For quite a long time, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank referred to cotton as the "enemy." But the two have since made amends. The Baltimore based sports performance brand is actually embracing the fabric in their latest venture, the launch of an innovative performance cotton collection called "Under Armour Charged Cotton." Despite the use of a different material, the cotton collection will still possess the same qualities that consumers love most about the brand's current offerings. The new gear wisks away moisture with signature technology and dries five times faster than ordinary cotton. Charged Cotton also offers the much-needed stretch... Continue reading

Sean Avery is no stranger to the world of fashion. The Rangers winger has interned for Vogue magazine, served as a design collaborator for menswear label Commonwealth Utilities and always earns a spot among the best-dressed athletes. He's even admitted that when his hockey days are over, a career in fashion is definitely in the cards. In his latest fashion industry gig, Avery has teamed up with design guru, Marc Jacobs. Ironically enough, this collaboration involves no clothes at all. The Canadian hockey player is the latest celebrity to strip down for the designer's "Protect The Skin You're In" campaign.... Oakland A's fans will probably be happy to hear that the team has done away with their black alternate jerseys. The A's unveiled their newest look for the 2011 season, a gold jersey that will now serve as the home alternate to the traditional white uniforms. The new on-field fashions have a bit of a retro vibe, since the A's last wore gold in the 70's and 80's. So how does the team feel about their new gear? General Manager Billy Beane referred to new look as "canary yellow" and reliever Jerry Blevins said, "It might be hard not to... Continue reading

The primary competition in Dallas on February 6th is of course the football game. The secondary competition is of course the hair. It was only a matter of time before Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews, often nicknamed "Fabio" because of his long blonde mane, scored his very own hair endorsement gig. The linebacker has inked a one-year deal with Unilever’s Suave brand of hair care products. Prior to the new gig, Matthews made his interest in a hair endorsement very public sharing this on Monday: "I've been throwing it out there and just getting shunned. I don't know what it... He might be a monstrous force come gametime but off-the-field, Troy Polamalu has got a softer side. At least in the eyes of female NFL fans. CNBC's Darren Rovell reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers safety has the best-selling jersey among women. So while they love Tom Brady's model looks and Drew Brees' model family, Polamalu win theirs hearts with those long, luscious Samoan curls. Perhaps his football skills and good-hearted nature have a little something to do with it too. Either way, the exposure from Troy's Head & Shoulders endorsement deal certainly helps his cause as does the fact that... Continue reading

The San Diego Padres unveiled the team's new "Marine digital" camouflage jerseys which will be worn during Sunday home games this season. As a team closely associated with the Military, the Padres came up with the camo concept in 2000, yet the new look represents only the third different jersey to be worn. "Our goal is to honor the men and women of the military," said Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel. The Marine digital look has replaced the traditional "Woodland" pattern by the military. The digital reference comes into play because the design was made on a computer and... Continue reading

Last month A Glam Slam shared the news that tennis champ, Rafael Nadal, would be the newest face of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans. The ads won't officially launch until next month, but luckily a few shots have already surfaced. Rafa definitely sizzles in the new ads, where he shows off his perfectly chiseled body in both a pair of tighty whities and a pair of Armani jeans. You'll also be able to catch Rafa on the court, as he is currently competing in the Australian Open. Unfortunately, he will be fully clothed. For now, take a breath and... Continue reading

Thanks to the NBA Shop, we now know what basketball's biggest stars will be wearing on-court for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. The game will take place in Los Angeles on February 20th. For quite awhile now, the all-star jerseys each year have been a bit outlandish, often featuring crazy patterns and gaudy designs. This year the adidas jerseys are red and gold for the Western Conference and blue and silver for the Eastern Conference. Both "East" and "West" appear in block lettering, where shadowing gives off the illusion of "bling." Perhaps a nod to the glitz and glamour of... Continue reading

