Birthdays are usually cause for celebration. Mine seems to come at the same time each year (duh!). Ironically, my wedding anniversary (I do realize, post-divorce, I'm supposed to stop counting...) was just two days later. Since these two events come so close together, and since we together have a lovely daughter, and since we're getting along SPLENDIDLY (I say with the deepest gratitude!), it's now with deeper reflection versus angst that I approach these late spring days of celebration. Symbols surround us, don't they? I'm sitting on my deck, sipping on a cup of coffee, outlining the tasks of the... Continue reading

Okay, so it may seem like just a slight change in semantics...but I'm going to try to go with a few very basic affirmations. Every year I tend to (like EVERYONE else) promise myself (and sometimes even others) that I will lose weight, exercise more, eat healthier, etc. I admit these categories did indeed suffer during my dramatic (I don't think I'm exaggerating...) last couple of years. Divorcing a husband of many many years and moving out of a house where we'd lived for almost as many can be dramatic AND traumatic. Even I, a therapist, can and do admit... Continue reading

What a year this has been! I know that statement applies to most of the people I know, not just me. Blame it on 12/21/12 if you like, but I sense this being a season of radical change and hopefully radical transformation for all of us - okay, let's say the whole planet! (I like to "go big" whenever I can get away with it!) So, as we reflect on all the roller coaster riding we may have done throughout 2013, as we screech to a halt, completing the ride, what do we do? Do we get back in line... Continue reading

It's a Saturday night - I have a computer on my lap (okay, I'm already admitting I'm doing something "wrong"...) and I'm half-listening to the inspiring movie "The Blind Side" (don't worry, I've seen it before, so this is a second time - thoroughly concentrated the first time - loved it!). Maybe not a thrilling Saturday night for some, but for me, it's just fine! I re-read the last blog I did - OMG, it was more than a year ago (when I had my last birthday!). In fact, looking back at the archives, I wrote very little in the... Continue reading

I love it - falling into the rabbit hole of the internet. I have the day off (not because it's my birthday, but that's a bonus!) One of the "lazy-ish" things I'm doing today (i.e., in theory not to require a lot of serious thought) is "dumping" email. Okay, so I may be considered an email hoarder. So confessed. And this is indeed a period in my life where I've been doing a lot of clearing, cleansing, etc. Overall. An intriguing thread I found myself following today led me to this amazing video: "One Power" by Daniel Nahmod. POWERful video.... Continue reading

This is going to - perhaps - sound a bit odd....let's see how it turns out. I first was going to comment on the movie "Chimpanzee." I went with a girlfriend to see the movie, just because I love our connections to those amazing primates (any debates about our "relationships" with the apes aside, please). Bizarrely, some of the lessons within that movie may apply to some of the big topics of these last days... We are all living species. From the swimmers to the flyers and crawlers - to all of us two-leggers. Where do chimps fall in those... Continue reading

"A New Year and New You" are pretty self-explanatory. "Near You" refers to our sweet daughter's interpretation of everyone's "Happy New Year" greeting. She translated (transformed?) it into, "Happy near you!" at an early age. Happily, she's managed to bring it forward from age three or four till present time. It still feels just as warm and tingly when we say it to each other. Nice. And I'm someone who likes to get a fresh start! I like the new year/new you concept. (I named my album, “New People for a New World,” so I most definitely believe in the... Continue reading

I could choose to comment about the huge news – huge – that the war of nine years in Iraq is being projected to finally come to an end in the next few months. But, I’ll leave that to all the more politically astute folks to share! Instead, I’m going to comment on a very private celebration… I haven't posted anything much this summer. There’s been a lot going on. However, I do want to share a couple of joys! (After all, "joy" is supposed to be my thing, right?) Last week a couple of significant folks in my world... I really do see life as full of all kinds of assorted riches. Most definitely. Thanks for noticing my noticing! :)
Truly? How fun! Wish I had a movie of my mother and Jack. What a hoot that would be. I most definitely have a mental image...memory. Nice....
As many of us watched special programs today about the terror of September 11, 2001, reflecting on the devastating loss, the sacrifices, and the bravery of countless human beings, I recalled something that didn't seem to get mentioned ten years ago... I - like many of you (hopefully) - are supporters of peace. Consequently, I've been aware of (and even at times participated in) gatherings of folks on special days dedicated to the pursuit of peace. Some of you may remember the saying, "May peace prevail on Earth" that was affirmed on a regular basis by many of us. Well,... Continue reading

Thanks! I may check it out!
Ahh, balance can be a very good thing to aspire to! :)
Just noticed I posted this blog on 1-11-11. Hmmm. And today - 9-11-11. Another hmmm. A perfect day to look for our commonalities as opposed to our differences. One race - the human race.
I agree that greed is at the core of a lot of poor choices...("poor" in my estimation at least!).
Becoming more aware of our own actions and consequences is a beginning....
Sadly, I'll have to get a translater for a couple of those...so, I'll get back to you later (LOL - I at least know that one!).

Whew! I was curious - I'd never tried chocolate potato chips!! Who knows - you might have hit on something! A new alternative to chocolate pretzels! Ahhhh, here's that moderation thing again...
I agree. Truly, I do appreciate our diversity. And we all have our own interpretation and perception of EVERYTHING, don't we!
A daily challenge for me! I'm frustratingly human most of the time....
Amen, brother! :)
Moments of contemplation mixed with moments of "simply" experiencing life - happy or sad, relaxed or anxious, awake or asleep. I choose to make an effort to be as "conscious" as possible (although admittedly not managing 100% every second...). We're all "works in progress," aren't we?
I've been experiencing "moderation" of a sort myself these last few weeks...I haven't been meeting with my 5:30am gal as much as I had. Hopefully, we'll meet again soon.
And keep smiling!! :)
