So the iPhone has become our camera. And I don't upload to the desktop very often. So I set out to find a more convenient way to blog. Come visit our family at debloucannon.tumblr.com Continue reading

The something old is Rascal. The something new is also Rascal (or "Whiz", although he will most likely respond to Rascal)! We are happy to announce that Rascal has joined the Texas Cannon's household! He is adjusting nicely and is happy here (I hope). For those of you who don't know Rascal, he is our Aunt Brooke's 8-9 year old shitzu. Look for PICTURES!! ☺☻♥☻☺ Posted by Julie on August 17, 2012 Continue reading

This summer has been one for the books. First off, our original plans for the summer involved lots of play time, family vacations, trips out west, being together with extended family, etc. Then we discovered what can happen to the "best laid schemes". Said Robert Burns: ... But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane [you aren't alone] In proving foresight may be vain: The best laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry] An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain, For promised joy. To a Mouse (Written as an apology to a mouse whose nest,... Continue reading

Dave endured an extraordinarily difficult week. To prepare for a GI procedure, he was restricted to a diet of liquids and laxative. For four and a half days! He didn't complain much until the fourth full day. I had to be mean and insist that he drink as prescribed by the doctor despite his protests. His efforts paid off and the doctor saw all she needed to see Friday morning. We celebrated with eggs for lunch, then macaroni and cheese later in the afternoon, and then a Double-Double at In-N-Out for dinner. David was so very, very happy! And brave! Continue reading

10. She is shorter than I am, a fact about which I love to brag. 9. My mom is the best teacher in the world. And she has the master's degree and several awards to prove it! 8. She taught me the "teacher look." I used it on the annoying boys in seventh grade and still use it on my sons when they are making wrong choices. 7. She taught me to drive. To this day I drive when I need to vent. 6. She taught me to keep the Sabbath holy. Sunday is different, special, reverent. 5. She taught... Continue reading

James sang this song to us at dinner: Choose the wrong when a choice is placed behind you; Choose the wrong let the Holy Spirit not guide. I need to figure out if he came up with the opposites himself or if he is parroting something his rogue older siblings taught him. Either way it was clever and cute, if a bit irreverent. Tragedy, comedy, we had it all this week as we suffered sickness, explored new places, and frolicked with family. Julie's first attempt to crochet We begin with Julie two days before the start of Spring Break. She caught a stomach virus that, although it only lasts about 24 hours, spreads like wildfire. Two days later, on the very day we had planned to visit my mother, James, Jesse and I all caught it. The kids could be sick one or two times and then were fine for the rest of their "day off," but Jesse and I had additional symptoms... Continue reading

[IMAGE 1]After almost two years of battles with strep throat, Josh had his tonsils removed today. He was calm and brave. The nurses and doctors were all very kind and treated him like a king. He got to eat popsicles for breakfast. He came home with a bouncy ball, a green car and tons of stickers. Not to mention a sore throat. :-( We are going to spend the rest of the day watching movies and reading on the couch. Thank you, Nana and Pop for the "Goodbye Tonsils" book. It came just in time to read last night after... Continue reading

Feeling derelict because my children didn't learn to play all the sports before they started kindergarten, I signed Julie and David up for summer baseball at the YMCA. David's coach set up practices and whipped his team into shape in the three weeks prior to the first game. David struck out a few times, but hit a single every other time. He even hit a double one day. He played in the outfield most games, but played second base one day and tagged a runner out! My little slugger!!! Julie's team, on the other hand, got off to a rocky... Jamie, Rochelle, and family came down for the Fourth of July weekend. For the fourth, our church had a pancake breakfast in the morning, complete with slip and slide. The kids had a blast!. Later that day we went to a our own version of a rodeo (thanks Jamie for being the bull!): Fun times! Thanks Jamie, Rochelle, Emma, Weston, and Andrew for coming and sharing them with us! It was time for Julie's and my annual trip to the optometrist. I was excited to choose new frames. (Our insurance pays for new frames every two years). My old frames are thin, and the screws have come loose several times, causing the lenses to fall out if I am not aware. (My own screws are coming loose, but that is a story for another day.) The sun in Texas really is big and bright, and I need to wear sunglasses when I drive, or I get headaches from the glare. But I need to wear glasses when I drive... Continue reading

Julie asked me what we were going to do tomorrow. I told her to write it out on our "summer fun" white board (mostly so I won't forget anything). Two weeks in, our summer is turning out to be on the a-little-too-busy side. I had spent some time before school let out, planning ways to keep the kids busy, happy, and learning - fun things to do, new places to see. Alas, I acquired some extra hats as the summer began that leave me telling the kids, "Mommy has to work right now," as I spend hours at the computer... Continue reading

Five Stars!!! Jesse and Julie picked this book off the Newberry wall at Barnes and Noble before we drove to Austin for Memorial Day weekend. I wasn't that interested so I let Jesse read while I drove. My mistake! I was hooked from the first paragraph (nostalgia factor). Jesse liked the foreshadowing in the first chapter, which sets up the mystery. I liked Miranda, the main character: my favorite characters are ordinary people who grow through their experiences. Jesse liked that she was a good example: Miranda changed her behavior when she recognized that what she chose to do really... Continue reading
