This is my first post for 2017. I planned on posting sooner and other topics to start the year but life has a way of giving me topics that are timely and of the essence. I wrote this post last week while on an airplane flying back to San Diego. I went to visit my family and friends for New Year’s and to spend some time re-learning about our family business. New Year's is the time when you are excited to start new and many people are making resolutions for their lives. Yes, we all know which ones, exercising, eating... Continue reading

Greetings, Hope everyone had a beautiful ending to 2016 and even a better beginning to 2017. I was supposed to make this post on Friday but was traveling from San Diego to Virginia Beach and by the time I settled it was midnight. So I thought I will do it on New Year's eve or New Year's day but the WiFi where I'm staying was not working. I could have waited to next Friday but I really wanted to share the amazing "love letter" my friend Priscilla Stephan posted to bid farewell to 2016 and say Hello to 2017. I... Continue reading

Few weeks ago, I got to meet Rick Warren, founder and senior Pastor of Saddleback Church and Jeff Gonzalez, pastor of Saddleback San Diego. Rick Warren was present for the opening of their new church in the San Diego area. I cannot tell you how exciting it was for me to finally get to meet him personally. If you have read my blog before you are well aware that I blogged about his book The Purpose Driven Life few years ago. I was doing a 40 day fast during a very emotional and spiritual low time in my life and... Continue reading

The last two days I have been attending an event hosted by Nick Unsworth called Life on Fire. This 3-day event has surpassed all my expectations so far. How would I describe it? I would say that it is a Tony Robbins (like event) meet passion driven tribe, with purposeful and subject matter speakers, committed event leaders and staff that have a heart for people and changing the culture and world around them. No fluff, no gimmicks, no smoke and mirrors…simple and practical “how to” presented with a heart! The event website said that this event was “a MUST attend... Continue reading

When I saw this quote, I remembered an experience that brought significant healing to my life and thought it was worthy of sharing. I was ready to go to bed but I wasn’t sleepy so I decided to surf Facebook and that's when I saw the quote. “Love is not finding someone to live with. It’s finding someone you can’t live without.” The minute I read it I had this moment where my chest hurt. You know what I’m talking about? The one where you see something and it triggers a memory of something that painfully hurt you? Like that... Continue reading

Today I wanted to take a moment to thank all the men and women that served and are still serving this amazing country. Thank you for all you do and your sacrifices; your service is not forgotten! Remember to honor our service men and women every day not just on Veteran's Day! Fearless Frances Continue reading

This is a very personal post for me but felt it was important to share. There are many things that came together that culminated in what I’m about to share with you today but suffice it to say that I had to trust the healing process and the ability to be present at the precise moment to allow me to receive this beautiful gift. I had a personal encounter few days ago with someone that I had gone out in the past, not just dated but someone that I felt in my heart I truly loved. The relationship didn’t work... As promised, I’m posting pictures from my first “mini triathlon,” I completed the Super Sprint at Esprit de She in San Diego. I’m not going to give you a minute by minute account of the event but will say this; the swim was harder than what I expected, I was in the water on Saturday and felt very comfortable but woke up Sunday early morning with wheezing in my chest and I couldn’t get enough air to do the breast stroke so I did the only thing I knew to do to gain ground, I did the backstroke. Hey, don’t... Continue reading

Keeping it real! This post is to help me remember that I'm doing something I said I was going to do back in January. Yes it's happening, doing my first Triathlon. It's a super sprint, .24-mile swim, 6.35-mile bike ride, and 1.65-mile run. It's not a lot except the swim scares me dearly. The picture here is my first time going into the bay area. It was not as bad as I though it would be but I was winded and it took me forever to put that wetsuit on. The goal is to finish! Working through the fear for... Continue reading

I love quotes, I have been collecting them ever since I can remember. They always seem to come around when I need them the most; in periods of joy, sadness, loss, grief, you name it. This one showed up on my Facebook page few days ago and every time I read I cannot help but think that we need to keep our spiritual eyes open. Our feelings of loneliness, neediness and hurt will have us settling for anything and everything that is not right for us. Before we open our hearts, pay attention to the ingredients (behavior, words, actions, relationship... Continue reading

Two weeks ago I went to listen to a new band. When I got there the band was almost done playing the first set. Usually the dance floor is packed at this time on Saturday evening. It was a new band and many of the locals were probably not familiar with the band so it was less crowded than usual. Within 5 minutes of me getting there, the band takes a break and everyone goes back to their tables. The band starts playing again but nobody is dancing. Suddenly I see this older gentleman seating at the front, he is... Continue reading

Fearless Friday Post ~ {A Man Must First Find Himself…} I had something totally different in mind to post this week and two things happened. First, I saw this quote and second, I’m experiencing the effect of this quote as we speak. It has taken me sometime to understand the importance of learning how to heal a broken heart, mind and body. For the purpose of this post, learning to find safe people and staying away from the people that are not healed is crucial not only to your well-being but for their growth as well. More than anything else,... Continue reading

