I haven't gotten a chance to download it and play it myself (so can't vouch for it personally) but I've been very interested in this Call of Cthulhu RPG for iOS: http://redwaspdesign.wordpress.com/call-of-cthulhu/
It's even based on the Chaosium tabletop CoC ruleset.
If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be unfaithful to the spirit of the thing.
Since I started tabletop gaming mumblecough years ago, I've always found storytelling inspiration from the RPGs. From designing my character and developing his back story, to building a world and populating it with allies and adversaries, the games I've played have lived on in my imagination lon...
Come back to Gen Con! I'll teach Space Alert. :)
on the importance of making time to play the games you like with the people you love
In the introduction to my short collection of gaming essays called Games Matter, I wrote: Of all the things that make me a geek, nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming. I am the person I am today because of the games I played and the people I played them with as I ...
You can just do what I did and trick, uh, convince people you know to write for you and make THEM stick to a schedule.
BTW, if you ever want to write a guest post... :)
this post is titled Laika for some reason
When I started my blog almost ten years ago, I made a dedicated effort to write something new every day. I figured that it was good practice for me as a level zero writer, and I also knew that the only way to keep readers engaged was by providing new content all the time. As the years rolled by,...
No PAX East this year? How will I get my pizza?
Hope that GenCon is still a possibility for you this year- seemed like you had a great time last year, and there were a lot of people glad to see you there.
a few programming and personal appearance notes
If everything goes according to plan, I should release Hunter later today. It's 2500 words, about the length of what you'd read in a magazine, I think, and I'm pricing it at 99 cents, for people who want to buy it. I'll eventually put it here or wil wheaton books for free, for those of you who a...
As soon as I finished my first game of Fiasco I was already buzzing with ideas for my own playsets. Plus there are some that appeal to me more than others, so the more there are, the more that'll stand out as "play me!" Will's time travel is one that I'm eager to get to, for instance.
random thoughts from vancouver
I have a late call today, so I have some time to write. Yaaaaay. Here's a few things that have been on my mind in the last, oh, 36 hours or so. So that silly thing Paul and Storm and Adam and I did sort of took off, didn't it? I'm thrilled that so many people found it as entertaining and amusing...
Let me just add then: thanks Kommodo!
Best GenCon ever. It started with Drunken D&D and ended with free pizza. Some good stuff happened inbetween too. :)
i have the heart of a dragon (no, really, i do)
Home from GenCon. Happily exhausted. I killed a dragon with one hit. Now, it's time to sleep for two days.
There's already a few great board games for the iPhone, like Catan, Zooloretto, even Werewolf (aka Mafia.) I agree that hopefully the larger format will spur publishers on to making even more available. I watched a game of Pandemic take place on one of the food court tables last weekend at Pax, and that would be way easier on an iPad.
in which the case for buying an iPad is almost made
When Apple announced the iPad, I was so unimpressed and bored with it, I couldn't even muster a "meh." It seemed to solve a problem that didn't exist, and while I kept waiting for Apple to make the case for it, I don't think they ever did. I mean, if I'm going to spend five hundred fucking dolla...
That was great.
I think you know enough game designers to make Mystic Warlords of Ka'a a reality. I know I was thinking about it as the game was being played :)
The Creepy Candy Coating Corollary
I'm at w00tstock right now, and I haven't even seen the show, but I thought it would be fun to write a post in advance so anyone who watched The Big Bang Theory tonight would have a place to talk about it. If everything goes according to plan, this should post right as the episode is finishing o...
