Inc. Magazine recently featured their picks for the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30 and we were delighted to see TEDActive attendee Sarah Prevette on the list. The 28-year-old is the founder of Sprouter, a site for entrepreneurs to share tips, network and collaborate. When she started her first venture (a website for teens and tweens), Sarah found it difficult to get advice from other entrepreneurs and turned her attention to creating a space where anyone beginning a business could get the help they needed. Watch the video below to hear more from Sarah or check out her profile on Inc.... Continue reading

All of us at TEDActive 2010 already knew that Krupali Tejura has a big heart and a tendency to save the day. It comes as no surprise that her local news station figured it out too. Last week, Krupali was featured on the California-based channel KTLA as part of their series "Heroes at Home." They captured the amazing story of her commitment to a patient who was a fan of violinist Andre Rieu. Not only did she buy this patient and her husband tickets to his concert, but when Krupali tweeted about their situation she got a response from Rieu... Continue reading

We're starting a new feature on the TEDActive blog, highlighting a video, story, person or anything at all really that we think embodies the Active spirit and that our community will enjoy. As much as we can, we try to be about doing and making things and having fun while we do, so for the first of these posts we couldn't think of anyone more appropriate than Amy Krouse Rosenthal who recently spoke at TEDxWaterloo. After watching her talk, we fell in love with the video she showed that documents a gathering of total strangers that she initiated under "The... Continue reading

On May 6, the evening before TEDxEast, a small group of attendees met to take an underground tour of New York City with none other than our TEDActive co-host, Rives. Besides being an amazing spoken word poet and one of the funniest hosts a conference could ask for, Rives once starred in a series called Ironic Iconic America, taking audiences across the US to find hidden gems of pop culture in every city (so he's got some experience in hosting tours). As part of this little excursion, there was an impromptu TEDx6 Train. Apparently, if you stay on MTA's 6... Continue reading

The TED.com translators are an integral and important part of the TEDActive community, inspiring us all with their dedication in bringing TEDTalks to the world. Today marks the first anniversary of TED's Open Translation Project, and in only one year 4,000 have signed up to become volunteer translators, completing 7,000 translations, with 2,000 more in progress. We'd like to say congratulations to every one of translators and thank them for all they do -- and we got to do just that with a few of them when they attended TEDActive this year. Here are there experiences there, via the TED... Continue reading

Today, the first talk from TEDActive 2010 was posted to TED.com. It's a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek statistical analysis of TEDTalks by Sebastian Wernicke that brought the Showlounge to its feet and had us all crying with laughter! Some of the comments on Sebastian's talk: While this talk was certainly awesome, I was BLOWN AWAY by the energy in the TEDActive audience. No comparison to the Long Beach group. -- Jason Soll Nothing better than a nerd with stage presence. I'm gonna build my dissertation defense with the tedPAD! -- Patrick Aderhold I was going to call this fascinating, but he was... Continue reading

TEDActive social media workshop being held at the Noah Purifoy Site, Palm Springs This year at TEDActive, pre-conference activities and the first TED YOU talks were held at an amazing desert sculpture park created by artist Noah Purifoy. Today, the New York Times reported that a sculpture of Purifoy's that was thought to be lost forever has been recovered and will be shown in a 2011 exhibition at Getty Museum in LA. This particular piece is significant because it was constructed from the rubble and wreckage of the Watts riot, constituting a piece of history not only for the artist,... Continue reading

Via the TEDBlog!: When the John Lennon bus came to TEDActive, a special opportunity was created for attendees -- they were given the chance to collaborate on a music video that would tell the story of their ideas for what the world needs now. Jill Sobule, John Doe, Sara Watkins, Stuart Johnson, Don Was, Dave Way, Krish Sharma and the amazing team on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus came together to create write, perform and produce an original song, on-site during the conference. Carole Young has attended quite a few TEDs, both the simulcast and regular conference. She keeps coming back to the simulcast for a few reasons, that she shares below, along with some sage advice on getting ready for TEDActive. Today, we've got TED virgin Kenneth Hughes explaining how he's preparing for TEDActive. Coming to TED for the first time is pretty exciting, possibly intimidating, but most of all, fun! Kenneth has been putting some effort into getting ready for the conference, asking all the right questions and generally making sure that he gets the most out of his experience. How are you preparing for TEDActive? I am embarrassed to admit this, but I am very methodical and relentless beast -- I personally seek to make my first experience as if it were my sixth time going. I am an... Continue reading
