Existing Home Sales for July plummeted to levels not seen since 1995. The drop in homes sales was the highest monthly per centage drop since 1968. Home Prices Gain in 91 U.S. Cities in First Quarter Real Estate and Housing Market News: Today's featured article is by Kathleen Hanley in Business Week. Today's Featured article is about Fannie Mae Raising the Bar on Interest Only Loans. According to an article by Mary Umberger in the Chicago Tribune, by the end of Quarter 4 2009, 18 per cent of interest only loans were delinquent. In September, Freddie Mac announced it will not longer purchase interest only loans. Fannie Mae will continue to buy them, but as of September of this year, Fannie Mae will require a 30 per cent downpayment from the borrower, plus a credit score of at least 720. Home Remodeling: A New Wave of Activity There is a new wave of home remodeling taking place. Home owners who realize that trading up is unrealistic for them in today's market are upgrading their homes to make a "home" a home to hang out in for a while. If you decide to remodel, make sure you check out any company you contract with for references and with the better business bureau. Case-Shiller Home Price Index Release: The Case-Shiller Home Price Index Composites were just released. "For the first time since December 2006, the annual rates of change for the two composites are positive. One composite shows prices for 10 cities, the other for 20 cities. The 10 city composite price index was up 1.4 per cent for February 2010 vs. February 2009, while the 20 city composite was up .6 per cent.
