Indiana
I transplanted from the sunflower fields of Kansas to the rural bush of Tanzania as a young child. Growing up among the Maasai tribe I learned much about what it means to be resourceful, to have respect for the natural world, and the intrinsic value of creating with your own two hands. I now live in Indiana where people are generally warm and hospitable. I am a lover of tea, old things, letter writing, surprise adventures, and intimate conversation.

One of the most magical times each week is Thursday nights with this little mermaid...who is sometimes a fairy...sometimes a princess...but always something magical. Tonight I listened to her sing in the tub about her day at school. A confident, heartfelt melody. And always close to the end of bath time, she will pop out of the water to make sure I notice her lovely mermaid hair. Yes dear...it is beautiful mermaid hair. <3 Story time, best of all, follows a bath. Each week we pick up a book or two...sometimes the classics like Dr. Seuss...but usually something involving fairies... Continue reading

Working in the customer service industry, I see the best and worst of humanity daily. They say that it takes 10 positive things to undo the effects of 1 negative. The math doesn't often add up in favor of positive...but I was reminded yesterday that people can change. I have a new co-worker who asked about the tattoo on my forearm. I forget it's there sometimes...though it was so meaningful when I got it. Explaining what it means to me, requires re-entering dark times. Times of deep depression and trying to end my life. And so, I told the condensed... Continue reading

Started a new day with tea from the farm last summer. I have finally begun to harvest from my own little herb garden. My room is messy, in part, to make room in my little closet for drying. Marshmallow was hung yesterday. Spending a nice quiet morning with baby Zion before I'm off to work. Lusting after time to make the creations found in Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter. Check her out! Glad the sun is shining so bright today... Continue reading

I should be cleaning my room right now. Instead, I am lost in contemplative silence that follows when the city sleeps and you're mind is trying to sort through the day. I am losing the daily presence of a dear friend one week from today. My heart aches selfishly as my friends slowly move on around me. It's quite surreal actually. My whole life I have been that friend that moves on. New place, new home, new friends every couple years. Sometimes less. I'm 25 years old. Actually closer to 26 now. The age when you are looking to settle... Continue reading
