Our lesson for today was stacking - we had many staking options: Our lessons aren't very long - half an hour at the most - but really they are just a game. I keep the activity out for half the day and then replace it in the afternoon with a new activity. We don't spend the entire day at home, often we will go for a walk or to mothers group. If it is a nice morning we will go outside to play also. I am enjoying thinking of structured activities and it is helping to give some good balance... Continue reading

I know it has been a while since I have blogged, but I am trolling my way through the course to become a Breastfeeding Counsellor and it has been taking up a lot of my time these past few weeks. I have also been struggling with the anxiety issues I have in the past few weeks and I just need to stop everything for a while! However, just this week I purchased the 0 - 24 month Infant Documents, Articles and Lesson Activities from Montessori of the Earth and I am just so happy with my decision to purchase this... This is what my workspace at my job looks like- oh so practical and boring! I arrived back yesterday and sat down and started organising my desk and I couldn't help but feel coldness being expressed from it's pores. Immediately my brain started ticking over -what can i make so that my space has some quirky homemadeness to it? I'm thinking that a coaster might be a nice starting point that way there will be no nasty stains on my dest from the copiousamount of tea I seem to consume at work. So here I sit at work daydreaming and... Continue reading

I absolutley love that my little Action man can now walk on his own...I love the freedom it gives him - I really do. I don't love the freedom it has taken away from me. Lately I feel like I can't go anywhere unless it involves an enclosed space and I am feeling a little closed in. You see my little one is at that stage where if he is on the ground he runs away. Yet - he will not sit still in his pram for any length of time either. It is driving me mental. So far the... Continue reading

Do you ever get to certain points in your day and just feel totally frazzled and feel like you need to step back, sit down and regroup? I often get to feeling this way if I have been overscheduling myself and I have been running around from here to there without a break for too long. For this reason I try to only schedule one activity/appointment outside of the house per day. If I need to go and do some shopping - then that is our activity for the day. I do have to be careful about how much I... Continue reading

Baby wipes are the one thing that I forgot to factor in the cost of during the tiime that I was expecting our little one. And boy do they pack a punch! I don't know about you but we just go through so many! I got a bit sick of having to dash to the shops every second day for wipes and I also wasn't that keen on the chemical component of the purchased wipes. So after a bit of research - I made some! Here is how you do it: Using 1/2 a meter (or 0.6 Yards) of polar... Continue reading

Never have I been quite so happy to see one line - and yet feel guilty at the same time for being happy to see one. What am I talking about? Pregnancy tests! You see for the past few days I thought I may have been pregnant again - not that this would be a huge problem but we just need to wait a few months more and it would be much better timing. The whole time I was thinking Crap crap crap - we were meant to plan it better this time round! But at the same time thinking... Continue reading

Why is it theat even when we do something well enough - if we believe in our minds that it is 'not good enough'; we get down on ourselves. The scenario is as follows: I have wanted to cook a whole fish for quite some time. So I decided a few weeks back that I would just do it and picked today as the day. So I went out and bought the fish and all the otehr ingredients and then I spent an hour this evening preparing and baking the fish. In the mean time I made dinner for action... Continue reading

The first time I became aware of the concept of daily rhythm was through reading Montessori and Waldorf inspired blogs. I am sure that I was aware of the rhythms that take us though our life before this but it was reading these blogs that brought it further into my consciousness. I now realise that it is the small things that we do each day the same that give us consistency and comfort in our lives - regardless of how old we are. So we awaken and the little one and Dada have breakfast together - they have their own... Continue reading

What DO you do with a hungry toddler and 5:15 pm in the afternoon when you are trying to organise both his and the rest of the family's dinner? Give him Frozen peas! These made a surprisingly great toy and kept him entertained for enough time for me to get dinner finished and on thetable. I just gave him about 1 cup of frozen peas in one mixing bowl, an empty mixing bowl and a scoop - and off he went. from one container to the other and then some for the mouth!!! Continue reading

I must admit that it is taking me a while to get around to being 100% environmentally conscious. In fact - it didn't even occur to me until I had a child and I started to think about things like chemical exposure more seriously. It all started with me reading an article on the dangers and potential side effects of Bisphenol-A (BPA) - so I switched everything to glass, stainless steel and BPA free plastics - although I must admit that every now and again I forget. Then I decided that cloth nappies were an important step for me to... Continue reading

I am a girly girl - and a bit of a gym bunny. Why am I making this revelation you may wonder? Because these are two of the things that suffered during the time I was pregnant and in the first year of Master H's life. The reasons they suffered were varied - close relatives dying, moving accross the country, illness and pain due to pregnancy but most of all and especially after the baby was born - feelings of guilt and selfishness. The reason that it is in line with the title of today's post is because I am... Continue reading

We have had a nice day today - enforced slowing down through the onset of illness. The boy isn't really all that unwell - just contagious - so he isn't allowed at childcare! So today we went to the park! and played on the swings and chased Pigeons. I actually feel like I accomplished a few things at home because I had no agenda - I don't usually get to stay home on a Thursday! Feeling good again! Continue reading

This Steady Mom 30 minute blog challenge is turning out to be a blessing for me - it means that I am actually making the efferot to write here once a week (sometimes more!) - although today I did have a thought that as march progresses slowly for us - I may have a few things to blog about. One of those being Slow Moments. Slow Moment of the Day After the little one woke from his unusually long lunchtime sleep today he snuggled into me as though he was really still tired and wanted more sleep. Normally I would... February is such a speedy month! It arrives and then before you know it - it's all done and gone again. As we hasitliy apporach March and we enter my absolute favourite time of the year - Autumn - I have been inspired by Emily at Ready to Wait.com to make March the month of Slow. As the days get a little shorter, the mornings and evenings become darker and the leaves begin to change colour and fall. I need to learn to become more intentional and live in the moment - worry less about what is going to happen... Continue reading

I often talk about work-life balance here on my blog and that is possibly because it is something that is new to me and I am still trying to figure it all out. Since returning to my profession in a part time capacity I have noticed that I do not feel any different to how I felt when I worked full time. In fact, I feel as though I am better at my job - I am far more organised and make a point of being a good communicator to my colleagues to ensure that any problems which may occur... I agree entirely that a strong will is a beautiful thing - it gives them a predisposition to resillience that will help them throughout their life. Andrea

Two posts in one day - oh My! I really should spread it out over the week but what is a blog for if not to get things down on paper....um keyboard. The picture above is not very good - however - it is representative for me of how I am feeling about my job right now. I am indeed feeling very blurred about this job which I have no choice but to do right now. I am in the fortunate position of have a very well paid part time job and while I could be a full time stay... Continue reading

I just wanted to thank you for all the lovely comments that were left after my last Steady Mom post! This blog is relatively new and I get pretty excited about knowing there are people out there actually reading - so thank you - and I do hope you come back again! I was pointed in the direction of the most beautiful You Tube video over the weekend and I do believe that watching it has given me the key to finding my place in being a mother and knowing exactly where I want my fcous to lie. Watch the... Continue reading

The pictures tell the story really but the little one, despite having an upset tummy and being not allowed to have any cake had a ball on his 1st Birthday. We decided on a Shark theme because he really like the Sharks when we went to the aquarium and because when he crawls up our legs and catches us we call it a Shark attack. We had a lovely day despite being rained out of our Park location. Probably the best surprise for me was a lovely montage video that our 10 year old niece made with pictures and video...
