Happy Birthday Wil. Oh and without you the Nerdist Podcast live @ SDCC wouldn't have been half as fun.
I noticed that I was old when Futurama had to remind me last week that the show had suicide booths. Man...
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
Oh man. Don't worry Wil, nobody is going to think you are an ass because you don't like to be stalked. At least not the people you care about and who care about you :-)
Thanks for sharing. The way you told the story was the exact right way if you ask me. Especially the "I don't mean you, I mean you" part and the "I know I won't reach the creeps" and the quote from Dancing Barefooot shows that you really think about these things and that worth so much.
Perfect post on this topic. Kudos :-)
if you cut me, i will bleed
Pretty much all of Comicon was awesome. However, there was one thing that was decidedly not awesome, and though I had initially decided not to talk about it in public, it's bothered me since it happened, so I wrote about it on G+ earlier today. I'm cross posting it here, though, because it's imp...
Dude... this made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
So don't you DARE scare us with a "dunno I have a tumblr and a Twitter so I don't feel like writing this up for my Blog" posts ever again.
Posts like this one are like crack for geeks, nerds and dads all over the world. It teaches us how not to be dicks.
YOU have a mission. You are the chosen one ;-)
On the meeting of Nathan Fillion (or: The Obligatory Comicon Post)
Comicon was awesome. The Eureka panel was funny and everyone in the audience seemed to enjoy themselves. The consensus from the cast and producers was that I did a good job moderating, and I felt like I managed to get out the talking points the network wanted me to get out under pain of death wi...
"UPS" means "Oops" in German ;-)
UPS shipping fail - updated (see end of post)
I shipped two boxes of books to Phoenix on Wednesday, to arrive here by 1030 this morning. I paid extra for this, like you do. As 11am rolled around and my books still weren't here, I got a little nervous, so I checked online to see where my packages were. It turns out UPS fucked up and "incorre...
This is my lottery ticket. I want to win!
(Hate Paypal but what can you do...)
*Fingers crossed* :-)
a very limited (I mean VERY limited) autographed book lottery
Yesterday, I said: I found nine hardback copies of The Happiest Days of Our Lives that I must have put there when they first arrived at my house a couple of years ago. They look as perfect as they did the day they were taken out of the box. So I have this idea to sell them, that goes like this:...
I have to admit I read Ken's blog first and only later on yours. It's all connected with TVS and CCTV. The overlap indeed is enormous :-)
one small step for man
Ken Levine, on the anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing: I honestly don’t remember whether we saw video or just heard audio when Neil Armstrong made his historic first step. You’d think that would be indelibly imprinted in my brain but it’s not. I’ve seen the video so many times since but ...
Idiotic spelling comment: you misspelled "Diaspora" in the link to its website (the link is correct though)
on the internet, nobody knows that you're a dog
I mentioned this on Twitter, but as Twitter has grown and grown (congrats, Biz and Ev!) it's become very "in the moment" and not the best place to put very important things like this: There's a page on Facebook that appears to be mine. The problem with this is that I don't use Facebook, and I do...
Nice Umlaut there Mr. Wheaton :-)
Überragend to be precise ;-)
Wow, nice shirt . . . Moonpie.
I love that this line has been immortalized in T-shirt form , not only because it's one of the funniest in the episode, but when we were rehearsing the scene it comes from, I grew a level in comedy acting: During one of the run throughs, when Jim did his Klingon bit, I turned to Kevin and as...
My reaction was exactly the same. I came back week after week and they changed the show significantly I think - or I understood what they were going for better.
Still hate Chuck though. That show is just stupid.

I'd pay 5 bucks to see you perform. But I don't really need to be able to ask you a question... you tell so much stuff on your own I'm pretty used to just receive rather than interact.
ten quick things, including some math, a comic, and a few ideas
I can't believe it's Friday, which means tomorrow is the weekend. Where did this week go, anyway? A few things I wanted to mention before I get busy: 1. If you'd told me a year ago that I'd be going to bed between 9 and 10 every night, then waking up entirely on my own between 6 and 7 the next m...

