Agreed with Hekate180. Nice and relaxing. Perfect nostalgia music.
"Just once… let me… look on you with my own eyes”
at long last, a new version of star wars i can get excited about
Everything about this is just beautiful. I highly recommend watching it full screen, but for the lazy or whatever, here's an embed: (via Geekosystem)
I tried.
I tried and tried but no amount of downloaded ROMs ever could recapture what had passed. It just feels hollow on a shiny CRT/LCD screen with a modern multi-button controller in your hand. It can be fun, but make no mistake, it's not the same.
This is the reason I go to garage sales and buy up old consoles and games on the cheap over weekends during the summer. I take them home, clean them up and add them to the collection. I Drag them out everyone once and a while and play with my boys. Preferably on an old mono TV I keep in the basement for such occasions.
It's the closest I've been able to get to 1982 thus far.
the fountain of youth
I spend a lot of time remembering and writing about the video games I played while growing up, mostly because it's the closest I can come to actually playing them, until the magical day arrives when I have an entire room in my house dedicated to housing a classic arcade and console collection. I...
I'm a major 40k geek since about '88. Love the universe, the lore, the hobby, just about everything. Except for GW's greed, that can suck a lead miniature.
I'm quite surprised you didn't mention Dark Heresy as something you'd like to check out in the PnP RPG arena. I've considered it, but the core book is pretty expensive. Perhaps one day.
A few geeky games that are worth setting aside some Geek Time to play
I've discovered that, unless I specifically set aside Geek Time for me, Wil Wheaton, I end up doing nothing but work. This isn't entirely bad, because most of the work I do is geek-related, but I eventually run out of HP, and I have to recharge. by doing some private geeky thing, like reading co...
Oh god, Episode 8.
Seriously. Epic. I laughed out loud so many times.
Smiling widely as I write this.
"Choke on your t-shirts Scott Kurtz."
Classic.
I'm saying this for the last time: HIS. NAME. IS. AEOFEL!
I've been pointing out new episodes of the D&D/Penny Arcade/PvP/Me podcast on Twitter, but since the third series draws to a close today, I thought I'd catch up, and then share some thoughts on the final episode. My last post took us up to episode three, so... Episode Four: In this episode, the...
My thought on Munchkin polarization. This assumes you know the definition of the classic PnP Munchkin.
If you one of the many Munchkins that the game's name was inspired by and must win or be the most powerful person at the table, I doubt you will like the game.
If you play PnP games to have fun and enjoy adventuring with your friends, you just might like Muchkin for what it is. A silly little game about screwing the other guy as much as it is (or isn't) about winning.
I love it personally.
a spiffy rules variant for munchkin
I'm making myself a little crazy trying to write a column about gaming, gamers, gaming conventions, and why they all add up to mean so much to me. It's not that I can't find the words but – well, maybe it is that I can't find the words. Or, more accurately, I can't find enough words, because I c...
Holy shit! Big-time upper-case Props on the Fruit Fucker tshirt making it's way to prime-time. Freaking well done man.
Mike and Jerry have to be stoked about that.
Hey look! It's the promo for my episode of The Big Bang Theory!
Holy. Carp. Wil's Mind = BLOWN. This is the coolest thing I've seen all day. I can't believe that CBS chose to make the promo for next week's episode all about me! It's a huge honor, because it means someone at CBS thinks I'm worth audience. I've also heard from two friends who have seen sc...
