Finally back to blogland. Surprising how fast the time can fly. So what have I been up to? Well quite a bit. For one thing I have become a Pinterest enthusiast. But I don't just pin, I have used this amazing site for decorating ideas for home and work, the recipes to kick us out of food rut, the fitness ideas to kick my bootie, and the organizing ideas to streamline my line. Gotta love it! I am one of those crazy organized individuals who loves to have systems in place and ways to chart/control aspects of daily living. So... Continue reading

Yet another Christmas has arrived and how I adore Christmas time. I start playing Christmas music in November! With a new home and new town decorating was new all over again. I did feel a tiny bit of sadness, but just a tiny bit, as I brought out all my decorations and began to decorate this new place we call home. I remembered the excitement I felt at decorating my own beautiful cottage in the Villages....but time marches on and life brings changes. I am very happy living here so near to the ocean and the city! But still there... Continue reading

This couple just cannot seem to get enough of the ocean! We set out this time to check out the Petrified Trees in the ocean at Neskowin. However the tide was in and after a brief stop we headed back down the beach stopping at numerous places along the way. The weather was perfect with temps in the 60s! Amazing for so late in the year. On one of our previous trips my hubby had carved our names in the sand bank. We were so suprised to find it still there! I just don't think there is any place on... Continue reading

Jimmy and I both share a love for exploration and still are in awe of the fact that we are less than an hour from the beach. On one of our last trips we discovered Yaquina Head lighthouse. It was a cold day with fog rolling in and around adding to the feeling of being transported back to the time when these lighthouses played an essential role in the safety of sailors. It is easy to see how treacherous the Oregon coastline is in many places. The history of Yaquina Head is very fascinating! "The tower is the tallest on... Continue reading

Autumn days are upon us here in Salem and it is as beautiful as ever! We have had some heavy rain, but the clear days have been perfect! Even the rain has been a welcome change from the heat we had while living in Walla Walla. Our neighborhood has had a change in appearance as everyone has been bringing out their Autumn Decor. I jumped in with a nice pot of festive colored Mumms to brighten the entryway. With both of us now working we don't have near as much time to meander around and explore. However, we have reserved... “my friend, the ghost is through, his power ends.” One of my Halloween family traditions has been to watch Washington Irving’s Legend of Sleepy Hollow as narrated by Bing Cosby. I grew up watching this, shared my love of it with my daughters, and now my grandchildren are enjoying this yearly tradition. Because of this I have always had a fascination with covered bridges. Imagine my delight when I discovered that Oregon is home to more covered bridges than any other state. And most are right here within an easy afternoon drive! Of the original 500+ bridges around 51 are... Continue reading

Just want to say how much I enjoy your blog. The photography is beautiful. My children are all grown and I now have grandchildren, but you take me back to those joy filled days of parenting! Thanks!

It is hard to believe that summer is over and fall is once again upon us. After a long week of sitting, sitting, sitting while securing my Oregon Administrators Cert, I was ready for some serious down time. Erica, Joe, and the grands arrived for three days just as I returned home for the training. First day was spent at the Oregon State Fair. I had not been to state fair since I was a small child. Trin was competing at the state level spelling bee. She is much the brainiac like her mom! Although she did not make the... Continue reading

After much work with packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking we are settled into our new city and home. It was quite an adventure that could not have been completed without the assistance of three amazing son in laws, daughters, and Jimmy's son. They all pitched in and helped us to get it all done. We absolutely absolutely love our new home! Let me take you on a tour.. It is nice and roomy with all the amenities that I required...a soaker tub, double walk in closet (only one half shows in the pic), a huge master bedroom that allows room... Continue reading

On Friday the hubby and I take up residence in our new home in a new community. I face this new adventure with so many mixed feelings. Although I am so very excited, I am also a bit sad. It is bittersweet to be leaving this dear community where I have felt such deep bonds of belonging and happiness, to be leaving my beautiful home and neighborhood, and so many dear friends. Yet, I am so excited about my new position, returning to the city, and having a whole new area to explore. Also being an hour from the coast... Continue reading

Am I the only one who just loves photo phone apps? I just downloaded three new ones and this is what I have created so far..... These were created using Auto Painter I II and III. They allow you to chose one of the great masters and turn your photo into a picture. Pretty fun. I used Diptic to position them side by side. Pretty much in love with this app and the endless possibilities. Course I still use Pixlromatic, Vintique, and PhotoToaster the most. Love the ability to manipulate and enhance my pics while engaging my creative energy! On... Continue reading

