All the best to Anne. What great company she has, though :) Seamus is so cute!
In which my wife is entertained by our pets, and I am amused.
Anne had minor ankle surgery last week, so she's been at home since Friday, recovering. Our pets are all incredibly excited that she's been a captive audience for them; both cats and both dogs have happily spent entire days on our bed with her. Yesterday, our cat Watson got himself all worked up...
She is adorable. You guys are so awesome to take in these animals who might never have had the chance to be given a home. What an amazing home she will have now. Pit bulls get a lot of bad press, but they are one of my favorite breeds. It's all in how they are brought up. One of my favorite dogs was a pit bull. I named her Bounce because she loved to jump in place. :)
Congrats on your new dog, she is super sweet.
Please meet the newest member of Team Wheaton
We were introduced last week at the Pasadena Humane Society, when Anne and I were there for a tour of the new facility WWdN readers helped raise the funds to build. We were standing in the lobby, talking about how much we love Seamus, when a worker walked in with this puppy. She had the exact ...
Love the Allman Brothers! Looking very much forward to all of your new blogs this week, and sosorry to hear about the ticket. I got one recently, and I am doing exactly what you are...guess it is like writing from the dictionary when I got in trouble in elementary school.
....and after all is said and done, what makes me more mad out of the whole ticket deal is the "have a nice day" with a half smile they seem to so gladly give after they write you up.
i've got one more silver dollar
I'm taking a break from my online traffic school (shorter traffic school: Don't be a dick, and slow the fuck down). I got a ticket recently when I misunderstood some confusing lane lines in Burbank. I thought they were telling me I could turn right from the two right-most lanes, but the friendly...
We need more people like those guys in the world. Loving all of your books...you're a really great writer.
all dressed up with nowhere to go
The audiobook I performed last week is called Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline. I don't know how many of you reading this today were around in the old days of WWdN (lots, I hope!), but if you were, you may remember when I linked to Ernie's spoken world on Fark. Ernie told me in an e-mail that h...
I can't imagine living your awesome life. You're doing what I've always dreamed of. Traffic or no traffic, I'd trade my life for yours anyday. It must be amazing waking up and loving what you do for a living everyday!
long line of cars
The traffic on the 101 was as horrible as ever. For no apparent reason, every lane of the freeway would speed up to 30 or 40, then come to a complete stop just as quickly. It took me 20 minutes to drive 2 3/4 miles. I thought, "I don't know how people do this every day, twice a day. This is soul...
Have an awesome trip, Wil! Sounds like so much fun for you. Wish I could be there! :)
In which Wil goes to Germany (updated)
The following was written about ten hours ago, on another continent. I thought I'd published it before I left, but it turns out I saved it as a draft, instead. Good times. I'm sitting in the lounge at LAX, waiting to board my flight to Heathrow. Sometime tomorrow afternoon, I'll end up in Germany...
It's so cool that you care as much as you do for all of us normal everyday people. I(and we) appreciate you and all of your hard work so much. I have 2 of your books I am making the time for to read as we speak. You're one of the best story tellers to date. :)
I really, really, REALLY hate DRM. Especially when it screws honest people.
I'm sure that many of you know that I hate DRM so much, it makes me want to punch babies. I have promised that I will never knowingly infect anything you buy from me with DRM. So you'll probably be as surprised as I am to learn that Lulu put Memories of the Future, Volume 1 into the iBook store ...
Lol...very cool! Happy 25 to one of the movies that defined my childhood. I always wished I had friends as awesome as the 4 of you were in the movie. Seems like it was summer '86 just yesterday, and I know it must for you. Rob knew he had a classic on his hands, and it has become just that. :) Can never hear "Rockin' Robin" without thinking of the treehouse scene.
Run Vern! RUN! GODDAMMIT RUN!
(created by Storm, for the Stand By Meme portion of Wil Wheaton vs. Paul and Storm)
It is just awful what has happened over there. I have no words. The pictures of the kids is what gets to me more than anything. My thoughts and prayers to Japan...don't know if that will do any good anymore, but I'll still send them. I just don't undrstand why things like this happen. Heartbreaking.
Thanks for the post, Wil. I have donated, but I wish I could do more, like many.
Direct Relief for Japan
One of my favorite webcomics is Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. Zach Weiner cracks me up every day, and a lot of his jokes are just science-y and geeky enough to make me feel smart when I laugh at them. In today's post, he writes: Hey geeks. No doubt you've heard a lot about the Japanese tsu...
I'm very sorry for your loss, Wil. My thoughts to you and his family. These are such kind words you've written here. I'm sure he would be honored.
in remembrance of Dwayne McDuffie
Last night, I met my friend Amy Berg (who created Cha0s on Leverage, and brought me into Eureka as Dr. Parrish) down in Hollywood for dinner. Traffic was horrible (surprise) so she'd been waiting almost 20 minutes when I finally walked into the restaurant. While I scanned the crowd to find her,...
You know, one could get a high off those scratch and sniff sticker things that always came with that book. It's kind of like the "Where's Waldo" books....someone always circled when they found him....bad enough I was on pins and needles waiting for the dentist and his bad news....then to find out Waldo had been found.
in which Highlights for Children is discussed at great length
Last night, on the way home from dinner, I asked Anne, "Do you remember Highlights for Children?" "Of course I do," she said, "I remember how I hated going to the doctor when I was a kid, until I started reading Highlights in the waiting room." "Turn right at this intersection," I said, "and Tra...
Such a good book. Your writing just gets better.
The Day After and Other Stories goes digital
tl;dr: The Day After And Other Stories is once again available for download. It's $4.99 at Lulu. Yay! In December of last year, I released a very short collection of very short stories for a very short time - just ten days, actually - as an experiment in releasing short fiction. It sold fai...
