The students and staff in Tempe Union High School District never cease to amaze us by their willingness and even passion for ‘giving back’ to the community. Our student clubs and individual students devote hundreds of hours of community and charitable service annually, reminding us daily that these students will become our future leaders…and that is reassuring. The Chandler/South Tempe community was shaken in mid-August when an Aprende Middle School 8th grade student-athlete inexplicably took his own life. Many classmates, teammates, and friends of this incredible young man continue to struggle in the wake of this tragedy. Since Preston was an avid runner who participated in cross country and track, volunteers have rallied to organize a run in his memory. The Preston Kinney Memorial Run will be held on Friday, November 4th from 5:00 to 7:00pm with a start/finish at the Arizona Community Church. Tempe Union High School District announces general information meetings for the District's International Baccalaureate program at Tempe High School. Attendees will learn about the IB Diploma Programme and the advantages this world renowned curriculum provides students. On Saturday, October 1st the Scottsdale College Fair Foundation will be hosting the 5th Annual Scottsdale College Fair from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. There will be representatives from 98 colleges and universities from around the world, and we are anticipating that this event will attract about 1,000 high school students and their parents from around the valley.