So many many happenings swirling around, exciting changes, and new adventures. The past few months have brought numerous trips as we have been seeking to relocate. Seems we were gone every other week end. Mainly to Portland, but also a quick three day trip out to Minneapolis and back for an interview. It has been exhausting but also exciting. Still no definite job, turned down a few and been turned down for a few as I wait for just the perfect fit. In the midst of all this travel we made the decision to get married. No stress there; planning... Continue reading

Well February sure turned out to be a month of family time! Lots and lots of trips to visit and lots of visitors here. There was barely a moment to catch our breath! But what fun and what memories! Our first long week end was spent taking two precious grands up to Chrissy's farm for their first farm experience! They had the greatest time! Being on a farm is pure heaven for children. There was sliding down the hayloft, playing in the fort, horseback riding, four wheeling, hot tubbing, and lots of exploring. While there we also celebrated Elizabeth's birthday.... Continue reading

January certainly did slip by quickly. It was a very busy month here at Serenity Cottage. Many memories were made, including lots of family time. Chrissy and the grands came for a nice long visit. We had a grand time visiting favorite places, shopping til we dropped, cooking up yummy goodies, and the added joy of taking little Frankie with us to visit the Harley store. Olive is by far one of our favorite places to eat! Frankie loved those Harleys! We could hardly keep him off them. But then again, Jimmy seemed to want to try them all out... Continue reading

When the weather turns so cold and bleak, I find myself becoming much more introspective. Darkness creeping in so early forces me to stay inside more and that gives me lots of time to just think while knitting or crafting away. Funny how our minds never really stop working but are always adrift taking us here and there often as fleeting and skittish as a butterfly. With all this mind time I have been contemplating on how God always seems to bring us the right people/circumstances/events in our lives at a time when we are generally ready to take the... I really love this! It is much better than making resolutions. But that being said it is time to do a yearly check up on how my last years resolutions played out. My 2012 goal was to obtain a balance between work and life. It was my year to spend time engaged in pursuits outside of work that I enjoyed; friends, family, and getting back to the gym. I not only met all those goals but had the added sweetness of ending the year engaged to a wonderful man and looking forward to what lies ahead for us. So what... Continue reading

What a wonderful Christmas season this has been here at Serenity Cottage! Having that someone special by my side has just made life so much sweeter. Jimmy and I have settled into such a cosy life that suits us both to a T. Gotta just love that! The Christmas season found us busy with lots of shopping for special little ones. Between us we have 14 precious grandchildren!! A week before Christmas we made a trip to deliver packages to Erica and grands. When we arrived there was no tree! We knew we must immediately take care of that and... Continue reading

Welcome to Serenity Cottage... I absolutely love decorating for the holidays. A festive house is a happy house in my world. I have however scaled down considerably as the years have gone by. I used to take down all my decor and replace it with holiday decor. There was a time when the girls were young that I would put up 5 trees all with a different theme. I have since passed that torch, and those decorations, on to my girls....along with all the holiday cooking of plum puddings, fruitcakes, and cookies... Last year I did not put up a... After and 6 month hiatus I am finally back to blogland! It is amazing just what can happen in 6 months. How about a quick photo recap. Lots and lots of family time!!! It was six sweet months with lots of busy activity at home and at work. But the biggest news of the year is this gorgeous blue diamond engagement ring on my finger... Yeah I know I always went on about how deliciously, deliriously, decidedly, and delightfully happy I was as a single gal. And I sure was, until the universe had other plans and threw this crazy... In May I headed to Nevada to welcome a new precious grand daughter to the world. Emilee joined her big sister and gave me an even dozen grand children. It that crazy awesome or what?! Here is just the most adorable picture of Bella and her new sister Emilee. Bella is just so delighted with her!! And Emilee is just the sweetest baby EVER! Her momma tells me that Emilee is a very happy baby. By the looks of this picture I would most certainly agree. The day of the arrival we had to have some big sister wear. So... Continue reading

Wow has three weeks really gone by already? So much is always a going on around here and I try to enjoy every bit of it. A great deal of positive is churning around in my life. With the advent of spring and near perfect weather, Bliss has been getting lots of use. Riding is becoming a habit once again and my mental health is the better for it. Last week end I was able to put in some serious miles. Headed out and on the way back stopped at one of my favorite places, Whitman Mission. Here is a... Continue reading

The past few weeks I have been crazy busy with work. It has been all good, well actually great with lots of big things in store for me professionally. But it does take its toll on my personal time. So my crafting has suffered tremendously. I have managed to get in a small bit of knitting time but that has been about it. Still plugging away at this: Wingspan and so simple I should have finished it by now...sigh... I did have some fabulous grand time. Check out these faces: Little miss serious with little miss dimples:-). Smiley... I just... Continue reading
