Good thing they had Wesley flying the ship.
I couldn't believe it, myself, but this is a real picture.
Last night, Anne and I got to go to the Jet Propulsion Labratory to watch the landing of the Mars Curiosity Rover. It was a powerful, emotional, inspiring experience. When I think about how these scientists flew something the size of my car to another planet and landed it almost exactly where th...
Basically, this episode is now my go-to guide for showing people how to play the game. Well done!
In which we play Munchkin on Tabletop with Steve Jackson
If you've been reading my blog for a few years, you may remember when I played Munchkin with my kids in 2008: I'm going to speak in geek to people who have played Munchkin: Neither of the kids would help me, and I kept getting the Truly Obnoxious Curse, so I was having a hard time gaining level...
Just a tremendous experience Doug, thanks so much for putting this on, and for inviting me. Because of a number of chats at this event, and one serendipitous meeting, I may be heading in a whole new direction soon. Transformative!
Day 15: Swimming in the Texas Flood
I should have written this yesterday. But when I got home from Austin, expecting to brace against the last throes of winter, I instead found a forecast for temps in the 70s for the foreseeable future. Then I got an e-mail that the open-air ice rink was closing three weeks early, and the golf c...
A scar, and an awesome story about how they got it.
Things every person should have
Things every person should have: A nemesis. An evil twin. A secret headquarters. An escape hatch. A partner in crime. A secret identity. What else?
We had a great time this year! It was both an awesome GeekDad event (our Geek Parenting panel went great), and a fun family vacation - I was able to bring my wife and boys along as well. Biggest surprise was seeing Felicia Day show up in the signing area, and getting to chat with her (she just popped down from Vancouver unannounced). Also saw Storm, and completely forgot to show him my cover-band shirt I'd done up special ("Penny Arcade is the name of my The Bobs cover band." - a bit obscure, but 80s-90s a capella fans will get it ).
Everyone had a blast at the Acquisitions Inc. show, and having P&S accompany it was a stroke of genius! Otherwise, played some board games, some D&D with the boys, and set out minds on saving up for a Geek Chic table. Can't wait for next year!
How was your PAX?
I'm on set for Eureka, tethering to the Internets through a mobile hotspot, using my iPad to post with the Typepad app. This is, as they say, less than optimal for blogging. However, I wanted to put a post up for PAX stuff, until I can write a proper post in the next few days. I had a wonderful ...
I'm so tickled I actually know (and by know, I mean have either had ongoing Twitter conversations with, or actually podcasted and emailed with) two of the winners! Congrats to @stepto, whom I only missed meeting at PAX because there was so much cool to do there. And congrats to Friend of GeekDad John Anealio!

BEHOLD Clash of the Geeks - The Wheaton / Scalzi Fan Fiction Chapbook
A long time ago, on an Internet far, far away, John Scalzi's brain unleashed the most epic and awesome and WTF image ever known in the history of all the tribes: The Unicorn Pegasus Kitten. But a Unicorn Pegasus Kitten alone wasn't enough, and so I was placed astride it, wearing the Infamous Clo...
Sounds fair and reasonable Wil. Hope I get a chance to say "hi" while I'm there.
GeekDad panel at 11:00 on Saturday, Wolfman Theater! W00t!
~Ken (who is getting a bit nervous about hosting a panel at his first PAX)
My 2010 PAX Prime Schedule
When I was at GenCon last month, I signed autographs and stuff for close to six hours a day. I got to meet a lot of people (and took home about ten pounds of dice!) but I hardly got to see any of the con, and I got to play a grand total of three games while I was there. I’ve been working my ass ...
Awesometastic, sir! I will email you for transporter coordinates...
Computerwelt
I've been reading a lot more than usual (which is saying something, because I really like to read) since I got home from Eureka. It wasn't until yesterday afternoon that I realized why I've wanted to do little more than work my way through the gigantic pile of Books I Want To Read* for the last ...
Hey Wil, how tall is that pile? Because I have a book to send you if/when you have the time. Search "Geek Dad" on Amazon.

Can't wait to see what you're doing on Monday night at W00tstock! I'm hoping there'll be Rockband'
Everybody walk the dinosaur. Well, except for you. You're not working out.
I have no idea what the title of this post has to do with the content of this post. In fact, I think there's no relation at all, other than the fact that I wrote them both. But when your brain compels you to quote Was (not Was), it's best to just do what it says, and slip in a Simpsons reference...