Men's Fashion Week in Milan recently wrapped and athletes were out in full force to support their favorite designers. During New York Fashion Week back in September, sports stars like Amar'e Stoudemire and Roger Federer scored front row seats to some of the most coveted runway shows. As designers in Milan showcased their men's Autumn/Winter 2011 collections, the same was true for a variety of European sports stars. Giorgio Armani's first love might be fashion but coming in a close second would be his love of basketball. The Italian designer even sponsors a basketball team, conveniently named the Armani Jeans... There's been a lot of talk about female fashions at the Australian Open and rightfully so, but what about the bling? Many have discussed that too short, too revealing, too bold on-court attire can be a distraction to players and their opponents, yet their jewelry can do the same thing. Several competitors have been seen wearing long dangling earrings, necklaces, bracelets and even rings during tournament play. Aside from interfering with their game, most of these sparklers are so expensive that losing them during a match could be an even worse distraction. In fact, the term "tennis bracelet" itself became... Continue reading

During the baseball offseason, Mark Teixeira has spent some time working on his style. Following in the footsteps of his teammate, Mariano Rivera, who was the face of the Canali brand this past year, Tex has scored a fashion endorsement of his own. The New York Yankees first baseman has become the new face of Joseph Abboud’s Hart Schaffner Marx brand. The Yankee All-Star knows how to dress well both on and off the field but he'll be getting some additional styling from Abboud, who will personally create Teixeira’s wardrobe for the entire year. As part of the deal, Tex... Continue reading

What's a tennis tournament these days without a little clothing controversy? We are only three days into the first Grand Slam of the year and Venus Williams' on-court attire is already the subject of much criticism. It is certainly not the first time that the Grand Slam champion has sparked major fashion discussion due to her risque attire. Much like her 2010 French Open lingerie-inspired outfit and 2010 U.S. Open "fireworks" dress, fans are buzzing about yesterday's Australian Open ensemble. An internet search for "Venus Williams short dress" would show you just what we mean. The "short dress" was self-designed... Continue reading

The Nike brand outfits almost all Syracuse Orange teams with their uniforms and shoes. Just about one year ago, they unveiled new uniforms for the Orange men's basketball team. The "Nike Hyper Elites" as they are called, celebrate the school's culture and tradition and their design still continues to be a topic of conversation during games. Though he might not get to wear the new uniform come gametime, Jim Boeheim pledges his allegiance to Nike through his sideline accessories. The Cuse head coach was spotted wearing black-rimmed eyeglasses that featured the iconic brand "swoosh" in white. It's not the first... Continue reading

When former University of Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez was fired on January 5th, it prompted this tweet from A Glam Slam: We know that when a team loses a championship game, their pre-made winning gear is typically shipped off to Third World countries. But when it comes to fired coaches, what in the world do they do with their team wardrobe? Many coaches have signature sartorial styles be it a sweater vest, hooded sweatshirt or polo but regardless of what they choose to wear, they no doubt have a closet packed full of team attire. New branded sideline designs... Continue reading

"We hope when people think of Morehead State, they think of a championship program that's the absolute best-dressers in America." - Coach Tom Hodges As a first year head coach, Tom Hodges was eager to bring publicity to a team that was attracting less than 1,000 fans a game. When brainstorming gimics to help garner media attention, he decided it would be best to let his clothes do the talking. Or in this case, the yelling. The typically conservative dresser took a major fashion risk and now the Morehead State women's basketball team is reaping the rewards. Hodges had contacted... Continue reading

Post-season play means it's time for NFL stars to take their game to the next level. Their fashion game that is. Last weekend A Glam Slam shared the post-game presser style of New York Jets RB, Ladainian Tomlinson, which included a sleek pinstripe suit and Louis Vuitton accessories. In keeping up with his AFC competition, Pittsburgh Steelers' WR, Hines Ward, made his own fashion statement when he took to the podium following yesterday's battle with the Baltimore Ravens. Ward did his very best Walt Frazier impersonation, rocking a white ribbed turtleneck sweater and a high-collar fur coat. The only thing... Continue reading

Fashion plays a larger role in sports than many people realize. While the primary concern of fans, players, coaches etc. is of course the game, all parties are embracing fashion more than ever. If A Glam Slam were to create a “Best-Dressed Athletes of 2010″ list, it would look a lot like this. So instead, A Glam Slam has compiled the “Hits” and “Swings & Misses,” which encompass the best, worst, most buzzed about and most controversial, sports fashion moves of 2010. Here they are, in no particular order: A GLAM SLAM’S 2010 FASHION “HITS” “Back to the Future” Uniforms... Continue reading
