"Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit." - E. E. Cummings Hello Face2Face with Success readers. I hope you are having an excellent day. Let's talk spontaneity! As a writer, one keeps a close eye on performance. I continue to be very appreciative of how an article I wrote almost 5 years ago is still widely read today. I remember very clearly the day this article was written and published on DUNIA Magazine. It was on a Saturday morning in October of 2010. Less than 2 hours... Continue reading

Ever so often, one reads a piece of writing that stikes a chord. Here is one I read on Facebook this morning posted by a sister Belle Sonkey that I thought to share with you. It speaks to the importance of true friendships. In the qualities of an Elizabeth one can understand why finding a true friend could be quite rare, yet precious. I hope you enjoy reading it as well. " Who is my Elizabeth? When Mary, was given the biggest news of her life, she had no husband to confide in. Her first instinct after her visit from... Continue reading

It's Valentine's Day! Happy lovers' day to you and yours. I was reflecting on the significance of this day. It dawned on me that actually everyday should be Valentine's Day, don't you think? --- days when we are loved, appreciated and celebrated. Also importantly, when we challenge ourselves to give love, respect and to honor the dignity of others. What makes a person deserving of our love? Simply because they are a child of God. I am learning that every body we come across deserves love - whether in our minds, they have earned it or not. In the home... Continue reading

January 31, 2015 news headlines: 'Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of late singer Whitney Houston, was found unconscious in her bathtub'. Another one: 'Whitney Houston's daughter in medically-induced coma'. Sad headlines indeed. Surprising? Many, including myself would admit, "not so much". A Mother's Love June 2001: Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston, Bobbi Kristina This month - February - 3 years ago, 48 year old Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub. Official causes of death: cocaine overdose, drowning, coronary artery disease. Fast forward 2015, similar headlines about daughter Bobbi Kristina, now 21. We women are strongly connected to... Happy MLK day. As we honor Dr King today, I am reflecting on these words of his: "He who is devoid of the power to forgive, is devoid of the power to love." As leaders we are called to serve; service requires love, sacrifice & dedication. How high do you rank in your ability to tolerate & accommodate others' shortcomings - whether clients, business associates, team members or even family members? Dr Martin Luther King was great, not because he was flawless, but because of his ability to love self-lessly. He gave his all in serving his people. A Baptist... Continue reading

"If you're not listening, you're not leading. Instead, you are commanding and dictating --- it doesn't often work" Leadership in this day and time is not about an individual's dreams, or their personal plans and goals; it is about the successful implementation of an idea. And ideas are successfully implemented through people, by the effort of teams. Hence a successful leader understands the importance of teamwork. We build teams not by ordering people around, telling them what to do and forcing our expectations down their throats, but by inviting them to work with us, always being respectful of their opinions.... "Women cannot complain about men anymore until they start getting better taste in them." - Bill Maher Many of our women (mothers, sisters, daughters) are the true heroes in today's society. Growing up in a culture where women hardly ever express what they're feeling --- & when they do, no one really cares --- but then she keeps moving regardless, it is indeed a privilege to share their stories with the world through my interviews, writings and the work we do at Women Are Core. Isn't it true that happy women build healthy homes? While abused, oppressed & neglected women... Continue reading

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." - Psalm 37:4 Good morning Face2Face family and welcome to our first post of 2015. Like you, I am poised for great achievements this year. 2015 shall indeed be "a year of triumph" as my sister in Cameroon so aptly put during our New Year's day chat. I sincerely wish you and yours all that your heart desires and much more. May all the hard work and years of focus continue to pay off as we walk in purpose. This morning, I would like us... "You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you." - Frederick Buechner HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Can you believe 2015 is almost here? As we step into the new year, I am thinking about relationships - those we have created and nurtured over the years and those we have recently formed. Relationships are the basis of success - who we know, those we come across... Continue reading

"The only reason why we think we CAN'T is because our minds have not been programmed to think we CAN" Success is about progress. Progress is not always easy to accomplish. Progress means moving forward, and not falling backward. Sometimes progress simply means standing firm, refusing to be pushed back by powerful wind gusts created by obstacles. Progress means refusing to quit and doing whatever it takes to accomplish set goals. Progress means not allowing others to talk us out of fulfilling our destiny. Progress may not always be manifested by visible results, but is reflected in our self-growth as... Continue reading

"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going." - Brian Tracy Good morning distinguished ladies and gentlemen. We're counting down to the end of 2014! I have this feeling that there is still much to be accomplished before the year ends. Do you feel the same? I believe 2015 will be tremendous in many ways. Today's thoughts are on allowing ourselves to go through the processes of life. By this I mean, to embrace the flow. I have found that when we do, every second of every day becomes meaningful because we... Continue reading

“Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it.” - Tori Amos Some months ago, we noticed a leak at home. The leak had not been in plain sight, so by the time we noticed, that area of the house had suffered some serious water damage - water was seaping out of surrounding floors and walls. The gentleman who handles our maintainance work was out of town on a family emergency, so hubby went out to the store and got some DIY sealants and other materials to fix the leak... Continue reading

“A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.” - Unknown Beaches of Mozambique shared by DUNIA Mag on Instagram It was raining heavily this morning in Atlanta as the day began with getting the kids ready for school; then reading up on the latest news, checking emails and getting to work for the magazine. I began to think of all the effort that goes into the work we consistently do as parents and leaders --- whether it's taking care of family, preparing lesson plans, setting up conference calls and meetings, updating... "Operating from a place of love enables us to be better leaders, spouses, parents, business associates, co-workers and world citizens" Good morning Face2Face family! It's Sunday again. I hope your weekend is restful and fun. I woke up this morning, my heart filled with the determination to spread love. Good morning world. Let's remember to spread some love — Lema Abeng-Nsah (@LemaNsah) December 14, 2014 Of what good is having money in the bank while lacking happiness in our lives? I have realized that whenever we show love, react in love, we ourselves feel love. Love creates IN us peace,... Continue reading

Random moments at home What are you grateful for? Have you paused lately to count those blessings? For me, there is lots to be thankful for when I take stock of how far God has brought me. Being a mom is and always will be the greatest and most precious achievement of my life. Every moment is cherished, every day a blessing. Like most hardworking women today, I am proud to be mommy-first. One of the perks of coming from a large family is that one has siblings 'everywhere'. Yesterday, my daughter received a package from my sister-in-law in Finland.... Continue reading

The bible is full of promises that God has made to His children. When we stand on these promises, believing that what He says in His Word shall come to pass for us, we give Him permission to act in our lives. This morning I was reflecting on the following passage in Deuteronomy 32:10-12 and I'm glad to share it with you. 10 In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye 11 like an eagle that stirs up its... Continue reading

Well, I am happy to be back and would love to share some thoughts on the workings of our minds. Thank you in... Continue reading

"The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance." - Luke 8:14-15 What does the plant in above photo signify? - new beginnings, humble beginnings, something to look forward to? The above photo of my dad (who passed on in 2003) sits on my desk - a special source of encouragement and inspiration and a constant reminder of whose blood flows in my veins. Personal Thoughts It's been heartbreaking to say the least ... shocking that a man would punch and knock a woman out cold in an elevator ... then act like it was normal. That no one would come to her rescue when the elevator stops, but another woman. That he would try to blame her and she would try to blame herself for the abuse. But what we see playing out on TV is happening too many times in America and across the world today. Women being beaten, raped, and violated by men, often men who are closest to them. To... "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." - John 14:27 The grind of daily life can sometimes take its toll, however, the dawn of a new day signals new possibilities. For those who're self-employed, there are some days when one seems to have ran out of options, when solutions to business hiccups are anything but forthcoming; for employees, how about those days when you'd like to ignore the alarm clock and not go to work... It's been a while. DUNIA print magazine picks up by welcoming one of Africa's shinning stars to its cover. She is Malian born musician, song writer, humanitarian Rokia Traore. Ms Traore spoke with me today from Bamako, the capital city of Mali - a country she loves deeply and is happy to help rebuild. We had an insightful conversation on a variety of topics. Rokia was upfront and very easy to talk to. We explored the future of Africa, culture, success and the music industry. I found Rokia to be quite remarkable for various reasons ... which you will read... Continue reading

The Navigation system will get you there. Pretty much gone are the days when we pulled up directions, printed them on paper before heading out for an appointment. In this day of technology, the smart phone has become the guide. We type in an address, hit the road and trust our phones' navigation systems to get us there. Some of the most valuable life lessons can be learned in unlikely ways. I believe the navigation system has lots to teach us about life and success. Exciting. We human beings generally don't like dealing with the unknown. If you've never been... Continue reading

Son on the left Hello Friends, I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I need help figuring something out. If you're a parent like me, you probably agree that kids do ask some unlikely questions sometimes. My 9 year old son is bright and has a mind that works pretty fast for a kid his age. He likes to explore things, break them up and put them back together. He is smart and I believe he enjoys challenging the status quo as far as thinking patterns. In my eyes, he's a little genuis ... well you know how that... Continue reading
