Orla Kiely SS 2011: Stiff Models, Adorable Dresses and Cake Lollies
Orla Kiely presentations at London Fashion Week are always a treat, quite literally. Not only are the clothes pure eye candy, but this time the print mistress had a sweet-faced 'cigarette' girl serving popcorn in pink retro (of course) cups and the most delicious things I've ever tasted - cake...
This is one of my favorite interviews on The Swelle Life. I really enjoyed reading it and Eugene's one-man approach and determination inspired me to take my designing more seriously. I have been pretty lost since graduation as far as what I want to do, but reading about Eugene's experience makes me more confident that it is possible to go forth with my label. I especially liked this line: "Fashion does not care how you get there, all it demands is you produce the refined goods worthy of being international status; it cares not for the 'oh-I-just-graduated-and-need-time-to-get-there' excuse." While my situation falls within the latter statement, it really puts things in perspective.
Bravo to Eugene and his awe-inspiring work. I can't wait for your Fashion Week photos!!
Eugene Lin: A Model Fashion Designer
Eugene Lin is a young designer new to the London fashion scene with barely three collections to his name - he's finishing spring 2011 for London Fashion Week this Friday as I write - yet the refinement and elegance of his finely crafted coats and dresses suggest the work of a well-versed d...
Wish I lived in the UK! All those shoes are fabulous!!
It's a Swelle Giveaway! Win New Shoes from Sarenza (UK)
A few months back I had the chance to choose and style a pair of Sarenza shoes for their Continental Fashion Finding competition. I happily took a pair of grey suede, tall flat boots from Valensia and they've been a brilliant addition to my shoe wardrobe, which must be equal parts comfortable...
Everything in this post was making me drool and then I saw that raspberry macaron and I almost died!!! I'm so jealous!! But congrats on your first red velvet... mmm they are so delicious :)
We have a cupcake place in town called "Let Them Eat Cake" and they have amazing red velvet cupcakes. They also have carrot cake which is AMAAAAAZING, sooo moist!! My boyfriend hates carrot cake and he admitted it was pretty good.
Cupcake Monday! The EAT! Newcastle Gateshead Edition
This past weekend EAT! held their annual foodie festival in Newcastle and Gateshead (where some people were actually walking around eating McDonald's hamburgers!) and I was sure to be there as they had a special cupcake event. Six local bakers specialising in the pretty little cakes set up t...
I would be more forgiving but this is unacceptable to even remotely attach to the name Chanel!! Karl baby I will help you out. You need me.
Surprises at Chanel Cruise 2011
Nothing out of the ordinary here, 'proper' Chanel I'm just not sure what to expect when I see what's come off the runway at Chanel these days (and this is fashion so that's probably the point). The fake fur extravaganza for fall and the previous spring hoe-down had me scratching my head. ...
Amazing!!
A Look Back at Picture House at Belsay: Forest Bedrooms, Teacups & Silver Dipped Ballgowns
Geraldine Pilgrim (corridor productions) Dreams of a winter night In some recent posts we saw Stella McCartney's stunning Lucky Spot installation at Belsay Castle, a horse made of 8,000 crystals assembled on wires in a hauntingly beautiful medieval room. The horse was a revival of sorts from...
Yes, DKNY totally stepped it up! Those outfits are so much fun and very wearable.
I went to a Catholic high school too and we didn't have any leeway. But of course, I daydreamed and sketched "proposals" on making our uniforms cuter and more stylish! Your daughter will thank you for making her different pinafores!
A Giant Helping of Sweet Fashion Week Leftovers
I spend so much time going through the collections gathering up images that get my adrenaline pumping but I don't have full days to sit and post all of them (there's so much in so little time!). But New York is so generous when it comes to giving the adorable-cool in countless incarnati...
Just looking at this post again... really stunning and beautiful, but wondering if anyone else has noticed the gross hairy tattoo detail on the model's knees?
LFW - Martin Lamothe's Collaborations in Sculpted Leather and Crocheted Chain
This may look like someone messing around with leather, making it spiky for some reason and leaving it up to you to make sense of it or just keep on going. But take another look at what a collaboration between Martin Lamothe and leather sculptor Sebastian Vecchio actually produced: right...
The brown sack-like boots with the embellishments and the mustard embellished sweater photo beneath it are my personal faves... but yes, that entire collection is just to die for! I love all the details.
Clements Ribeiro's Shimmering A/W 2010 with Boots to Match
This was the most beautiful collection I saw at London fashion week. I had the opportunity to have a brief chat with the lovely Inacio Ribeiro at the static presentation - and I have to say I've never met a person who had such a gentle yet commanding presence. I think he may be part ange...
I might die if I don't get one of those ecru shoulder/hand bags! I also love that yellow dress before your favorite bow coat!
London Fashion Week - Hanging Out at Orla Kiely's House
I so love Orla Kiely's fashion line. Season after season the Irish print master and accessories queen combines her original signature prints with the most adorable, smart and feminine dresses, coats and knits that never, ever miss. I want to be that girl. I am that girl, I just need the clot...
I like "Models I Met and Liked"... because people tend to think they are all looks and no brains. I have met some wonderfully intelligent models who were the most fun and easiest to work with because they knew they had to get the shoot done!
Swelle Giveaway! Notebooks I Met and Liked
A little while ago I received a great little notebook from Archie Grand. It's fuchsia pink, hard backed and just small enough to fit into any handbag. It came with the cover inscription 'SHOPAHOLICS I MET AND LIKED'. (How did they know??) All of their notebooks fit the '...I had and liked...
I feel unbearably sick. He was one of my major influences in my thesis and who I aspire to be if I choose fashion as my career path.
A Farewell Far too Premature...
I won't be posting today other than to say that Alexander McQueen has committed suicide. There aren't many details as of yet but WWD has claimed that much. This is terribly sad, devastating news and I can't quite believe it. I don't want to. Lee McQueen was an extraordinarily talented, inno...
