Hi. How was your week? Ours was good until we heard about the school shooting. I simply have no words... 1. We do not get all crazy up in here for Valentine's Day. Never have. In fact, I really only remember "celebrating" Valentine's Day once. In college. In 1995. That said, I do love any excuse I can find to eat in our dining room on the fancy china. And Valentine's Day is a perfect excuse. #1 missed dinner because she had swim, but the other three were home. They had sparkling grape juice - a favorite round here: The... Continue reading

WHello! I'm back after taking a week off. We were in Colorado last hence the radio silence. 1. We had a fabulous week! While we would have loved to have gone skiing over spring break, we couldn't get our condo that week and we were tired of trading it out or selling the week and finding something else. After all, we bought the condo for the location and amenities and wanted to actually use it! So we decided to pull the little girls out of school Monday - Wednesday (they had Thursday and Friday off). We left the big girls... Continue reading

Hello! Did you have a nice weekend? Ours was fairly busy running around which is par for the course for us. So all good. 1. #3 had a belated birthday party last night. She was in Ohio the weekend of her actual birthday and then it was Thanksgiving and then it was Christmas season so this was really about the first weekend that we were available for a party. She had a blast, though, so it was all good! She invited four friends to join her for ice skating. (All of our girls LOVE to go ice skating!) Two of... Continue reading

Thanks, Karen! I told Cate we will not visit any schools until she gets accepted. The exception of course is if we are in the area or something similar. Only time will tell. Kids are fickle so who knows where she will end up but she has been stuck on Hawaii now for quite awhile!

Hello! Did your weekend fly by as fast as ours did? Could someone please introduce a permanent 3-day weekend?! Anyway, let's get rolling... 1. It was a pretty darn busy weekend for us. We had 4 soccer/futsol games, a basketball practice and game, tennis lessons, a piano lesson, Boots and Bling, along with the usual errands and meal prep. Yesterday was especially brutal because the majority of our activities ALL took place yesterday! Not to mention the last soccer game didn't start until 11pm. And #3's two soccer games were both 30 - 40 minutes away. I almost used half... Continue reading

I'm not off to a very great start, am I? I totally missed blogging last night. At least I'm back today to make up for it! So let's begin... 1. We had a productive weekend around here. #1's shower is this close to being done. Tiled. To being done tiled. I special ordered two corner tiles and they sent the wrong ones. And we ran out of thinset before we to put down the threshold. But other than those three pieces, we're calling it done! And honestly, I don't mind the grouting as much because it's not as dirty as... Continue reading

I can't believe I just typed 2018 - it still feels so strange. I'm excited for this new year. I think it's gonna be a good one! I feel like this post is going to be long since I have 3 weeks to cover. Quite a bit of what I'm going to write about will feel outdated but since this blog is a bit of a personal journal, I'm going to go back to before Christmas. Ready? Here goes! 1. I felt really good about our Advent calendar activities. I did a great job of mixing volunteer opportunities into the... Continue reading

I feel like I should do "12 on Sunday" to make up for last week but (spoiler alert) that's probably not gonna happen! 1. I turned another year older on the 5th. My birthday was on a Tuesday this year but it was really a delightful day. My two girlfriends and I started out the day like any other Tuesday; with a short run. We ended up at Starbucks and warmed up with coffee and hot chocolate and time to chat. (It was REALLY, REALLY cold that morning!) It was such a nice way to start my day with two... Continue reading

Hello! Did you have the amazing weather we had this weekend, too? It was glorious! Although to be honest, I would not be mad if we got a little snow right now, either! Anyway, let's get going... 1. The Christmas countdown has officially begun in our household. Ralph, our elf, does not come until December 1st. The waiting until Friday was PURE TORTURE for #4. She was ready for his arrival all last week as she heard kids at school talking about their elf. But we held out and true to form, he did not show up until Friday morning,... Continue reading

Welcome. Did you have a nice Thanksgiving weekend? We sure did! 1. As in years past, a big group of us started the day with the Thanksgiving Day 5k. In all my years participating in that event, this year was by far the most beautiful weather. It was almost perfect! 2. We hosted both our families again this year and there were 17 of us at dinner: I got smarter this year. I had serving dishes for everything so we could easily pass around the food. Last year some of the food was still in the pan from the oven... Continue reading

Can you believe it's the week of Thanksgiving?! Damn, the older I get, the faster time flies! 1. We celebrated another birthday in our household this week. #3 officially turned 11 years old on Wednesday! Man, I love that kid. True to form, my little carnivore selected steak, roasted asparagus, and risotto for her birthday dinner. Of course we ate in the dining room and the kids enjoyed sparkling grape juice. Since her real birthday gift was a flight to Ohio, she had opened two Squishies on her special day. She was thrilled! At 11, Caroline is... Sweet. Still. She... Continue reading

I'm here! I feel like we have a LOT to catch up on since it's been three weeks since last we "talked". So I'm just going to get going. Who knows if this will be Six or Sixteen on Sunday?! 1. Two weekends ago I was in Columbia, MO for #1's swim meet. We didn't roll in until almost 9pm Sunday night so it was way too late for me to blog. Plus, I was exhausted. I'm not sure how many years #1 has been attending that swim swim meet, but it's definitely one of my favorites! I love the... Continue reading

Hello! Did you have a nice weekend? I hope so! 1. We (or actually I) have installed a new rule at the dinner table. If someone burps or farts, they have to drop and give me 20 push-ups. Or, 10 push-ups and 10 sit-ups. (Because push-ups are HARD, man.) I love this game! The last two nights I have caught #1 burping at the table. At first she refused to follow my rule. But then I reminded her that I was the one who paid out allowances and I could withhold such allowance if my rules were not followed. She... Continue reading

