Freshen up! It is close to 100 degrees here in NJ and I find I keep reaching for clean scents such as Mint and Lemongrass. Ginger & Lemongrass Iced Tea, chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream...Already we know how a morning shower with mint soap can give you a kick-start for the day, so imagine how refreshing it is after a long hot day. Yet, both herbs offer so much more: Anti-bacterial properties; just what you need for insect bites. Also, both, but particularly Lemongrass, repels insects. Lemongrass is found in just about every natural insect repellent. Are you congested when... Continue reading

Sometimes you need a little reminder about things that you love. It just happened here after receiving a new shipment of the Claus Porto large bath bar soaps. Not only are these a great quality, natural with a vegetable oil and shea butter base, but the packaging is gorgeous! Every scent has it's own design, inspired by Art Deco wall coverings. The bar itself is quite large, about 12 ounces. it even comes with finger grips on the bottom so it is easier to hold! They are milled 7 times (that is a lot), so it creates a long-lasting bar... Our favorite jewelry designers are the ones who are creative, on-trend (but not too trendy that you're not going to want it next week, next month or next year...) and designers that share our philosophy in giving back. One of our favorite in the store is Satya Jewelry. Satya has set up their own foundation to help children all over the world; giving them opportunities every child deserves. A portion of every sale goes to the Satya Foundation. They also design special pieces for a particular charity, like this rose quartz and silver charm necklace, made in partnership with the... We love Chan Luu's Wrap Bracelets and right now, our fave is the Grey Crystal Mix. Actually, it has always been a favorite, I personally think it is one of the most stunning styles. No wonder it is one of our top sellers! It is sparkly, yet elegant; it pops yet doesn't shout. And right now, we're mixing it with other grey leather wraps, such as the Grey/silver or Grey/pearl. Looks great mixed with a black and silver too - a little edgier... Tell us what your favorite combos are :) Continue reading

We had such a nice customer in the other day who received many baby shower gifts of bath products, your local drugstore brands. However, she made a point to make a trip to our store, with just days to go before she is due, to stock up on Noodle & Boo, "luxury for sensitive skin"! Noodle & Boo is a complete line of hair, body and bottom care that is proven gentle, safe and effective and created to work together for exceptional results. It is a line repeatedly recommended with confidence by dermatologists and pediatricians for newborns, babies and children;... Continue reading

While looking through previous facebook posts for soapmarket, red bank, I was a bit surprised to see how many times we post about one specific product line from our store, Chase Street Soap Company. I started to think, why? Why so many more from a single product line than from all the others we offer? The answer is why not? Chase Street Soap Company is the work of one very creative young woman. Her products are all handmade, fresh, different, natural and made locally, which is great. There is always something new, whether new scents in the olive oil-based bar... Continue reading

New Chan Luu wrap bracelets; getting very into the look of layering a few together and mixing with pieces of our own. Satya Jewelry (did you know Satya means "Truth" in sanskrit? this is a yoga-inspired line filled with healing gemstones, lotus flowers... Continue reading

Thymes: A company that has been around for close to 25 years, creating beautifully fragranced, botanically based products. Why do we love them? The products are excellent quality, the fragrances are unique, the company continues to stay modern, yet likable to women throughout our country. They don't use chemically-based ingredients, instead try to select botanical extracts from renewable resources, bio-degradable and eco-friendly; all things we look for. And, nothing contains mineral oil, petroluem, parabens, SLS/SLES, PABA and phthalates, all good news! Lastly, a little known fact: This American company sources over 90% of their ingredients domestically and the majority of... Continue reading

At our store, we've been busy lately with our town's efforts to become one of America's Fair Trade Towns (and we now are - Red Bank is America's 15th Fair Trade Town! And so, we are asked, why Fair Trade? In short, because it is a good belief to live life by. Fair Trade is a partnership between the producer/worker and buyer that seeks greater equity in international trade. Fair Trade ensures good working conditions, no child or forced labor, payment of fair prices, being environmentally responsible, non-discriminating and creates opportunities for economically disadvantaged workers, helping them to be more... In our store, we are often asked our opinion of smaller, privately-owned niche businesses selling to large corporations; such as Burt's Bees being bought by Clorox and The Art of Shaving selling their company to Proctor & Gamble. So, what are our thoughts? Have to admit, so far, so good. A great example is Burt's Bees. We've carried the line since we opened our doors over 5 years ago and were very wary when they were bought, but what we are seeing is large expansion, both into more retail venues (not the best thing) and in product line. Product line... Continue reading

Turn your shower into a home spa with a few spritz's of either eucalyptus or Lavender and breathe easy! Lavender will calm you, great for an evening shower while Eucalyptus is an amazing essential oil to help breathe, the best for cold and flu season. the Eucalyptus Mist is a... Continue reading

Why do we love France's Savon de Marseilles? So many reasons: it is pure, it is economical, it is gentle, it is cool - comes in huge 80 pound blocks and cut in-house at soapmarket & it works! This is a soap that has not changed since the Middle Ages. It is a minimum of 72% pure olive oil with the balance being natural vegetable oils, Mediterranean Sea salted water and alkaline ash from sea plants. It is still made in antique cauldrons and poured into open pits to harden. Since it is dried out in the open sea air,... Continue reading

ENVIROSAX Reusuable Bags - Why do we love these? Mainly, they are cool, inexpensive and compact. They are also are lightweight, portable, waterproof and each one holds the equivalent of two supermarket plastic bags. Who wants a bulky bag to tote around? They come in lots of great designs or solids, if you prefer. They roll up to 3" x 1.5" , so easy to throw in your purse if you're out shopping around and easy to roll back up! I tested these for 3 months before deciding to put in the store. I carried everything from lunch to groceries... Continue reading

Flo Water Deflector and Faucet Cover. Why do we love Flo? Because it makes bathtime safe AND fun for kids! Flo attaches to your tub faucet and then diverts the water, creating a waterfall effect. It will protect your child's head from the faucet. It creates great bubbles when used as a bubble bath dispenser. Kids will love that! Very effective at keeping shampoo out of eyes. Easy to install and easly to use. This is a great invention for parents... Continue reading

One of our favorite lines at soapmarket is from Dani, who make natural products for bath, body and home. The products are made from 100% vegetable oil bases; the candles from pure soy wax. Also incorporated are organic oils and other organic ingredients, without petroleum, paraben, artificial colors, dyes, animal by-products, or sodium or ammonia laurel/laureth sulfates. Their custom essential oil blends result in unique yet true to life scents. My favorite is the Grapefruit Ginger. But there are more reasons why we love this line: it is the way they care not only for creating natural products for your... Continue reading

Welcome to our first blog post! Here at soapmarket & soapmarketonline.com, we sell soap (as you guessed), bath & body products, accessories, gifts and handcrafted jewelry; all kinds of fun things. We strive to stay pretty natural, if not all natural, in our product choices as well as enviromentally friendly, while hoping to have something for everyone at the same time and hopefully not breaking the bank. We love manufacturers that consider the whole big picture when producing their product. All this means our job is pretty fun, spending the day in the store. We are a neighborhood shop, in...
