I don't know because I'm turning 40 right at the start of December and I just know that that is going to blow my mind for a week or so, and then it will all be too late. Too late, I tell you. I think I might just get a bulk box of cloves and stick 'em into oranges. Laura would be grateful...dammity grateful!
Don't Hate Me Because I'm
Already Thinking About Christmas. Yes, I am the girl that said something truly foul when I saw red and green melmac-ish plates in target in September. And yes, I am also the girl whose friend said in that moment, "Really? You're gonna get mad about this? Really?" So, while I don't want to go a...
Excellent refashion, I love it when you can make your faves live on and on.
Summer Bag
Hiya! Haven't had much chance to sew with two houseguests staying in my sewing room...but today I managed to sneak in there to make a summer bag out of a girls dress (I wore it as a long top) & a lace trim singlet of mine, both of which I hadn't worn for 1-2 years but were still hiding in my dre...
Thanks so much...it really was very easy, and I really am a relatively new sewer, so totally do-able. I hope I can replicate that fit with my next one, I've already forgotten which t-shirt I used to guide the bloody thing!

"Before" This is Liz Claiborne top, op-shopped from the bargain rack for $4 (is it just me, or have other Australians noticed that Vinnie's and Salvo's prices have suddenly gone UP? It's because it's so fashionable, I'm sure!), while the knit fabric is good quality, diappointingly the shape...
So clever Jen, and so much nicer than the jumper it was!
ruffled scarf!
I've had this merino wool men's sweater lying around. It was this ugly gray color, so I've been searching for a project to recon it into something that I'll use and love. And here it is! I used this tutorial on dying with beets. I used this tutorial after I dyed the scarf pieces. I decid...
Out of my regular 'haunts' only "Y's Buys" (run by the YMCA) has kept the prices low. This is also the shop where I'm most likely to find fantastic treasures, and have a lovely chat with the older ladies who run the place and always have great tips for altering or refashioning! Worryingly, people in real need shop at these places - how are they supposed to afford them?
Op-shop Happy
Did you ever have one of those dreams where you walk into a shop and find beautiful things, that fit you perfectly, and they're only 10c each? And then you wake up. Frumpy, bloated and your tongue feels like the bottom of a birdcage. Or is that just me? I went to the Op-shop the other day, to...
Thanks - it was so easy and I only broke two needles 'trying' to miss the pocket studs!

Yes, of course! What about Marion Cunningham Goes to Vegas?
Worth Mentioning.
Okay, so I already told you that I've put up a patternless baby dress tutorial, but what I DIDN'T tell you is that it's the same basic process I use for making these polyester lovlies: And I know that some of you are still struggling with the whole POLYESTER ON A BABY deal, but seriou...
This is what I want to make with my navy and red polyester - I like your tutes, they're do-able! Really, really ado-able.
Patternless (Almost Pin-less, Almost Measure-less) Baby Dress Tutorial
In honor of SCRAPBUSTERS MONTH over at Sew Mama Sew, I finally put together that baby dress tutorial I've been threatening to offer up! Toddler Action Shot It was a hoot to put together. It's over here. Go make some scrappy little dresses, eh?
What are you naming these ones Ginger?
Worth Mentioning.

OH, I BOUGHT it alright! And it's looking at me right now and blowing me kisses!
Craft Debt #7 (Desperately Cute Kitchen Apron): CHECK
(Craft Debt Update.) My goal: REALLY cute Kitchen Apron that will make her sigh from disbelief at its cuteness when she puts it on to cook. Mission Accomplished, Tom Cruise. I think you already know this about me, but I love me the apron. They never get old for me. I've made and remade and re-en...
Oooh I know..nothing (nice) to see here between waistband and shirt hem, I'm loving the tshirt refab as well..only problem is the only tshirts I'm finding in the thrift shop seem to all say "Team Building '07"...JUST like Business Night! No Joke!
The Tshirt: As Underappreciated as the Sandwich.
I have long said that the sandwich is the most underappreciated food genre. And let's just say, if you believe this, you're missing out. Seriously missing out. And so I'd compare the humble tshirt to the humble sandwich in its abilities to transform a wardrobe . . .if you're, willing to refashio...
You'e so right...there is nothing like the idea of someone finding and opening mail that you've MADE and sent! There's also nothing like finding a piece of classic red with navy diamond polyester in an op shop and thinking how much someone you've never met, on the other side of the world would LOVE you to amke her bag pattern with it!

WHERE did you get white GOGO BOOTS??!! Did you have them in your wardrobe, hidden up the back?
Sometimes I dress up in funny outfits.
I made a costume. It was a hoot. Remember this? (I made it in Adult Ed Sewing Class. Of course you did.) Well, it became this: And yes, I did sew those stretch white polyester short-shorts. Because, um, where do you buy stretchy white polyester short-shorts? Right. This is my point. Rea...
We're just coming into Spring so I have the opposite problem: my 8 year old has grown about 7 foot tall, so her tops are all too short. I'm about to add strips to the hems of her tshirts that I've cut from t-shirts that I've refashioned for myself. Jersey and those stretchy knits are really forgiving, so you could lengthen her sleeves with your old tshirts, otherwise (I learnt from My Mama Made It), you could just get a top that does fit her, place it on one of your tops, cut the outline (with a little seam allowance) and sew it up. Sleeves the same, and then play with the neckline: gather it, pleat it, sew in shirring elastic..Good fun! Good luck!
Getting better
Hi All! Well, this is by way of an apology as I haven't posted this week. I have managed to find some time to do a couple of re-fashions and I have also managed to ADD to my pile of things to re-fashion. This really isn't going the way I planned. Oh well! I could do with some advice, please lad...
Thanks Care, and they're so easy, they make excellent last minute gifties...and change the dimensions and you can make a perfect purse to accent your big night out, without the big bucks! And perfect for those thrifted zips that are only wee lengths.
Catch Up
It's a sad thing when you have to wait for your 11 year old son to 'be available' to download your photos, because your head just can't retain the information required. Firstly, because I have a degree dammit, and secondly because why should he have a better social life than me? That said, her...

So good the way you can facilitate the fabric conversation, I usually end up
asking my 8 year old! I'm thinking you need to add a tute for putting on
the very cute button flap. I'm far too lazy to figure it out without
getting a nosebleed, but I'm guessing you might add it just before you sew
the tiny turn through hole?
Go Ahead and Ruin It, Ginger (Craft Debt Item #6: CHECK.)
(Craft Debt Update.) The surprise, I mean. I'm going to ruin the surprise. Because I finished this bag last night for my friend in the NW and immediately stood up from my table (after hand sewing on that eye-rollingly cute vintage button) and said aloud to my Sewing Machine, Ro. That's easily th...
Best bag! Do you just make it up as you go along?

WOW! Is he single? Because it looks so good on him, he won't be for long! That's what I mean.
The Hand Off: Craft Debt Item #2--finally.
(Craft Debt Update.) So this is a biggee, because I've been sitting on it For. Ev. Er. Okay, for a couple of months. But still. So here's the messenger bag I finally pulled off for my friend Anthony: The strap is a car seatbelt which we fit to him--he can adjust it once it's clicked on. Pur...
Love it! And I think it fits you perfectly - it'll be great for autumn with a tiny refashioned shrug!
Stashbusting!!
Ok, not so much a refashion but, it has cleared my stash of at least 2 metres of fabric, which is one of the reasons I joined in the first place. I will eventually get round to the 'great wardrobe clearout' (I feel that should be preceded by a drum roll, any wannabe Meg White's, feel free to vol...
