Lesley is a new stay-at-home mom to Eli, aka Bubbie, aka the Vomit Comet. She recently left her string of random, not-related-to-her-field-of-study jobs and isn't quite sure what to do with herself. She's wading through all the important parenting questions: cloth vs disposable, crib or cosleeping, at what age will I have to stop saying "fuck" around him, etc. Watch her flounder through her new life through this blog!

Due to border crossing issues, passport processing times and general broke-ass-edness, we will not be going to New York to visit Pete's mother at the end of the month as planned. Instead, we'll be using Pete's vacation days for this: Boring white walls? Your days are NUMBERED. (FYI, anyone who... Continue reading

The other day, after some demonstration of nerd-ity (I think I made a comment about SkyNet), we got to talking about what, exactly, makes a person a "geek". Here are a few things about myself that I was willing to admit: - While drinking coffee for the express purpose of... Continue reading

Oh my God, you guys. (You guys being my imaginary blog readers... or whoever it is that clicks over to the page but doesn't comment. Typepad TOLD ME you were here, you know!). I don't even know where to start. I am in the absolute WORST mood today. The kind... Continue reading

I spent a good chunk of time yesterday cruising Kijiji for Ikea-style (aka low to the ground) kids' bed frames for Eli, after coming to the bowel clenching conclusion that he's going to climb out of his crib early and we're going to be caught with our pants down. And... Continue reading

The other day, I sent my mom and sister a text... "Mt. Fang is erupting" ... and immediately I got a flurry of replies wanting to know just where this volcano was and exactly what was happening and was anyone HURT? At which point I had to really examine the... Continue reading

Please excuse the poor flow of this entry - there has been a sighting on ToothWatch 2010 and Eli is taking it will all the grace of a hurricane smashing into a coastal town. Which is to say, he's a destructive, loud, wet, force to be reckoned with. As a... Continue reading

I was raised Catholic by two people who, I think it's fair to say, cared more about the tradition of raising your children Catholic than the actual, you know, God part of the whole equation. I know that when I was tiny, we went to church fairly regularly. My younger-by-two-years... Continue reading

I'm an email horder. Concert ticket order confirmation from 2006? Kept it. Ditto the multitude of password/log in info for sites I will likely never revisit, some (or all) of which must have expired by now. LSAT results (no, I'm not going to law school) (Yes, I realize what a... Continue reading

What's that? I've been lazy about updating this blog? Well, that might be because I'm busy chasing down my HUMONGOUS CHILD. Who is an entire HALF A YEAR old. The mind, it boggles. Oh HAI, Mama! He knows his name but will also answer to Bubbie or just plan "baby".... Continue reading

Things my son, who is possessed by Captain Howdy absolutely precious and not at all going through a fussy stage, has spit up on today (so far - and I'm cringing as I write those words): 1. His pajamas 2. The clean outfit that replaced his pajamas 3. The floor... Continue reading

Thanks for the link, Dani! Some very helpful tips there. L - the miracle blanket is like a baby straight jacket. It's a swaddling blanket with inside flaps to immobilize the arms which makes it harder to get out of. It's awesome.
I think it might be time to get Eli out of our room. I have no real evidence to support this, other than a nagging feeling in my gut that we've crossed into More Harm Than Good territory. See, Eli has a tendency to develop a habit that really works... Continue reading

What's that you say? I have a blog?!? And the whole point of having one of these things is to, you know, maybe UPDATE IT occasionally? Pffft. You talk the crazy. I have my reasons for avoiding the publish button like the plague. And it's not even that nothing has... Continue reading

Awesome. What an amazing moment to have captured on film. And what an adorable little boy!

I had this whole idea for an entry about how my husband is like a preschooler in his ability to spread sickness but since everyone is sick, I have neither the time nor the energy to write it. Suffice to say, Pete got a wicked cold and promptly declared himself... Continue reading

So... the sleeping. Cue dramatic sigh. It was improving. We even got to a point where there was (gasp) a schedule. Up around 7:30, nap from 9:30 to 11ish. Then he'd be awake until 1, catnap for 20 minutes and up again until 3:30, at which point he'd go down... Continue reading

As far back as I can remember, I've never been the skinny girl. In my mother's house, there's photographic evidence of a little girl who started out blond and slender. She was pretty cute. But the hair became a boring brown and there was definite... chub accumulation by age eight.... Continue reading

As soon as we found out that we were expecting a baby, we agreed not to find out the sex. People asked the requisite question, did we know whether it was a boy or girl, and when we said that we did not, they'd inevitably follow it up with, "Oh...... Continue reading

I don't know where I summoned up the restraint but somehow I managed it. Probably because I figured I could nod along with my jaw clenched shut and get the kittens away from her OR go off on her and not know what in the hell she'd end up doing with them. She did deserve a good knock to the side of the head, though, didn't she?

I buried my cat yesterday. And boy, did that ever suck. We have a bunch of animals that we've accumulated over the years, being that we're soft-hearted (and possibly a little soft in the head, as well). It went a little like this: a friend of Pete's had a cat... Continue reading

My computer is sick. So, so sick. I tried to deal with it for a while but it's gone way past the point where denial is even an option. The thing won't charge, so I'm constantly racing the battery and then fiddling with the power cord, taking ten minutes or... Continue reading

Oh, Halyn, that is hilarious. I mean, ahem, very unfortunate and I solemnly shake my head in commiseration and did not smile at all when I read that. Also, please pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Actually, I have no business laughing at anyone's clumsiness as I am, as my mother has affectionately dubbed me, a walking calamity. It's a wonder I've avoided permanent injury, the number of shoelaces I've tripped over and trees I've fallen from. So I can accurately imagine how much that must have sucked. I find that the pain of the injury is always lesser than the feeling of people noticing my lack of coordination. Becky, do you have a date for you next visit?
I fell yesterday. Full out sprawled onto the ground, almost like a prat fall. In public, no less. Well, in my driveway but there were a lot of people around, arriving for what I have deduced must have been the neighbours' boy's baptism (based on gifts and states of dress).... Continue reading

I was going to name this post Photoshop Mindfuck because it totally IS... but I'm not sure whether I should be using the f word in the name of an entry. Fuck in the title seems a little audacious for a new-ish blogger. Within the body* is a whole other... Continue reading