Take it from someone who has gone 10 rounds with the college path. I have had a very hard time...quit going for a while, worked full time....have recently gone back, and am working on my teaching degree in hopes to obtain the privilege to teach at the college level one day. Somedays I just don't think I'll make it between the full time job, etc. but I know I have to keep on keeping on. Your writing is an inspiration behind my career choice, and I have you to thank. Maybe one day I will make it. And no, I am long past my teen and early 20 years, but I guess we are never too old too start again, huh?
Have a good week, Wil.
a point of clarification
Yesterday, I overheard some twentysomethings complaining about how much they hated their jobs. After a few minutes, it became clear that none of them took high school seriously, and at least a couple of them had dropped out of community college because it was, in their words, "too hard." I Twitt...
Wil,you have such a nice family. You must be so proud. :)
I can't believe your website is 10 years old already...gosh time goes fast.
In which I am a proud father
"I have to tell you," Jonathan Coulton's wife said to me on the last night of the cruise, "how wonderful your boys are." "I have two daughters," Peter Sagal's wife told Anne, "and I hope this isn't weird or creepy, but I really hope they meet guys like your sons." "Dude, you know you raised your...
Your blog is what makes my day go right. Thank you for being the awesome that you are, and giving the world sooo many wonderful stories from your brilliant writing. I wish for You and Anne to have a very, very blessed and safe 2011! Have a great trip, Wil. :)
Happy New Year. I'm on a boat.
I'm going to be on JoCo Cruise Crazy until January 8. I thought it was kind of important to stay connected, keep Twittering and blogging and Internetting while I was on a boat, but after much deliberation, decided that I will not be purchasing Holland America's Yes, We Use The Whole Fist int...
Can't wait to get it....I have enjoyed all of your books, and this one is sure to be another favorite. I am just waiting for when you start your own line of comic books....now, that would be AWESOME!
Happy new year :)
Let's take a ride out, see what we can find
"If it's true about there being no rest for the wicked, then I must have been very naughty indeed." -Charlie Stross Yes, I just compared myself to Charlie Stross. It must be the coffee and lack of sleep talking. Go me. I leave for JoCo Cruise Crazy in just a few days, so I've been too busy prepa...
Going to order mine tonight! Can't wait, and congrats!!
We should all be blessed with your good looks. Merry Christmas and a very happy new year, Wil. :)
of books and beards
Sales of The Day After and Other Stories have blown my expectations away, and the feedback I've received has been overwhelmingly positive. I'm relieved and happy that so many readers are enjoying it, and if you're one of them, I thought you should know that you've given me +5 to my saves vs. Par...
This is cool, Wil! Lol :)
Robot Astronomy Talk Show: Destroyer of Worlds
A few times a year, I get to go over to the Spitzer Science Center at Cal Tech, and do some voice over work for these wonderful educational shorts. I'm really proud to be a small part of IRrelevant Astronomy; we're making science accessible and entertaining, and hopefully inspiring people to lea...
Wil Wheaton: Father, Author, Actor, Blogger: A truly Smurforable and cool guy.
merry smurfin' smurfmas, mothersmurfers
This is crying out for a caption. I'll choose my favorite, and send something neat* to whoever writes it. Submissions open throughout the weekend, one per person, and can only be left as comments here (it's too difficult to track on Twitter or via e-mail). *definition of 'neat' will be at my s...
They are lucky to have you in their lives. The older my parents get, the more I cherish these kinds of moments. My dad is nearly 70, and well, you know... Got to hold on to them while you still have them. Thank you for this sweet story, Wil.
... because we're actually together, not just sitting at the same table.
Ryan was home for Thanksgiving, and as part of Operation Make The Most Out of Having My Entire Family Together for a Few Days, the four of us went out to dinner early Saturday evening. After we put in our drink orders, I got up to wash my hands. On my way to the washroom, I passed a mom and two ...
What a great day! I love your family blogs!
in which i spend a day as both father and a son
My son Ryan came home for Thanksgiving, and before he left, my dad and I had planned to take him and his brother to play Frisbee golf. When I got up today, it was fifty-seven degrees below zero, and the wind was gusting with gusto (HA HA HA), and I knew the conditions were not, shall we say, opt...
I love this story. It is so true that sometimes just looking at nature and the things around us can give us the most comforting pleasure and make our day better.
the circling hawks
Two days in a row, in two different places, twenty miles apart, I’ve seen two hawks circle in the sky above me. I know it’s simple coincidence, but I like to believe that they’re the same pair, soaring gracefully and beautifully on thermal currents just for me, so I don’t forget to appreciate th...
Funny you should write this post at this moment in time...I have had black cats or A black cat following me for the last two weeks. I have almost come to the conclusion it is some type of sign and that it is the same cat out to get me...lol. I mean, it is really freaky getting out of your car at night in a big parking lot and having this glowing green eyed creature of the night eyeing your every move....maybe I have just seen too many Stephen King movies....maybe it's my crypt keeper come to life...although, "come to life" seems kind of ironic for a crypt keeper. Keep an eye on those hawks, Wil.

So you're really not trying to starve us? We get to have our Burrito and eat it , too? ;)
Can't wait! With all this popularity, I bet you feel like it is 1987 again, huh? Congrats on all of your new projects, Wil. :)
knock me your lobes
I have begun a new project, which until I come up with a better name is called Project Do Something Creative Every Day For The Rest Of The Year (Yes, This Includes Holidays). The first entry in PDSCEDFTROTY (YTIH) is a new episode of my neglected and long-overdue-for-updating podcast, Radio Free...
Aww, I love this! How lucky for that sweet dog you guys came to his rescue. He looks so sweet....we have one like him we are trying to adopt out.
I bet he loves to hear you read, huh? ;)
Good memories in the making.
good afternoon
