For dangerous activities, we usually make it a two-step process so that users have the chance to "confirm" their intentions. Like a Delete button does not pop up a confirmation dialog box - which may very well be given dismissed and gone ahead by inadvertent mouse click or keystroke. Rather there is a separate Checkbox to check to get Delete button to work or enabled.

I practise like Steve Mayne too; I regularly read Coding Horror via RSS, and only read further on comments for the topics I am interested in getting a more "in depth" perspective from what others have to state/suggest. Because we know Jeff is oftentimes wrong ;-)