Lately my mind has been preoccupied with family and personal issues, getting ready for retirement and just life in general. It’s so easy to get annoyed when we have a plan to get things accomplished and the car won’t start, you slept through your alarm or you get lost getting to your appointment destination making you late. We tend to see this as annoying interruptions but are they? I found this on Facebook about people that survived 9/11 due to some unforeseen interruption and was reminded that sometimes God has a way to make us slow down, not in ways... Continue reading

Before I write about my topic I have to take few minutes to explain why I started this blog. Truly is not because I love writing, God knows that’s not my strongest suit. I started this blog in obedience to God’s word for me to write about my life and experiences, nothing fancy, nothing big but real, honest and from the heart. Throughout the few years I have had this blog, I tried several variations of what and when I post but in the end what works for me at this time in my life is posting on Friday. Usually... I had to share: Amazing sermon by Bishop TD Jakes based on the blind man that was healed and applicable to many of us searching for the truth and the light! Ref: Luke 18:34-39/Mark 10:52. Powerful and eye opening! Not writing a lot, sharing some notes to get you started but let me say that it starts with disruption. --Disruption can be described as a change of normal or status quo. --People develop a system (coping mechanism) that accommodates their dysfunctions (things that don’t work in their lives) and it becomes the new normal. --Siting in systems we have created... This is the last week before my grandson Gabriel (he is 14) returns home to Virginia. He has been with me for the summer for the past 6 weeks. If you ask him how he liked his time here he might tell you that it has been hectic. The first week he went to stand-up paddle board camp. Second week was surf camp and third week was beach volleyball. Fourth week he flew to Seattle to see his Papa and finally this week he had a break. In his own words, “it’s rough here, Mama (that’s me) doesn’t let me... Continue reading

Last Saturday, my grandson Gabriel (14) and I volunteered with the Dream Center in one of the largest homeless area in the nation. Skid Row in Los Angeles has an average of 3,000 to 6,000 homeless people a day with an average of 1,200 beds to accommodate them daily leaving 3,000 to 4,000 to sleep in the streets every night. Skid row or skid road is known as an impoverished area, typically urban, inhabited by the poor, the homeless, or others considered disreputable or forgotten by society. A skid row may be anything from an impoverished urban district to a... Continue reading

What do you do when you are not up-to-date with your electronic gadgets? You have a 14 yr. old grandson tell you what you need and why. Well, not really but it’s a start! Having my grandson visiting for the summer has been a lesson in entertaining, event planning, gourmet cooking, outdoor decorating with lots of lights and learning the latest in apps, music and iPhone terminology. Today I upgraded my iPhone 4G (which I loved by the way but it's almost on its last leg) to an iPhone 5SE so I could give my grandson my old phone as... Continue reading

On Tuesday I was driving with my grandson to do few errands. He is visiting for the summer and has been with me for two weeks now. The last few weeks have been challenging between both of us. He is 14 going on 28 if you know what I mean. The big topic of discussion has been having an iPhone and we told him he could get a phone (didn’t specify what type/model) if he did well in 8th grade. Well he passed but it was a struggle, however since he passed we figured we’ll get him a “practice phone”,... Continue reading

I don’t usually get all frazzled about life anymore but don’t get me wrong I still go through a lot of things I just don’t let much get to me. This week however has been one that has tried me. I’m basically six months out to retirement and working on getting all my paperwork ready plus dusting that old resume and starting to look at my next career. I also told my daughter that I would take care of her 14 year old son for the summer and he arrived this week. To be able to accommodate my grandson I... Continue reading

I have been writing this Friday blog for a while now and thought that I might want to give the definition of “fear-less.” You might ask, why now? Great question! Yesterday I had an appointment with my esthetician, I have been seeing her for 5 years but she was not available so I was assigned to one of her assistants. At first I was bummed, don’t get me wrong all her assistants are amazing but I like my girl. In any case, I agreed to the appointment mainly because I made the appointment at the last minute and well let’s... Continue reading

This week I had no idea what I wanted to write. It is not like I didn’t have something to say but with everything going on (killing of two black young men and 5 cops in Dallas and today an attack in Nice, France with over 75 people dead), I’m at loss for words. I found this quote from the Purpose Driven Life site and I felt that these words made more sense than anything else I could say. So in a world of uncertainty and chaos take comfort; “You are as close to God as You choose to Be.”... Continue reading

I cannot take credit for the write-up I’m sharing below; it was posted on FB by Pastor Kim Pothier. I couldn’t have expressed any better than she did the feeling of hurt, sorrow, sadness and shock that I’m feeling right now about the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. I’m mourning the loss of these two young men. To echo Pastor Kim’s words, we cannot go on pretending that what is happening to black families and friends it’s OK. Let’s be part of the voice that asks for truth and to raise awareness of the level of wrong doing... Continue reading
