This was my first PAX, and it was rad. I've been going to SDCC for the past six or seven years, and finally decided to sack up and do both this year. I met and gamed and waited in line with so many fun nerds this weekend! I'm glad I crossed paths with Robert Khoo yesterday so I could thank him in person for such a great con experience.
The Acquisitions Inc. show was fabulous as always, and I was so thrilled that I got to see it live. The addition of Paul and Storm as the bards was amazing and hilarious!
I had heard stories about the all night gaming binges that happen at PAX, and hanging out at the Sheraton after the show closed last night was just as much fun as I hoped it would be.
Now I want to try PAX East.... #addicted
How was your PAX?
I'm on set for Eureka, tethering to the Internets through a mobile hotspot, using my iPad to post with the Typepad app. This is, as they say, less than optimal for blogging. However, I wanted to put a post up for PAX stuff, until I can write a proper post in the next few days. I had a wonderful ...
Thank YOU for putting on such entertaining shows!
Last night at dinner, I told the Jaroness that we were missing the @wilw vs. @paulandstorm show and she got angry. We're just a couple of tenderfoot Orange County nerds, so the big scary city is big and scary, but that got us talking about the great experiences we've had at the two w00tstock 2.x shows we attended (SDCC with ninja Molly show, and Dr. Demento Halloween w/Chris Hardwick as Wil Wheaton).
Even from the audience perspective, it's exactly as you say: overwhelming positivity, inclusiveness, and happy celebration of sharing a few hours with other geeks and nerds enjoying the things that geeks and nerds enjoy. It's an incredible vibe, and the Jaroness and I both found that we left each show with major life-affirming self-esteem boosts.
So again, thank you (and [P] & [S] & Adam Savage, not to mention all the amazing performers and other attendees, and of course Dammit Liz) for consistently delivering the awesome.
in which i am grateful
Los Angeles totally turned out for our show at Largo last night. I think the house was about 80% full, which is incredible for a show on a Tuesday, anywhere, but expecially in Hollywood. We all had a great time, and the new material I did with Paul and Storm seemed to play as well as we hoped it...
I'm a fanboy of anything Brian Bendis writes. His creator-owned stuff like SCARLET is good (vigilante girl in Portland) and I loved his DARK AVENGERS run from awhile back (Osborn taking over Iron Man's role, playing therapist to Sentinel, and Bullseye taking over Hawkeye's job were great).
It's Wednesday, so here's a post about comic books
When I was a kid, I was a DC Universe guy all the way, with rare forays into the Marvel Universe to read a few X-Men books, and the occasional Silver Surfer 100 page spectacular (remember those? I loved those oversized one shots in the 70s and 80s.) I realized last week, though, that the bulk of...

Though I hadn't seen him in over twenty years, I knew I'd miss him forever
I stood in the lobby of the Falcon Theater in Toluca Lake, and looked at Twitter while I waited for the rest of the guys to arrive. The walls were covered with posters from productions like CHiPs: The Musical and It's A Stevie Wonderful Life. Being in a theater during the day, when it's just a b...
I can't speak for others, but I'm a sucker for any stories involving D&D or gaming. Adam Savage's "first kiss" w00tstock story and your story about "the most advanced computer system ever made" are awesome, for example.
w00tstock presents: Wil Wheaton vs. Paul and Storm at Largo
Later this month -- March 29, to be precise -- I will be joining Paul and Storm for a show at Largo, here in Los Angeles. This show will be a sort of concentrated w00tstock, expanding my 20 minute set of one story to about 60 minutes of probably 3 stories, and doing approximately the same for Pa...
I can't believe she didn't go for the coasters!
A weekend of gaming, from Cal & D to Power Grid
Saturday, I got together with Cal, Martin and Steve so we could finish our now-epic one-shot of Cal & D. The plan was to start at 10, because Martin had a family commitment that we all decided (despite his disagreement, which was wrong) that wasn't nearly as important as crawling the dungeon and...
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for another epic SDCC #w00tstock show!
a few programming and personal appearance notes
If everything goes according to plan, I should release Hunter later today. It's 2500 words, about the length of what you'd read in a magazine, I think, and I'm pricing it at 99 cents, for people who want to buy it. I'll eventually put it here or wil wheaton books for free, for those of you who a...
