Ronan is obsessed with doors and latches. At the pool we joined this summer there is a kid sized door that separates the baby pool from the rest of the grounds. He loves to open and close that door even more than he likes to swim. Watching him play gave... Continue reading

Inder, You are so right! And will try cukes in partial shade next year for sure, no wonder I thought they needed lots of water! I guess you and I could add blackberry weeds to our list of unthirsty crops too. I couldnt agree more with the herb suggestions, I all but take mine for granted. Buy herbs? Its highway robbery! Fingers and toes crossed we actually see el niño!

The drought here in California is serious and scary. We have been asked to reduce our water usage as much as possible and for the most part the sacrifices have been easy. I have no problem taking quick showers and letting the lawn get brown, but I didn't want to... Continue reading

I finally made Ronan his baby blanket. I was going to make him one like his brother's but I was struggling to find the perfect fabric. In the time I spent searching, Ronan made it clear that he didn't want a satin edged baby blanket, he wanted a knit one.... Continue reading

Hi Emily! These came from Girl Charlee. This is also a great project to use fabric from clothes you dont wear anymore, or even stuff off the clearance rack at place like Old Navy! Happy Sewing and thanks for reading! - Carla

My mom's dogs love chewing on water bottles. And after letting me dress them up in ridiculous outfits, the least I could do was make them a few toys. This cute and simple sewing project makes the prefect upcycled dog toy. It’s safer, and much cuter, than just letting your... Continue reading

I am a procrastinator. I don't get things done ahead of time and I work best under pressure. I used to consider this a major character flaw, but as I age I've decided it just part of who I am. And for the most part it has no ill effect,... Continue reading

Those of you who have read Small + Friendly for a while now know that I'm not the best housekeeper. To say that I struggle to keep my home tidy would be an understatement. I'm a messy cook and a whirlwind of a maker. Add to that a non-neat-nick husband... Continue reading

Hi Sarah! You will likely need to make them much longer but only slightly wider (kids grow up more than out) I would try using a pair of leggings that fit as your guide. I hope that helps! Happy Sewing!

In an effort to reclaim my maker mojo I am trying to simply create on a whim (i.e. not "researching" on Pinterest for hours or thinking "that would be neat" and never getting around to it). This hurry-up-and-make attitude has always yielded my best results, but as my family has... Continue reading

I've got a confession to make: my all-or-nothing, perfectionist streak that has got me stuck in my tracks. I want to lose the baby weight, purge my home, make all of our food from scratch, sew a wardrobe for myself and two boys, undertake a number of home improvement projects,... Continue reading
