake Varsity was 3rd, and Bel air was 4th in Scholastic A, which is the next level up. Adagio was 1st in Independent A, the group for non-school affiliated guards. Lots of Jazz Events This Week!
Jazz band season is now in full swing, and this coming week is full of events celebrating this great American music form. On Tuesday, February 26, and Wednesday, February 27, the El Paso ISD Music Department will host it's annual jazz festival. The event will be held in Coronado High School's Ross Capshaw Auditorium is is open to the public. Tuesday will feature mostly jazz choirs and orchestras, while Wednesday will largely be guitar groups and jazz bands. Musical Events coming Up!
Jazz band season in el Paso kicks off today. Bel Air High School is sponsoring Jazz In Plaid, the first jazz band festival of the year. The event is Monday through Wednesday. The format for the event is a performance followed by an onstage clinic. Serving as clinicians for the event will be well-known local musicians Marty Olivas, Jimmy Olivas, John Scanlon and Ricky Malichi. Weekend Musical Happenings
A couple of events are happening this weekend involving our school musicians. On Saturday, December 1, the All-region middle school bands will be giving their yearly concert at Coronado High School at 4:30 in the afternoon. This is an early concert, so don't be thinking it's starting at 7:30 or so as is usually the case! Get there early and hear two bands that showcase the best of our area's middle school talents! State Marching Contest Prelims Results
