great reaction. as is the reactions of some of the people in the background, partially the lady on your left.
This is a real thing that happened.
I'm still processing the whole thing, through a mind that was recently completely blown, but I have to show you a picture, Internet: Anne gave me a surprise party for my 40th birthday. She spent a year planning it, and gathered 165 of my friends -- from around the world -- into one room to cel...
i misunderstood what this game was about in the beginning. i thought the role playing was just one part of it, that it was a board game too. *facepalm* that what i get for not paying attention.
crazy ending to the story. although that kind of game is still not my thing, it was interesting to watch it play out.
The conclusion of Tabletop's Fiasco
Part one of Saturday Night 78 ended with quite a cliffhanger... ...so here's part two! If you're intrigued by Fiasco, I highly encourage you to get a couple of friends together and play it at your next game night. And if you want to give the Saturday Night 78 playset a go, you can download it...
this game seems really....i guess the word i'm looking for is involved. i like games where you just get in & play (after reading the rules & setting up of course), but i can see the appeal for people who like the story/role playing part.
The newest #Tabletop is a real #Fiasco!
The newest episode of Tabletop is Fiasco, my absolute favorite storytelling RPG of all time. Fiasco is "a game about ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it wil...
very cool.
in which I am an indirect contributor to Highlights for Children
In february, I wrote about the time that Anne and I discussed Highlights for Children at great length: "You know what I always hated about Highlights?" Anne said, "some idiot kid had always circled the hidden pictures." "Seriously!" I said, "fuck that kid, man. That kid's a dick." "And what kin...
i wonder if you can use some kind of jello in that?
Make your own Zombie Dice Brain Counters
One of the most frequently asked questions about Tabletop is: "How do I get those awesome brains you used as counters in Zombie Dice?" They were made by our AMAZING art director and prop master, Nick, (who made the show look incredible, and still came in under his budget) out of some kind of fo...
this games seems like an addams family kind of thing. interesting game, but kind of odd.
Amber Benson, Meghan Camarena, and Michelle Boyd join me for GLOOM on #Tabletop
This week's new episode of Tabletop is online for your happy funtime enjoyment: If the embed isn't working, or you want to see this in glorious SUPER MEGA HD, I've got you covered, because I love you. A few notes: * We have no control over the ads that run during Tabletop, so it's likely that y...
cool. haven't seen a gag reel in a while.
Tabletop's Castle Panic Gag Reel
This whole thing makes me laugh a whole lot. Thanks for watching! Hope you get to play some games with your friends this weekend, because that's what I'm doing on Saturday. Yaay!
i keep dreaming about high school, even though i've been out for more than a dog's age, (fairly common, i understand)
either;
1. i'm late for class
2. i can't find my locker
3. can't remember my locker combo
4. can't find my class
5. i have realized that i haven't been going to that class for some reason
6. all of the above
Dream casts a human shadow, when it occurs to him to do so.
Last night, while I slept, I found myself standing on the set of Next Generation. I was in my red ensign's uniform, and LeVar was in Geordi's gold engineering uniform. We were in Geordi's quarters, and the entire crew was waiting to roll the cameras on an important scene. But I had no idea why I...
that's sure to get a lot of use.
i'm enjoying watching table top & seeing games that i've never heard of. or in the case of the settlers of catan, a game that i heard of, but never saw "in action." does anyone know if more of these games are being sold because of table top?
this is bullshit
Because I have a feeling at least one person reading this blog will want to use this image at some point in the future, to express this sentiment. An uncomfortably long hug to Tumblr-er Alive Like Me for making this.
looks like a great place to get inspired.
I don't want to go on the cart
I'm not quite dead! I just took a vacation that looked something like this: Click to embiggen at Imgur, and to see a few other pictures from our trip. It was kind of a big deal for us, because it's the first non-working, non-kid-having vacation Anne and I have taken since we were dating almo...
tried origami at anime-expo in 2009. the first thing was a t-rex. it kicked our asses. the second thing was a kimono. it kicked as well, but not as hard. we left right after.
Eureka: Of Mites and Men
In every rehearsal, when Parrish stands up to triumphantly announce that he's completed his 100 cranes, I did it in my best* Homer Simpson voice, like when he tries to fake out Apu with the lottery scratcher: "WOOO HOOO! ONE HUNDRED CRANES, BABY!" This episode was more fun to film than I thought...
that has turned out to be a good project for you two. plus you have something to drink together when it's done.
in which my son and i bottle our beer
I walked down the hallway toward the guest room, and started talking before I got to the door. "Hey, I just looked at my calendar, and I miscalculated when we should bottle our beer." I stepped off the wood floor of the hallway and onto the soft carpet we just had installed. I involuntarily squi...
happy belated birthday!
i'm often fuzzy on how old i am these days. i know i'm younger than you, not by much though.
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
very scary. i was thinking how, in a situation like that, one of the mob could do something more dangerous than shoving a pen and something to sign in the person's face.
if you cut me, i will bleed
Pretty much all of Comicon was awesome. However, there was one thing that was decidedly not awesome, and though I had initially decided not to talk about it in public, it's bothered me since it happened, so I wrote about it on G+ earlier today. I'm cross posting it here, though, because it's imp...
*sigh* sorry for all the typos in that.