Hello and Happy Sunday! I don't know about you, but I have Sunday Night Anxiety. I'm not ready for the week to start. I need one more day. Oh well. I can't make time stand still. 1. We had a great weekend! Friday night started off with a bang on the soccer fields. #2 had a game... I do enjoy watching the girls play under the lights. I just wish this game had been at the fields close to our house. We didn't get home until almost 9pm. While the girls technically tied the game, they should have won. They... Continue reading

Hello! Did you all have the beautiful weather we had this weekend? I hope so because it was gorgeous here! 1. I received my Butcher Box order a week and a half ago. So far we have had three meals using the meat and so far so good! Our first box was $149 and included all this: I feel like that is a pretty great value for high quality, grass-fed meat. The box included: 2 6oz filt mignon (my FAVORITE!) 2 10oz New York Strip 2 1lb bricks of ground beef 2 10oz boneless ribeyes 3 1lb boneless, skinless chicken... Continue reading

It's October! You know what that means, right? The beginning of the holiday season. First Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Christmas, and finally New Years. Wow! I can hardly believe it. 1. We decorated for Halloween today. (Well, actually, #4 and I started yesterday.) I failed to take pictures today because it was such a whirlwind but I'll snap some this next week. It looks very similar to past years because the kids like to keep things the same. Tradition and all. It's all good, though! The younger three live for this stuff, especially #4. I love their enthusiasm, though. It's simply... Continue reading

Hello! I'm feeling good because it's Sunday and I'm here. I'm winning! Let's get started... 1. I started a new job last week! Yep, just 10 months after I started my last new job I've already moved on. I definitely enjoyed my time in the crop insurance industry but after a few months I knew it would not be a long term play. Rather than do nothing, I became proactive and started looking for a better long-term fit. And you know what? I think I've found it! My new title is Pricing Manager in the Consumer segment at CenturyLink. I'm... Continue reading

Hello! So I totally tried to blog last Sunday night but Typepad was down. OH well, we can get caught up now. Grab a seat because this one might be long; after all, I've been gone for three weeks! 1. I missed blogging over Labor Day weekend because we were down in Arkansas. We got lucky and had fabulous weather the entire weekend! We did all the usual stuff: Farmer's market on Saturday morning, shopping at Elysian, boating, tubing, skiing, wakeboarding, and kayaking. We even managed a bonfire one night which meant s'mores. Man, I love s'mores. They have to... Continue reading

Hello! Did you have a good weekend? We did! So let's get started... 1. Both our soccer girls had games on Friday night. While it was logistically challenging (game at 5pm on Friday which means the kids have to be there - Wyandotte - by 4:30pm, which means you leaving the house by 4pm is difficult for working parents), it was awesome to have both games done before the weekend really even started! That meant we had zero activities to attend yesterday or today and it was AWESOME! I'll take two games on Friday night anytime to give me a... Continue reading

If you read my last blog post, you know what this is about. It's that time of year again! Picture Time! I absolutely love taking pictures of kids and families. It's so much fun and I truly get so much joy out of it. That's why I'm offering photo sessions for the third year in a row! For $200 you get everything - the session itself and a minimum of 35 images - all hand edited -available to you on a jump drive. You are then free to do with those images as you wish. (Although I'd recommend a beautiful... Continue reading

We made it. The kids transitioned back to school like champs. None of us were ready but we all knew we couldn't do anything to stop it. They made it three full days last week so props to the girls! Let's get rolling... 1. I took the day off work last Monday and spent it with the girls. We started out by heading downtown for brunch at You Say Tomato. It was an adorable, very eclectic little restaurant on the corner of 28th and Holmes. My only complaint was the crazy strong smell - I think it was sausage? And... Continue reading

Donna, I really would NOT install any Morningstar product if I were you. They call it "bamboo" but I believe it's really more like glue with a little bamboo. (I had an attorney contact me as they were contemplating a class action lawsuit because of the glue used in the production.) It scratches so easily and you said you have pets. Honestly, I'd stay away from anything that is not truly a hardwood that is installed and then sanded and stained. My $0.02. Good luck with your decision.
Hello! I hope you had the beautiful weather we did this weekend. Loved it! 1. I am so sad school starts this week. I'm not ready. I'm never ready. I just LOVE summer with my girls. But, sadly, there is nothing I can do about it. So, rather than mope around, I cleaned. And I asked all the other people who live here to clean as well. In fact, we did more than just clean. We DEEP CLEANED. It felt like I was nesting! I went through every drawer and cabinet on the main floor. Everything is now organized and... Continue reading

Hello! I'm back after taking off last week. So let's get caught up, shall we? 1. Two weekends ago we headed to my mom's house in AR. We also managed to talk the hubby's parents into joining us down there. We had a lovely weekend full of the farmer's market, shopping, and boating! In fact, the big girls and I had an awesome time shopping at our favorite boutique, Elysian, while at the Farmer's Market in Bentonville. We each walked away with a couple items and couldn't have been more happy. (I found a pair of jeans for $25 that... Continue reading

I made it! I'm here. We had a fabulous trip to Lake Okoboji and made it back with time to hang out at the pool with the kids today. Perfect! 1. Remember last week how I told you half my garden was destroyed? Well, I went to a nursery and the woman I talked to there suggested I pick out seeds and try planting crops that way. I figured I had nothing to lose so I bought these and planted them last Tuesday night: I still need to go out there tonight and see if anything has popped up. I'm... Continue reading
