I agree with Katrina... you get a little something in your eye and a lump in your throat, watching the weather and waiting for them to land safely. I remember a few years back, heading in for rotator cuff surgery and needing desperately to know that the astronauts were home safe before I went in. Knowing what we can do in space bolstered my faith in the abilities of my surgeon and amazingly, I recovered my Ace serve! I even have the video, although much like actually being there, it's a real sleeper. ;)
Congratulations, Atlantis!!
some of us are looking at the stars
On January 28, 1986, I was home from school with the flu. I remember that, no matter what I did, I couldn't get warm, so I was sitting in a hot bath when my mom knocked on the bathroom door. "There was an accident with the space shuttle," she said, in the same voice she used when she told me th...
It just occurred to me, when you were playing t-ball, I was twice your age, and my greatest accomplishment, second only to survival, was reading Alex Haley's "ROOTS" in less than a week for a book report. This is what reading your blog has done for me, helped me to remember. You rescued me from Neverland, and now it's all coming back, one incredible experience after another. Thank you, Wil Wheaton. Happy New Year to you and your family. :D
the 2009 year in review, part one
The first time I did one of these posts in 2006, it was to secretly collect material I was thinking about including in The Happiest Days of Our Lives. It ended up being a lot of fun to look back at the whole year, though, and it created a nice introduction to my writing (which is one of those th...
I am one of many people, I'm certain, who are blessed/cursed with an awesome imagination, that survived the assimilation into adulthood and frequently prompts complaints from others such as "when are you going to grow up?"
That said, thanks for the lovely Clydesdale Visual.
As for the journey into expliCity "G.D." was the only speed bump for me.
Regardless, I enjoyed Ep 15 in all of it's endorse-ed, accompany-ed, podcast-ed splendor.
Does anyone really ever talk about Micro-brews anymore, without mentioning Portland :D Here's to hoping you are free to visit us in March ;) #Concon
knock me your lobes
Did I mention that Radio Free Burrito finally grew up and moved into its own URL at Radio Free Burrito dot Com? You can get all 13 of the old Radio Free Burritos (which I've christened "the archives"), as well as two new shows (cleverly numbered 14 and 15) which were recently recorded by me, Wil...
Never mind the rotted wooden beam, siding stripped away, crumbling like stale graham crackers. Never mind that beams life purpose of bearing the load of my second story paved entrance. Never mind the four by four post, now empowered to decide whether I descend gracefully to the ground floor or tumble ackwardly like a passenger escaping a downed aircraft engulfed in flames. I never mind when the air, clear and cold, claws its way into my lungs, only to reemerge, momentarily obscuring my view.... of this..

obscured by clouds
I never quite managed to get started today, and haven't written a single word that wasn't part of an e-mail or something stupid on Twitter. Dammit. So, in an effort to continue my daily-blog-o-phonic creative output, a very very short story: The wind came down the canyon and blew ice and snow i...
Guinness Bread...my dad used to make bread with beer..or pull apart tomato juice rolls.. smells heavenly, hehe.. Hobbits.. ;)
in which a tale is told about the preparation of soup
Anne is helping a friend move today, so she went down to The OC last night, in order to avoid the hellish traffic that exists on the Southern California freeways between 6am and 10pm just about every day of the week. This meant that Nolan and I were alone last night, free to watch the original ...
So sorry Wil, this guy-you-won't-post-a-link-to-for-obvious-reasons has to pay: the cost of the audiobook download x how many times it was dl'd from his/her/it's site, free Adspace on his/her/it's website for Wil Wheaton, for life, and a public apology, that is to say, a written/typed/vlogged apology on every social network where said Wil Wheaton is a member/a contributor/or is sometimes mentioned.
That's all I got.. wish I could enforce it, but I'd be willing to bet if the guy-you-won't-post-a-link-to-for-obvious-reasons isn't sociopathological and feels even a smidgen of remorse, he/she/it will heed my request for penance on his/her/it's own.
I'm hanging onto my faith in the good in people too...
P.S. Wil Wheaton gives us plenty of free stuff... can't understand people stealing... and by free stuff, I totally mean the Memories of the Futurecast.. I laughed so hard at ep 5, my young son hugged me, thought I was crying....
an open letter to the guy who put just a geek the audiobook on his website for people to steal
Hi there, guy-who-I-won't-link-to-for-obvious-reasons, I'm Wil Wheaton. I wrote Just A Geek, and I created the audiobook you're helping people steal. You may not know this, but I 'm just one guy, without a publisher, so when you help people steal this copy of Just A Geek by making it available f...
My first thought was that it would be some cool fold out cover for the PAX chapbook, I totally missed the distortion in scale, maybe I shouldn't slouch so much. Is your son pursuing a career in photo-journalism?? Nice clear shot.
a happy accident
A few months ago, a casting director needed to get a picture of me with my luxurious beard. Since I haven't had any headshots taken since I grew this magnificent beard, my son and I took my camera out onto the patio so he could take a quick picture that would be good enough for e-mailing on ...
My heartfelt condolences to you Wil and the Wheaton Family. Surely you were all as blessed to have Ferris as she was having you.
through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
My dog Ferris, who was rescued from a bus stop in Monrovia by my wife Anne almost exactly 8 years ago, had a heart attack and died this morning. It happened very quickly, and I was with her, which is supposed to make me feel better, but at this moment all I can feel is nearly-unbearable sorrow, ...