Bahaha, classic. The Jaroness and I were talking last night about how neither of us know anyone's phone numbers anymore. I commented that phone numbers have become like IP addresses, and we'd be lost without the DNS of our contact lists.
technology makes you stupid
It's been over 80 for the last few days, and I'm going up to Portland for the rest of this week to see my sister, so I took advantage of the warm weather and went for a run yesterday afternoon. My brain quickly tuned out and started working on this story I'm about to publish, so my feet went the...
Brian Michael Bendis' work on DARK AVENGERS made me a fan. Bullseye masquerading as "Hawkeye" was just perfect.
ZAP! POW! OOFF! ZOK! BIFF! A post about comics and TPBs.
A couple times a year, I have to go through all the comics and trades in my office and put them into long boxes that live in the attic. When I do this, I always end up pulling out a few trades that I want to read again, so now you know what I've spent most of my discretionary (note that I didn't...
Mind. Blown.
what is this i don't even
Apparently, a challenge was issued on EN World that went something like this: I see your Betty White, your Bea Arthur, and Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan, and I raise you ALL of them playing D&D with Wil Wheaton in the middle of an iconic D&D bar fight, framed in bacon… Even though I haven...
Hey Wil,
I was at Target earlier tonight too. Do those Christmas ornament thingies hanging from the ceiling make you think of Cobra Commander, or is it just me?
now it's just getting silly
The thing is, I don't even like The Smurfs*, but we have a friend who is working on The Smurfs, and we feel compelled to send him as much Smurf-related imagery as possible. If you wanted to caption this one, too, I'm certainly not going to stop you. *Currently, that is. When I was 8, I fuc...
We'll miss you at #w00tstock tomorrow in LA. :( Have fun in Canadaland!
on the finding (and not finding) of evil wil wheaton
We filmed until 330 this morning, and when I finally got home a little after 4am, it was all I could do to convince myself to wash off my makeup and go to sleep. I woke up at 1230 this afternoon in the same position I fell asleep, and I probably could have easily slept another 3 hours or more. W...
Ooo, thanks for the reply. My world has righted itself!
epic wil ... ll ... ll
That's me, Will Hindmarch, and Will Schoonover, making the most epic Wil ... ll ... ll gang sign, ever. I loved that, because I only have one L in my name, I had a hand to make the W. (I don't remember who owns the hand making the I, but I'm pretty sure it's not someone called Wil(l).) (Photo...
You didn't let Dammit_Liz get a copy of Munchkin? But she hand-delivered BEER to you and others ONSTAGE! The fragment you've given us of that story sounds uncharacteristically selfish. What happen !!

Thank you & everyone else involved with making this show happen. It was the highlight of the Con for me and my girlfriend, and we loved every minute of it. I'm bummed that Adam wasn't around for the post-show signing, because I'd love to get his autograph in my D&D Divine Power "yearbook" with all the others!
I feel like a douche for not having anything more interesting to say than, "Thanks for the show," both in person and in these comments.
Dejected arr.
Free Molly.
memories of w00tstock 2.4
I walked across two sets of train tracks, through a tangle of nerds and normals, and navigated my way up Fourth Street toward the theater. My Bag of Holding, slung diagonally across my body, rested comfortably against my side. Inside, my costume changes (read: Nerdy T-shirts) and script (read: H...
Hmm. I wonder if I can close the italics tag here...
It looks like Hdibner's italics runneth over!
in place of a title, imagine the sound of a howling wolf
I'm going to be traveling like crazy for the next several weeks, so last week Anne and I took a couple days off to have a quick two day getaway. We went out to this hotel in the desert that we like, and spent about 36 hours sitting by the pool, doing a whole lot of nothing. It was glorious. The ...
Fuck.
Yes.
never forget your roots
While walking through Comicon three or four years ago, I stopped to look at one of those booths that's filled with a hundred different T-shirts. Somewhere among the various superhero crests and clever nerd phrases and obscure sci-fi homages, I saw a fairly simple design: an Atari joystick, sitti...
Prove To Everyone was a douche. He could've used a heaping helping of Wheaton's Law.
I wanted to confess that I stole your "something got in my eye" joke over the weekend after I saw Toy Story 3. http://twitter.com/jaron95/status/16599184067
I feel extra guilty about it because @AMChelps saw my tweet and apologized to me. http://twitter.com/AMCHelps/status/16727163879
Hope to see you at w00tstock 2.4!
