Wil, have you seen or heard of Our Last Best Hope yet? It's a game which recently was on kickstarter and it's in a similar vein to Fiasco, but it's designed to emulate world or civilization ending disaster stories.
The newest #Tabletop is a real #Fiasco!
The newest episode of Tabletop is Fiasco, my absolute favorite storytelling RPG of all time. Fiasco is "a game about ordinary people with powerful ambition and poor impulse control. There will be big dreams and flawed execution. It won’t go well for them, to put it mildly, and in the end it wil...
Wow, rules lawyers actually complained about you guys not playing right? When the guy who made the game was right there playing it? That takes a lot of balls. No brains whatsoever and a real douchebag attitude sure, but amazing balls. Personally, this was my favorite episode of Tabletop so far because it's the one game (besides Zombie Dice) which I knew backwards and forwards and play regularly.
In which we play Munchkin on Tabletop with Steve Jackson
If you've been reading my blog for a few years, you may remember when I played Munchkin with my kids in 2008: I'm going to speak in geek to people who have played Munchkin: Neither of the kids would help me, and I kept getting the Truly Obnoxious Curse, so I was having a hard time gaining level...
Sandman Slim is indeed considerably awesome, I agree. Hopefully you mentioning it will get more people to read it which will mean more people I can talk to about it. My plan is working perfectly...
each sensation makes a note in my symphony
The alarm went off at 7 this morning. Though I was asleep around 11 last night, the jolt of misery that shot through my body as I reached over to turn it off confirmed -- again -- that I am not a Morning Person. I slowly opened my eyes, and saw that Anne had already gotten out of bed. In her pla...
Bugger, I was hoping for another GenCon appearance since I get to go there this year.
a few programming and personal appearance notes
If everything goes according to plan, I should release Hunter later today. It's 2500 words, about the length of what you'd read in a magazine, I think, and I'm pricing it at 99 cents, for people who want to buy it. I'll eventually put it here or wil wheaton books for free, for those of you who a...
NaNoWriMo is simultaneously the best and the most terrifying thing as a writer. Can't stop to second-guess yourself, just have to write and keep writing. I love it and hope I can turn this year's effort into a published work.
precious and fragile things
I'm sitting in my apartment in Vancouver, finishing my coffee and oatmeal. My iPod is shuffling through a massive 80s alternative playlist I made before I came up here, so I've been accompanied by Elvis Costello, The Smiths, Souxie, Depeche Mode, The Jam, and Bauhaus while I start my day. I'm no...
Like others have pointed out, you're only human Wil. And after a busy weekend at PAX, then a dose of the PAX pox, it's easy to see why your temper may have been shorter than usual. Everybody loses their shit at some point for no good reason. You've sucked it up and apologized and that's all that anybody can and should reasonably expect from you. I personally don't think you were completely unwarranted in being upset, but sometimes even a justified angry reaction is not the best thing to do.
in which wil goes HULK SMASH
Last night, I was supposed to perform in the Thrilling Adventure Hour at Largo with a bunch of my friends, and a bunch of people who I really admire. Unfortunately, the sinus infection I was fighting all week had other plans, so I stayed home and rested on the couch with a screening of Repo Man....
I guessed last week (at that horrible cliffhanger) that good old Aeofel was not long for this world, but I'd hoped that it'd be pulled off anyway. Someone on the Wizards boards said it best that this was like the Empire Strikes Back of the D&D podcasts. Aeofel is dead, Binwin doesn't get his vengeance on the Ambershards, and Acquisitions Incorporated has only narrowly avoided total destruction and complete failure. Now we need a rousing return (sans small furry bipeds)in the next podcast to claim victory and vengeance.
I'm saying this for the last time: HIS. NAME. IS. AEOFEL!
I've been pointing out new episodes of the D&D/Penny Arcade/PvP/Me podcast on Twitter, but since the third series draws to a close today, I thought I'd catch up, and then share some thoughts on the final episode. My last post took us up to episode three, so... Episode Four: In this episode, the...
Oh man. I wish you'd done this at PAX. I'd have been there in a heartbeat. Tuscon is a bit far to drive out too. :/
Wil Wheaton's 2009 Dwarven Dungeon Delve of Doom! Benefitting the Child's Play Charity
I'm about to head out to RinCon, and before I left, I wanted to make sure I let everyone attending know that I'm doing what I think will be a pretty awesome fundraiser for Child's Play while I'm there. First, some history: Way back in the olden days, when 8 bits were enough to blow your mind on ...
I've been enjoying the hell out of listening to these. Just yesterday, my first day back at work after PAX, I listened to all three currently available series 3 podcasts and considered putting the series 2 stuff on my mp3 player. A nice thing about them is that when my tabletop gaming friends ask me what's so great about things like D&D, I can point out these podcasts as an example of what tabletop gaming can be like.
D&D Penny Arcade Podcast: Series Three
Somehow, I forgot to mention that the third series of D&D podcasts featuring Penny Arcade, Scott Kurtz, and Wil Wheaton (that's me!) has been available for a couple of weeks. Here are links to the episodes that are currently online: Series Three, Episode One It's Fallcrest, midwinter, and sno...
