Joyfolie has always been one of my favourite brands. I love their shoes, the story behind the company and the fact that Jessica Haley is a true creative. (Just read her blog for proof.) Joyfolie's new website launched on Tuesday and I couldn't help buying this gorgeous ruffled capelet for Charlotte. I'm imagining her having all kinds of fairytale adventures wearing it. Drop by Joyfolie to see their collection, which also includes shoes for women. They even a pair for a friend of mine who is particularly partial to a pretty pair of heels. (Lou, that's you!) Sponsored by ROC Boots I'm a new 'school mother' and buying school shoes seemed like a slightly daunting task. I had memories of being fitted during my own school days and knew the importance of proper protection and support for growing feet so I was thrilled when ROC Boots offered to come to our house and fit Hunter for his school and sport shoes. Last week after I finished work, Charles and Sally from ROC Boots stopped by to fit Hunter and introduce us to the ROC Boots range. Sally comes from the 5th generation Ausralian family who own ROC... A bird ballet | Short Film from Neels CASTILLON on Vimeo. Here's another magical video I couldn't help but share. Here's a note about how it came to be: "We were shooting for a commercial with my D.O.P, waiting for an helicopter flying into the sunset, when thousands and thousands of birds came and made this incredible dance in the sky. It was amazing, we just forgot our job and started this little piece of poetry... Thanks to the birds... (I'm not sure but I think it's starlings.)" Continue reading

Sponsored by Stuck on You It's an exciting time in our house - Hunter starts big school next week. He's beyond excited. I also started a new job this week so I've been working away getting organised in preparation for his big day. We've bought uniforms, his school branded bag and library bag and all of the other paraphernalia that goes along with an education. It's brought back lovely memories of receiving new coloured pencils and school supplies when I was young. (I still have a thing for stationery.) In getting organised, one of my primary goals was to make... Continue reading

It's an understatement to say I love a good print. I'd go as far as to say pretty fabric can turn a decidedly average mood into smiles and sunshine. And there's nothing but sunshine in the Winter Water Factory collection. I love every. single. piece. So do Hunter and Charlotte. Charlotte asks to wear this dress every day, which has been less than ideal considering temperatures here have been around 40*C (104*F) most days lately. It's the first thing she'll pull from here closet when the weather cools. Winter Water Factory also collaborated with Joy Cho from Oh Joy! to... Continue reading

There’s a certain humility that accompanies the truly talented; a quiet calm that seems to come from being able to create things of beauty. Jenny Batt of Hank & Hunt has that humility in spades. Sweet and generous, she’s just as approachable as her party craft tutorials. Blasting onto the blogging scene a mere three years ago, Jenny is now a darling of the DIY community. Jenny landed her first job at The Sweetest Occasion after responding to an open call for contributors and she still thanks her lucky stars for that first break. Since then, she has been approached... I started blogging in August 2009 because I was offered a position as a craft contributor for one of my favourite blogs, Bloesem Kids. Since then, I've produced a lot of craft tutorials for kids. Recently, I was going back through my archives and stumbled across projects I'd forgotten about so I thought it would be nice to do a roundup of some of the projects I've created. 1. Recycled Castle - use items from around your home to create this paper castle. 2. Scrap paper pictures - if you're like us, you'll have lots of paper in your house... Continue reading

I thought up these disco ball cupcake toppers when I was making plans for New Year's Eve but never got around to actually making them. Had I know just how quick and easy they were, I definitely would have made them with Hunter and Charlotte. I've included instructions below so you can get your disco on! Continue reading

Bold prints were a new trend that emerged from the Spring / Summer 2013 collections and they saw stripes, spots and florals (a trend themselves) take on a new dimension. These prints have already started to make their way into the stores and I'm sure there's only a small taste of what's to come. How do you feel about bold prints? I'm still undecided. [Shop the Trend: 1. J. Crew Scroll Print Dress 2. Dolce & Gabanna Floral Print Cotton Dress 3. J. Crew Mini Jules Dress in Geometric Print 4. Seed Heritage Pom Pom Printed Dress] Continue reading