to mark the passage of three thousand six hundred and fifty-three days together
We went to Napa for our tenth anniversary. For the record: being married to your best friend rules.
How very "Tales of Monkey Island" of you :-)
OK *sigh* I have to admit I didn't read Memories yet. I'm driving 4 to 6 hours a day and listen to Podcasts. When I come home, I read RSS feeds all day and magazines that have been piling up for two years now. Quite a nice stack - about 6 feet high.
What I'm getting at is this: I read your stuff on TVS and want MOOOOORE new stories. If I "let you" do the audiobook, those would be pushed back. It's also the reason why I can't bring myself to sit down and read Memories Vol. 1 - it isn't fresh enough - but listen to the Memories Podcast - because it has new, fresh stuff in it.
So basically what I'd want you to do is drop everything and do an audiobook of episodes 14 and up. Yeah I know that's not going to happen anytime soon.
So I guess as a way to generate income, the audiobook is a good idea, and I'd buy it. Even in episodic form. Hope you manage a way to handle the subscriptions, because (as mentioned above) I'd want to buy ALL of the episodes in advance (just like "Tales") to give you a solid base to do your work with the option to do other stuff in between and the added pressure to finish it. Whatever, that's your decision.
BUT: I bough "Just a Geek" from you in audiobook form and I like the Memories Podcast so much more. You already added tidbits i Just a geek and you deviated even more from the text of the book in the Memories Podcast so to make all of us buy the audiobook version of Memories you just HAVE to do it like the Podcast. Do it like this post here. Drop everything in you want to. Look at @thatkevinsmith - he's answering a simple question with 45 minute monologues of anal ruptures. I guess I'm speaking for a lot of fans out there when I say you can deviate as much a you want, heck you can put in stuff totally non-related to the book if you ask me. As long as you got your recording equipment (iPhone 3GS *hint hint* ;-) ) working correctly you can just read a chapter once a week and drop in bonus material worth about the same amount and I'd pay for that. A buck per hour I guess.
you may ask yourself, "how do i work this?"
I stayed up way too late last night, waiting for Nolan to get home from the Horror thing at Universal. When I was younger, staying up until 3 was no big deal, but making it past midnight is a serious challenge, especially since my stupid brain insists on waking up between 7 and 8 no matter when ...
Just wanted to mention that I never hated the Ferengi nor Wesley. Never ever. I got TNG as one of the few shows on SSVC, the TV channel for the british troops stationed around my home, we had a Braun TV which was able to decode the audio from that channel and that way I got TNG two years before it aired on German Television. Together with Knight Rider TNG was the best thing on earth to me and my brother and the reason why I picked up "learning English" as my one true hobby. I loved that British guy posing as a Frenchman and that guy with too much makeup posing as a robot and the guy in the chair pretending to be Kirk and the woman with the boobs - and hey I was TWELVE back then and you were my hero. There, I said it. You were a geek, I was sitting around all day playing games on my Atari ST which NOBODY and I mean NOBODY else had (they all had C64s and put me on the instant outside).
Anyway - I loved that Braun TV and it made me connect to you back then. I love technology too because now I'm able to tell you this from over here.
ugly bags of mostly water
I know, I know, posting Twitter conversations is the new posting pictures of your cat, but if you'll indulge me one more time, I think some of you will be glad you did: @levarburton: The Angels have demonstrated genuine character tonite... Unlike the Dodgers who simply punked out!!! @wilw: @lev...
The B-story (the other story) was "meh" at best - I thought you were under-utilized. The show didn't make me laugh as much as previous ones but that is ok since I think BBT is making itself into the Nerd-Entourage (re: Summer Glau) with this (or Curb, pick your poison).
I bet my ass we will see @wilw again in a future episode. And that's why this one is ok for me, I didn't mind that I wasn't laughing hard all the time, I saw this as the beginning of a wonderful relationship of BBT with you. Can't wait for more. I want Sheldon to make that ass Wil Wheaton eat his own words.
Like, you know, a challenge. And the loser (@wilw) has to wear something truly demeaning, inconceivably, horribly ugly.
Like a pumpkin colored sweater or something.
The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary
I'm at w00tstock right now, and I haven't even seen the show, but I thought it would be fun to write a post in advance so anyone who watched The Big Bang Theory tonight would have a place to talk about it. If everything goes according to plan, this should post right as the episode is finishing o...
So what is keeping you? Sleep? Spending time with your family? Shame on you! ;-)
PDF version of Memories of the Future Volume One available now
Before I get to the "Hey, I released Memories as a PDF because you asked for it" portion of this post, I wanted to share some early feedback on Memories of the Future Volume One: "@wilw's MEMORIES OF THE FUTURE is my TNG DVD commentary of choice. Fun and funny and a blast to read all around. nic...
Naja Andre Lulu wird Dir gesagt haben... oh wait, speaking German wouldn't be nice. Andre, Lulu told me if I'd buy it it would be three to five days to arrive. They have printers in Germany as it seems. So most likely you will get it before your mündliche Prüfung. Too bad, eh? ;-)

Don't fret. On Twitter, iTunes called him "Whil" yesterday. As long as you don't make THAT mistake...
In which Memories of the Future Volume One is released
I am beyond excited to announce the release of my newest book, Memories of the Future, Volume One. I worked harder on this book than anything since Just a Geek, and it wouldn't have been possible without a bunch of people, who I thank in the book, but wanted to thank here, as well: Andrew Hacka...
I second that about "Stanza" on the iPhone. The Futura headings are really scrambling and the page numbers are within the text. I could read it simply as a PDF but then I can't come back later because, you know, the iPhone PDF reader doesn't remember pages you last visited.
Another question: what do those numbers at the beginning of each chapter mean? I don't understand them at all. Are they a puzzle of some sort?

Since I'm mentioned in the book ("... commenters on TVSquad") I'm buying this right friggin now. Thanks for the PDF Version, I'll read this on my iPhone.
Man I could hug you so much. "Imperative" is the understatement of the year. I jumped up and down in glee every time you posted a new article on TVS and couldn't stand it when your show got canceled. I mean your column. I mean whatever.
Please don't make this into an Audiobook. It'll delay the next volume. Do the "Memories of the Futurecast" and then compile those into collections when you did one for every episode of each volume and add them as an extra for free or for a buck fifty or whatever but please don't make this into a complete audiobook it will delay things so much. I bought "Just A Geek" in audiobook form and considering you put so much effort into that to now have it pirated on the net - please get the other reviews out first. I want more stories first. Maybe do it once you're done with Season One.

Great, I waited until you set a date to listen to the Futurecasts and now I'm feeling like an addict who was sure to get his fix tomorrow. Those are the kind of shivers down my spine I didn't ask for! Dammit Wesley! ;-)
not exactly time enough at last
I'm heading out to Tucson at the end of the week for a con my friend is running called RinCon. It sounds very similar to the laid back gaming cons I cut my geek teeth on when I was a teenager, and I'm really looking forward to it. I plan to play in as many games as I can during the weekend, and ...
