I can see the family resemblance. ;-)
In which I am a proud father
"I have to tell you," Jonathan Coulton's wife said to me on the last night of the cruise, "how wonderful your boys are." "I have two daughters," Peter Sagal's wife told Anne, "and I hope this isn't weird or creepy, but I really hope they meet guys like your sons." "Dude, you know you raised your...
Ha! Wonderful story, Wil. Funny and sweet (and ridiculous) without going over the top. I am happy for you and Anne that you have each other! Lovely!
good evening (and good night)
"I want to have a date tonight. Do you want to have a date tonight?" Maybe I should have passed her a note that said "check yes or no" but after fifteen years together, I often think of these cute and clever things hours after the fact. Anne looked up from her magazine. "I like having dates with...
Zomg. Speaking of beguiling, horrible, opposite-of-fun experiences... 'Angle One' is on SyFy right this minute! Alluring and highly attractive... yet so horrible! I will revel in the opposite-of-awesomeness.
P.S. I'm looking forward to more memories of the future!
the most beguiling, horrible, opposite-of-fun experience I'd ever had
Reader G.M. e-mailed this picture and said, "How the f**k I ever believed that THIS was E.T., I'll never know -- but I still played it for hours and hours." The picture unlocked a memory I haven't thought about in a long time, but wanted to share: Around 1982 or 1983, before City Walk at Un...
Yay! I really enjoyed your keynote, Wil! Your enthusiasm was such a great start to the day. It was my first con and I really felt welcomed and psyched to be among the gamer community. I only wish I had a three-day pass so I could hang out for the whole weekend! If and when PAX East returns to Beantown next year I will be attending the entire event, fer sure.
I hope all the PAX attendees have a wonderful rest of the weekend! Have fun + stay healthy!
games are important. games matter. #PAX is where we come together to celebrate that.
The adrenaline and excitement from an incredible day at PAX East is finally wearing off, and I'm on my way to sleepy time, where I am a viking. Before I go to bed, though, I wanted to share a little bit from my keynote today. This is excerpted from my speech: Gaming is the foundation of the be...
I am so super extra ultra excited to see you deliver your keynote next week!
At first, I thought that the timer represented your preliminary run-through of the address, and I was perplexed. I thought, "Either Wil has a LOT of editing to do, or I can't figure out the units of measure on that there timer."
Good luck on the editing and Boston is psyched to welcome you to our city!
time keeps on slippin'...
As some of you know, for the last six weeks, I've been working night and day on my PAX Keynote, which I deliver in 176 hours. It's been a long and sometimes agonizing road but after intensely bouncing drafts back and forth with Andrew this week, I have a draft that I can begin polishing. This me...
Hooray! I'm super excited that you are speaking on the day that I'll be there!
Happy. Dance. Happydance.
Huzzah!
I am delivering the inaugural keynote at PAX East
I just realized that I mentioned this on Twitter over a week ago, and it's been on a lot of the gaming sites, but I never actually carved out a little hunk of blog-o-state to mention... I am giving the inaugural keynote address to PAX East in Boston on March 26th. I've been working on my keynot...
Eek! When I read that I said, "Zomg I haven't bought my passes yet!" I hopped on over to the PA site and was so very sad to see that many passes are already sold out. I managed to get Friday passes, which should make for a superfun time (although I suspect I may miss the extra ultrafun going down on Saturday).
I'm looking forward to the event! This will be my first PAX AND my first Con. I'm glad to have the PAX folks coming to see us in Boston! Woo!
In which Wil discovers that he has Bioshock 2 Elbow.
My arms hurt so much today, I can hardly lift a cup of coffee, and I feel quite silly. This is how it happened... I played ice hockey all through high school and into my early 20s. I loved being a goalie, and after going to lots of Kings games with Nolan in January, I decided that I was going to...
How timely! Just last night I reached a moral crossroads in DA... do I side with my people, or do I do what is truly right (which is how I have played the character). Fortunately for me, I can play Nancy Nice-Rogue and see how the story unfolds for me, while my boyfriend plays Bloody McMagerson and I get to see the other side of the coin.
Also, my boyfriend's mage is named "The Dude" and bears as much a resemblance to Sir Jeff Bridges as the character creator will allow. Tis hilarious.
regarding the matter of video games v. movies
I had the house to myself last night, so I could watch whatever nerdy DVD or DVR'd movie I wanted, as loud as I wanted. I've been talking about re-watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended editions, of course) for a couple of months, but when I finally had a chance to get started, I ended...
Huzzah! I have placed my order and am awaiting its delivery in my mailbox.
I look forward to remembering.... the future!
In which Memories of the Future Volume One is released
I am beyond excited to announce the release of my newest book, Memories of the Future, Volume One. I worked harder on this book than anything since Just a Geek, and it wouldn't have been possible without a bunch of people, who I thank in the book, but wanted to thank here, as well: Andrew Hacka...
I love it! I also agree with your comment about the little glimmers of Something Great within the overall crapitude of the episode. My favorite moment from The Naked Now is the drunken flirting between Picard and Dr. Crusher. Knowing what a great story developed between them throughout the series, and how much I enjoyed (finally) seeing something more than a friendship acknowledged in the end, watching that scene now is just great.
Also, it's fun to shout at my boyfriend, "Not now, Beverly!"
Keep up the good work, Wil! I'm looking forward to more futurecasts!
Memories of the Futurecast: Episode Three
Hey look! It's Monday, and that means it's time for a new Memories of the Futurecast. Memories of the Future, Volume One, covers the first 13 episodes of TNG, so each week, I'm choosing something from one episode, and performing an excerpt for you. It will mostly be from the synopses, which i...
Yes, that's what I figured. I hope you (and all the PAX folks) get well soon, because after the stars comes the 15-minute laser light show tunnel... and nobody likes that.
in which a proclamation is made
I seem to have come down with some kind of post-PAX flu. It's not the Swine Flu, but I am coughing so much even I have grown tired of saying "my god, it's full of stars." I can't really focus long enough to write the PAX post I want to write (it's at about 30% completion, I guess) so please allo...
When I first read your post, I thought you wrote, "My god, it's full of SARS."
Which is funny. And yet, not.
On a side note, I am presently watching your episode of Leverage on the TNT website and enjoying it very much!
Take it easy and feel better!
