The new issue of The Gurdjieff Journal is now out: http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/10journal/tgjcurrent.htm The article "The Challenges of Our Technological World-Time Part II" helps to underscore the reasons for needing to go back to a diet that is nourishing both to our bodies and the planet, and also helps us get our hands in the dirt, connected to the food that goes into our bodies and into our spirits. I tried making banana ice cream, and I am happy to say that it was everything all the recent press has it cracked up to be! The consistency was smooth and creamy, and strangely enough, the edges melted into a liquid very much like what happens when you can’t lick the cone fast enough at the ice cream parlor! Four bananas in my mother-in-law’s Vitamix, and a little water, and it blended right up with the help of the tamper. Without a Vitamix, however, I have heard you just have to scrape down the sides of the blender every so... Continue reading

Hungry the other day, I went to Trader Joe's to buy a salad. They had a spinach salad with Carrot Miso dressing. It was delicious, so I had to try to make the dressing at home. Here was my recipe: 5 big carrots 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 cup safflower oil 1/2 cup rice vinegar 1 inch ginger root 1/4 medium red onion (the ingredients list said Shallots, but I didn't have any shallots) 2 tablespoons light miso 1 tbsp sesame seeds (as the ingredients list called for sesame oil, which I also didn't have salt to taste (I didn't... I was in Fairfax, CA the other day, and walking down the street I found Lydia's Kitchen, a raw and cooked vegan restaurant. Much less pretentious than Cafe Gratitude in near by San Rafael, it was warm and welcoming with earthy art on the walls. This is the same Lydia that runs Lydia's Organics that you can buy at health food stores. I had the small raw 'kreamy pizzaz' and a fig drink. My baby had some banana. It was so good. I hope to go back soon. http://lydiaslovinfoods.com/cafe.html Continue reading

If you are interested in events of a spiritual nature, William Patrick Patterson will be speaking, in several different locations, on "Spiritual Realization or Delusion: Exploring the Life of Adi Da Samraj." A high profile man, Adi Da Samraj's life and teaching took a bizarre direction. This talk can be heard in CA and on the East Coast. Look for more information at: http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/20announce/events.php?page=2 Continue reading

So I may not be technically raw...not 90%, not 85%...maybe...ok, not 50%...maybe 25%? Maybe. Ok. The basil in our garden was starting to react to the cold, so I made RAW pesto: 1 part basil (the rest of what was in the garden) 1 part spinach about 1 cup olive oil salt juice of 1 lemon 3 cloves garlic 2 cups walnuts (pine nuts being hard to find right now) Really tasty! I can put it on raw veggie noodles, or cooked noodles. I have also frozen most of it in small "cookies" and put it in the freezer with... Continue reading

There will be another painting exhibition sponsored by Gurdjieff-Legacy. Just as the last, paintings by Bruce Freedman, this will be a short window of time to see the paintings of William Patrick Patterson. "Adventures in Inner Images" will be open on November 18th and 19th, with a reception at 7:30 on the 18th. For more information, see their website: http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/20announce/events.php?page=2 While looking at the information regarding the gallery exhibition, I noticed that the theme of the upcoming Seminar has changed. It is now simply "Gurdjieff's Complete Teaching of The Fourth Way Part 1". Why the change, I wonder? Again, see... Continue reading

Gurdjieff Legacy has announced its theme for the upcoming Seminar. It is: "Gurdjieff's Fourth Way Complete Teaching Part I: From Many Selves to Conscious Self to Individual Self to the Self." Intriguing, hmmm? What does this mean? In what way will the Seminar address the Complete Teaching? This seems an opportunity not to be missed for those serious about self-knowledge. Learn more at http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/20announce/events.php?page=2 . Continue reading

Garden Time! It's time for the fall vegetables to be planted in the garden. My little baby and I have been out there several mornings before it gets hot, sewing seeds for cold weather crops like chard, lettuces, broccoli, and pole beans. Hopefully it will be a green winter! Though since I've been pregnant and had the baby, I haven't had the energy or the time I used to take to prepare wholly raw food, I still enjoy it the most. When eating raw food (especially food right out of the garden), the life and energy can be felt so... Continue reading

Bruce Freedman, friend of this blog (a better friend than even I've been for quite some time), will have a "pop-up" showing his art at Prieure West Gallery Friday and Saturday August 19th and 20th. The theme is "Radiance," and explores the theme through color and patterning forms. It's free, and open to the public. On the 19th, there is also a wine and cheese reception...I'll take the wine, and there's sure to be something for those living the raw life! Find out more at Gurdjieff Legacy's website: http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/20announce/events.php?page=2 Meet the artist at the Priéure West Gallery, 121 Manor Rd.,... Continue reading

Gurdjieff-Legacy has changed the theme of its March Seminar. It is now "Being-Partkdolg-Duty & Being-Obligolnian-Duty." This is interesting, because the first entry I did on this blog was about the First Obligolnian Striving, to have in our ordinary being existence everything satisfying and really necessary for our planetary body. It is labeled students only, but interested parties will find more on the website at http://www.gurdjieff-legacy.org/20announce/events.php?page=2 Continue reading

So I've been SERIOUSLY neglecting this blog, as I have not been staying true to rawness (especially when it comes to dinner). However, I have been congratulating myself on eating much more raw food than the rest of the nation. That, and telling my elementary students that if they are really "not hungry," then they should at least eat the raw fruits and vegetables on their plate from the school. But I've recently got a boost in the raw diet area since my husband has been eating (more) raw more happily lately. So we've been juicing and smoothieing and salading,... Continue reading

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/28/business/economy/28leonhardt.html Now I am not saying I should be paid $320,000 a year to teach. But isn't it interesting that the usual way of defining how successful a student is, and the importance of her or his kindergarten teacher, is by his or her test scores in later grades. I...
