On January 12, 2010, tragedy struck the country of Haiti in the form of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The articles and pictures of the destruction look as if they are something straight from the Armageddon. The dead lie everywhere and the living have a look of shell-shock and desperation;crying out in pain, hunger, and fear. The already large number of orphans in this country is expected to swell to a number greater than 2 million after this disaster. This year has been hard on so very many people. The unemployment rate has soared to unbelievable heights, families have lost their homes all over the country due to foreclosure, and the financial sense of security that so many of us have had for many years has become unsteady if not crashing down upon our heads. Toddlers are such amazing little people. One minute you are sharing a sticky meal of PB&J sandwiches and the next you are in a hurried search through the park for fairies!! Miss R. was so much fun on this beautiful day and of course, as you can see, we had the chance to have all of the above mentioned adventures!! Today I was lucky enough to spend some time with some really cool kindergartners while they created their "pumpkin faces". I saw lots & lots of smiles and even more glue, markers, & scraps of construction paper flying about!! I could honestly do nothing but laugh when a few of the kids told me that their pumpkins were missing their front teeth like they were...true to life pumpkin faces!!
