Recently, Alan and I watched a documentary about a husband who murdered his wife. He denied his involvement and had so cleverly covered his crime, that all the law enforcement authorities involved in the case were completely stumped. That is, until his computer was confiscated by a special technical forensic... Continue reading

Happy Saturday my friends! This week has been a full week. Alan and I attended LIFE 2011 where we were encouraged and deeply moved by the teaching of the Word by Hans Peter Royer, and by the awesome worship led by Kellen Jones (our son-in-law). Being at the conference left us filled up with renewed vision and energy in both our personal and ministry life. We also had the privilege of teach some workshops together at Truth Alive 2011, a conference for ministry leaders and spouses that piggy-backed the LIFE 2011 conference. Interacting with these amazing men and women filled... Continue reading

This past week, while chatting on the virtual front porch of The Heart Change Place, we took the pressure off ourselves of memorizing God's Word. Remember: it's not that we are going to stop paying attention to the verses that nudge us by God's Spirit. We will still write them... Continue reading

Yesterday, while wrapping up a workshop called Unleashing the Power of Personal Responsibility, I challenged the leadership team I had been teaching to a Call to Action...to identify 2 changes they were willing to work on immediately that would indeed help them to unleash the power of personal responsibility in both their personal and professional lives. As a Learning Specialist for a global corporation, I strongly believe that: "Real learning happens when we turn our knowing what to do into doing what we know." -Kathy Butryn As a result, each seminar and workshop I teach, and each coaching session I... Thanks for dropping by to connect! Click here to read my newsletter. Want to leave you today with this thought... Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races, one after another. -Walter Elliot Everyday we need perseverance, don't we? For instance, I just deleted this post 3 times while trying to write it. Kept hitting the wrong button and had to start over again. Yikes!!! So whatever "wrong button" you may be hitting today, be encouraged to have patience and persevere...one short race at a time! hugs...and have a great day, Did you read yesterday's post yet... Ok, so I assume you are thinking, "She wants to be more afraid? What's up with that?" Yes. Actually I do. I want to be a woman who is more afraid of missing opportunities than making mistakes. I want to be a woman who is more afraid of life-long regrets than temporary failure, hard work, what people may think of me, and disciplined habits. I want to be a women who is more afraid not to dream the unthinkable and attempt the impossible in the time I have left in my life. I want to commit to my life. It... Continue reading

The first thing I read today was a blog post from our church leadership blog, written by Dave Lombardo, one of our pastors at Calvary Church. God used it to get my attention (or as my sweet friend Kasimira would say, "it got to my spirit like a heat seeking missile") and I just knew I needed to share it with you today. So, with Pastor Dave's permission...here it is... ************ I don't like getting my hair cut. There are a number of reasons why, but the main one is that when I leave I am rarely satisfied. If you're... Continue reading

(ring of my cell phone) Kathy: Hi Ruth. Good to hear your voice. How are you today? Ruth: I'm good. Just calling to let you and Pastor know that Art (mid-nineties!) was taken to the hospital by ambulance last night. He has several infections, but on the right medication now. Kathy: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that--but glad to hear they have found some medicine that seems to be working. How are you? How can we help you? Ruth: Just pray. You know, I just told Art yesterday that it was the first day I actually was feeling myself. (Ruth... Continue reading

Did you know that every one of us has two amazing days each week where we can be completely carefree, never worry, and free from fear and apprehension? Ready? Here they are: Think about it for a minute. Whatever happened yesterday--all of it's cares and frets; all of it's pains, and aches; all of it's mistakes and blunders; all of its regrets--is now beyond our control. There is not one thing we can say or do to "un-do" or "re-do" what happened yesterday. Whatever will happen tomorrow--its possible adversities, burdens and challenges; its failures and mistakes; its large promise and... Continue reading

During one of his recent podcasts on monthly budgeting, I heard Dave Ramsey say something to the effect of: "Spend all your money on paper each month before actually spending a dime." Good budgeting advice. In other words, plan ahead. If you do, chances are you will have more money than month left over. How important it is to carefully allot our precious resources. That's what I am doing today. Not financial resources. My time resources. The gift of hours and minutes given to me each day. There is no such thing as an unimportant day! Not only that, Psalm... Lord, help me now to unclutter my life, to organize myself in the direction of simplicity. Lord, teach me to listen to my heart; teach me to welcome change, instead of fearing it. Lord, I give You these stirrings inside me. I give You my discontent. I give You my restlessness. I give You my doubt. I give You my despair. I give You all the longings I hold inside. Help me to listen to these signs of change, of growth; to listen seriously and follow where they lead through the breathtaking empty space of an open door. (-A prayer... Continue reading

Each month, the women@calvary gals (the women's ministry at my church) are memorizing a verse as we walk through our Character Makeover. I loved my time last weekend with these amazing women from South Shore Church, North Bay. The leaves were beginning to change colour. This is what I woke up to each morning...in fact, I took this picture while lying on my bed. Isn't it beautiful? And a picture from the other window in my room. Mary Lake was a sight to behold! We were at the beautiful Clyffe House Cottage Resort. Here is one of the lodges some of the gals stayed in. The topic for the weekend was all about boundaries--and how to set them in our everyday life.... Continue reading

Wow...there has been a great response to the Fall Reading Challenge. Thank you everyone who has left messages either here on the blog or emailed me. I have loved finding out what you are reading! You've all inspired me to keep on readin'! Some of you have asked very specifically how to start the fall reading challenge. As I have already shared with you, I am the type of person who can really get caught up in the details. When I get caught up in the details, I can come up with a great strategy. But unless my great strategy... Continue reading

A good strategy must intersect with intentional implementation in order for us to take ACTION. Unless we take action, nothing will change. You see, I've know for a long time that I wanted to be intentional about hiding God's word in my heart. I came up with a lot of... Continue reading
