Dissecting classic anime films with trends in off-Broadway theatre By Marcus Scott (Playwright /Musical Theatre Writer/Blogger/Reporter) With the current zeitgeist of American popular culture reaching a tipping point of Kafkaesque and Orwellian proportions, I needed to take a hiatus from the dramatic arts altogether. It didn't help that, when I am not reporting, I am writing two politically charged pieces. One being a contemporary drama about a coterie of fraternity brothers living in post-9/11 America; the other being a musical about one of greatest atrocities that ultimately kickstarted the U.S. Civil Rights movement in the 60s and the unique black... Max Vernon's "The View UpStairs" places emphasis on the Pulse nightclub shooting, LGBTQIA civil rights and Black Lives Matter By Marcus Scott (Playwright /Musical Theatre Writer/Blogger/Reporter) In the wee hours of Sunday, June 12, 2016, around 2 a.m., Omar Mateen, a closeted 29-year-old American security guard and lone wolf gunman walked into Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., and claimed the lives of 49 victims and left 53 more wounded and fighting for their lives. I tried and tried to think of something to say today, but nothing felt adequate. I have no words left. I have nothing to contribute except the obvious statement that something needs to change. I'm heartbroken. - David Davila Continue reading
