What a great day! K.E.L.P. kids were so fortunate to go out on a boat and explore their underwater neighborhood, biology in their backyard! They became little investigators of the reef. Terry had an underwater camera and captured both video and stills. The children took turns with the camera which they loved. They were able to document the creatures of the reef as Terry pointed out the sea life and the health of the reef in general. He said the reef was really starting to come back to health! good news! They also learned about the biology and migration of the humpback whale even getting to touch real baleen! Unfortunately that day was particularly windy with lots of white caps in the ocean so we couldn't make out the tell tale splash of the whales. Heres some images to share... Continue reading

K.E.L.P is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy to Early Childhood Education. K.E.L.P is a program based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment based on the interests of the children through a self-guided curriculum. The curriculum is characterized by many features advocated by contemporary research on young children, including real-life problem-solving among peers, with numerous opportunities for creative thinking and exploration. Teachers often work on projects with small groups of children, while the rest of the class engages in a wide variety of self-selected activities. More on Reggio... Continue reading

We had a great day at K.E.L.P. preparing for the Fall Festivals here on Kauai. We invited our friends from Aloha School across the street to walk over for a visit with their teacher Leona. We used recycled paper shopping bags to make creativ masks using feathers, paint, yarn, tissue paper and tempera paint!