Happy New Year! We spent New Year's Eve with three other families at a friend's home in the Blue Mountains. And guess what? Only three of the adults made it to midnight. It seems we all valued sleep more than seeing the New Year in! I'm so excited to be starting a new chapter. This year will see the start of some new adventures for us and I'm eager to see where we'll end up. 2013 is going to be a fabulous year. I can just feel it. [Image source] Continue reading

I've never been so happy to see a year come to a close. Without doubt, 2012 has been the hardest year of my life. I'm looking forward to starting fresh. Here's to lucky 2013. See you on the other side. [Image source] Continue reading

Where The Wild Things Are is one of our favourite books. And now, this print is one of my favourite prints. It's exactly how I feel about my little wild things. *** Do you have a favourite book or print? If so, I'd love to know what they are. Feel free to leave a comment (including links) below. Satorially speaking, boys really get a raw deal. There just isn't the same breadth of choices when it comes to their wardrobes. This, my friends, is why I'm so smitten with Little Titans. Little Titans are a range of tights created exclusively for little boys so their legs can be kept as cosy and warm as their sock-losing female counterparts. Chek out their striped, super hero and footballer tights to keep the toes of that cool little boy in your life toasty warm. Continue reading

Friends, Thank you for visiting me here in 2012. I'm hoping that 2013 will give me the opportunity to share content here much more frequently than I was able to this year. Until then, enjoy the holiday season with your friends and family. Best Wishes, Khali Continue reading

“Mumma?” Her voice calls across the still of the house. I hear the rustle and crunch of bed sheets, tiny feet meet floorboards and descend across the hall. “Mumma?” she says quietly again, her voice more urgent. “Here” I say and lift her into bed between us. “No,” she says rolling back towards the floor, taking my hand. We cross the black hallway and I lift her into bed. “Water? A cracker?” she asks. I collect a glass from beside my bed, a cracker from the pantry. She drinks all the water, two small hands grasped around the glass. I... Continue reading

Sponsored by Nuffnang Sometimes the best presents are least expected. Let me explain. Last week, I received a parcel in the mail containing a Thomas Steam n Speed. Last year, Hunter was fascinated with trains and had asked for Thomas and Chuggington trains for Christmas. Throughout the course of the year he’d spent hours building tracks, taking his trains on journeys. A whole twelve months later, which let’s face it is an eternity when you’re four, I wasn’t sure he’d be as excited to receive this gift. I put the package at the top of our bedroom closet with other... Continue reading

Charlotte is our little artist and brings home between ten and twenty drawings every day from preschool. I have a hard time throwing them out, which has quickly created an issue of where I should store her masterpieces. Enter Artkive. Artkive is an app that allows you to take, tag and save images of your children's artwork in seconds. You can also then turn their art into keepsakes. Thanks Artkive, mothers of prolific artists everywhere have just breathed a collective sigh of relief. Continue reading

I was watching this lovely video by Tiger In A Jar recently and had the urge to make pesto. I love fresh pesto, especially in a ricotta lasagne. Ricotta lasagne is one of those dishes I love so much that I make it with a frequency which makes my little family sigh slightly at dinner time. ("Oh not this again.") I love the utilitarianism of the Tiger In A Jar method of making pesto, but I have to admit I'm more of a modern girl when it comes to making pesto myself. I prefer to use a stick mixer to... There are ninety stairs. They sit at the halfway point on my morning walk and every day I try to run up them. They're steep and it gets my heart pumping. So far I've only conquered fifty-six. Each day, a voice on one shoulder says "Be happy you ran up fifty-six, you could have walked them all." "Be happy? You should be running the whole track instead of walking. Fifty-six isn't enough", the voice on my other shoulder contests. Before I had children, I took how easy it was to maintain a healthy lifestyle for granted. I worked out at... Continue reading

Last weekend, we were waiting in a cafe for breakfast in an area that's not really... family friendly. We'd gone prepared. Hunter was playing on our iPad and Charlotte had my iPhone. Several tables away another family tried to cajole their son who was melting down while they waited for their breakfast. Some local, hungover hispters staring at the poor mother with that look. You know the one that says "It's bad enough you reproduced. Please don't ruin our Sunday morning with your mistakes." I looked over and smiled and she mouthed back, "I forgot my iPhone!" It seems like... Continue reading