nice story.
at last year's dragon*con by brother and i saw aver brooks waiting for an elevator. didn't approach or say anything, just walked by and exchanged a "that's so cool!" look with my brother.

that's a good one. as is back to the future IMHO.
Is this something you can share with the rest of us Amazing Larry?!
Anne went to bed before I was tired last night. Being a good husband who doesn't want to get The Wrath, I opted to head into my office on the other side of the house to watch a little TV before I went to sleep, instead of sitting in our bed and watching TV there. (Yes, we live in a house that is...
BTW have you ever seen the king of kong: a fistful of quarters? it's a documentary mostly about the highest scoring donkey kong game but includes a part about a arcade video game high score competition.
the value of a quarter
Last week, I took my car to one of those car washes at the gas station. When I was waiting to pull in, I saw that for the low low price of one dollar more, I could upgrade my wash options from four useless things to seven useless things. Obviously, I reached into my change box (some of you may k...
i was never all that much into video games. but the bus station (long since torn down) had a pinball game that my little brother (we were about 7 & 4) would each use a paddle button and rack-up the points while waiting for the bus with our mom. a few times we drew a small crowd because no one could believe two little kids were doing such a thing. true story.

Now if we could only manage to find a way to make it work for the rest of us who deal with this shit from UPS/Fedex all the time. We're at their mercy, and they know it.
i agree.
UPS shipping fail - updated (see end of post)
I shipped two boxes of books to Phoenix on Wednesday, to arrive here by 1030 this morning. I paid extra for this, like you do. As 11am rolled around and my books still weren't here, I got a little nervous, so I checked online to see where my packages were. It turns out UPS fucked up and "incorre...
i thought it was the cleaning crew.
raptors
This is in the Electric office here in Los Angeles. I took this picture when I joined John Rogers and Beth Riesgraf there last year for our live chat after The Ho Ho Ho Job aired.
if your title is a challenge to fan fic writers to write TNG porn, (i don't know much about fan fic) but i think they do that already.
Your move, Fan Fiction Writers
This is Safe for Work. As Chris Hardwick says, I think I'm going to buy this, and skip the naughty bits so I can see the story. (There are a bunch of NSFW behind the scenes pictures from actress April O'Neil -- who is a gigantic geek, apparently -- right here.)
if you're reluctant to write fan fiction, you could always change the names and make it an original story.
here i dreamt i was an architect
My brain desperately wants to write some stories, so I've been digging through the pile of Ideas That Didn't Quite Make It to see if anything in there inspires me, or is at least worth dusting off and poking with a sharp stick. So far, two stories look promising, though one of them needs a fairl...
my school library had a subscription. i can't recall if the one in town did.
and yes, i hated the little snot who circled the hidden pictures & the one who drew mustaches goofus and gallant. which was probably the same kid.
in which Highlights for Children is discussed at great length
Last night, on the way home from dinner, I asked Anne, "Do you remember Highlights for Children?" "Of course I do," she said, "I remember how I hated going to the doctor when I was a kid, until I started reading Highlights in the waiting room." "Turn right at this intersection," I said, "and Tra...
i remember watching that live on tv (we had a snow day) and the shock that i felt. not long after that (when they were debating continuing the shuttle program) my mom found a phone number to order some free stuff from NASA (recreated mission patches & stuff) and the guy she talked to asked if they should continue. she said after a period mourning and investigation to go on with the program.
i also recall a couple of years later watching the discovery launch and barely breathing, praying that nothing would go wrong.
from the vault: some of us are looking at stars
This was originally written in May of last year, just after I watched the space shuttle Atlantis blast off into orbit. On the anniversary of the Challenger disaster, I thought it was worth reprinting: On January 28, 1986, I was home from school with the flu. I remember that, no matter what I di...
