To keep reading my drivel, visit The White Room (http://thewhiteroom.typepad.com). Remember, it's better to be skiing and thinking of God, than sitting in church thinking of skiing. Continue reading

Hey all. I have not blogged in awhile, and I kind of feel like picking it up again. Why not, you know? I think eventually the demons go away and you just pick up the pieces and start up life again. That's what I'm doing, and I'm excited about it. Anyway....this site will eventually die. Off Camber feels like another life to me, and in many ways it was. But fundamentally, I think a big difference is that skiing has become my #1 activity, whereas back in the day it was definitely mountain biking. I don't know. Somebody once asked... Continue reading

I thought I'd share this. I'm hesitant to show my photos to people because I feel like it's pretentious. But I thought folks might appreciate these. This was two days ago. I went for this hike on the coast and came to this point far out on a peninsula. And the waves were just HUGE. So I shot this sequence on rapid fire, and I thought it showed the power of nature pretty well. It was cool to see the tourists scurrying too! It makes me happy when nature shows she is stronger than all our human silliness sometimes. Continue reading

In the name of the best within you, do not sacrifice this world to those who are its worst. In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of people be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless in those who have never achieved his title. Do not lose your knowledge that man's proper estate is an upright posture, an intransigent mind and a step that travels unlimited roads. Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all.... Continue reading

i should probably find something new to do each night other than hike a mountain and photo the sun setting over the ocean. then again, if it ain't broke. kind of enjoying just getting to know myself again, building physical, mental and soul strength, and healing in a quiet manner. Continue reading

got a position volunteering at the humane society. awesome and good for the soul. it's also a wildlife rehab center, and i'm hoping to get an opportunity to work with some of the rescued raptors. anyway, i got to walk two dogs yesterday: meet rowdy. rowdy is a big, strong super friendly puppy. well, he's not really a puppy - he is a seven year old lab retriever. he liked getting pet, and almost knocked me over in excitement. he had kennel cough, so i could only walk him around inside. this is snoopy! i would take this dog home... i managed to sneak in a climb up 14,505 foot tall mount whitney a couple days ago. a great peak. 7,000 vertical, 22 miles round trip. here are a few images. 5 am start. got to enjoy watching the sunrise over death valley orion's belt guided the way early on. headlamp pre-dawn hiking is a nice time to think and enjoy the silence. amazing alpenglow lights up the heart of the sierras. i love the layers of the light in this shot. my sister said this photo didn't look real. like something out of lord of the rings or something.... Far from home on a road unknown Where the vultures circle on winds that blow From northern skies that haunt these waking moments On shadows cast by the mountain range On calloused soles we find our way Through desperate eyes, we long for the horizon While this sun is rising When cries for help go unanswered And signal fires just burn and burn We wonder if we're waiting here for nothing Our lips are sewn our ears are filled With the constant drone of the unfulfilled But we'll never fall if we stand for something We stand for something Don't...