From the Vault: unpublished and unfinished scene from a grocery store
I'm working on repairing and restoring WWdN (don't get too excited or update your bookmarks just yet, my blog will live here no matter what), and while I was cleaning up duplicate blog entries, I came across several unpublished drafts of posts that I decided were too personal to publish, too unf...
Yessssssssss. Finally, this question I've been dying to ask is answered.
in which another secret is revealed...
Spoiler alert: If this interests you, you really want to listen to Radio Free Burrito Episode 28.
This was one of my favorite Burritos so far. I loved every second of the Warhammer and D&D talk. I was just over at the Fantasy Flight website & caught this preview article for their upcoming 40k RPG, Deathwatch, that you might dig: http://bit.ly/c7lhoU (I bit.ly'd the link due to a question mark in the article's URL.)
Radio Free Burrito: Episode Twenty-Four
Holy Crap, it's time for a new episode of Radio Free Burrito! It's one of those shows where I talked for an hour, and feel like I didn't say anything at all. Also, I am aware that the tags are screwed up and the feed doesn't validate, so unless you're grabbing RFB from iTunes or getting it direc...
Speaking of BBSes, Wil, have you heard the buzz about the Portal update? This should be right up your alley:
"A few hours ago, Portal for the PC was updated, with the following as the only patch note:
"'Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations'
"In addition, a new achievement has appeared called 'Transmission Received', with no explanation of what it is or how to acquire it. The folks over at Shacknews did some digging, and it appears that the patch added a whole bunch of new sound files to the game, all of which are just Morse Code. There's 17 minutes of new audio in all, and the sound clips seem to be triggered by doing various things to the radio in Chell's pod at the very beginning of the game.
"It gets even more awesome, though. Some people on the Valve forums ran the audio files through an SSTV program, and got some REALLY interesting results.
"I haven't checked it yet this morning, but the images generated via SSTV contained characters that formed an MD5 hash. That hash converts to a Washington phone number, that has been confirmed to be a BBS that, when dialed into, displays a screen referencing Aperture Science."

The 8-bit Bang Theory
My friend Rich, who writes and draws Diesel Sweeties, occasionally gives me wonderful gifts, like that awesome 8-bit drawing of me in the infamous clown sweater that sits on what would be my blog's masthead, if blogs had mastheads. When I got home from working on The Big Bang Theory yesterday, t...

In which Wil discovers that he has Bioshock 2 Elbow.
My arms hurt so much today, I can hardly lift a cup of coffee, and I feel quite silly. This is how it happened... I played ice hockey all through high school and into my early 20s. I loved being a goalie, and after going to lots of Kings games with Nolan in January, I decided that I was going to...
I'd have gone with the classic, "Aeofel... and he couldn't get up!"
I herd u liek memes so we put a meme in ur meme so u could laugh while you laugh.
CSI: D&D
This is a little bit of gallows humor that I whipped up and sent to Scott Kurtz and my friends at Penny Arcade when we all knew that Aeofel was dead, but couldn't tell anyone else in the world. It seems pretty stupid and clunky now, but at the time, it was as hilarious as it was cathartic to me...
Nooooooo. Why does this have to be in AZ? This is an awesome idea, and I totally want to do it. Please say you'll do this in SoCal too!
Wil Wheaton's 2009 Dwarven Dungeon Delve of Doom! Benefitting the Child's Play Charity
I'm about to head out to RinCon, and before I left, I wanted to make sure I let everyone attending know that I'm doing what I think will be a pretty awesome fundraiser for Child's Play while I'm there. First, some history: Way back in the olden days, when 8 bits were enough to blow your mind on ...
Awwwww, I want to hear that! Scott's Binwin has kicked ass in these first 3 episodes, and your "Dwarven pound-me-in-the-ass prison" line had me rofling!
D&D Penny Arcade Podcast: Series Three
Somehow, I forgot to mention that the third series of D&D podcasts featuring Penny Arcade, Scott Kurtz, and Wil Wheaton (that's me!) has been available for a couple of weeks. Here are links to the episodes that are currently online: Series Three, Episode One It's Fallcrest, midwinter, and sno...
