Tacoma, WA
Two friends from Tacoma with a sense of fashion adventure
Interests: We started this blog to chart a year without buying new clothes and to explore the true costs of fashion. Who makes our clothes? Where do fabrics come from? What can we do to be more environmentally and socially responsible? We’ll also share our best thrift store finds, fashion remixes, and crazy projects!

Last week, 386 garment workers died and many more were hurt when a building collapsed in Savar, Bangladesh...I wanted to share an interesting perspective on the recent tragedy in Bangladesh and how it's a reminder of the price of cheap fashion. Continue reading

Last weekend, I made my second pilgrimage to the Ballard Goodwill and confirmed that they really do have the best dress selection of any Goodwill I've been to. ..The Ballard Goodwill also has a great shoe section, which I judge by color range, unique styles, good brands, and percentage of shoes that aren't totally gross. Continue reading

The clouds parted, a beam of light shone down, and these shoes manifested themselves in all their vinyl glory. I found these ridiculous platforms at the Plato's Closet right by Southcenter Mall. For $8, I couldn't pass up the chance to break my ankle in something so bright and sunny...they're Fergalicious. Continue reading

These are earrings that Nina made from Shrinky Dinks (of all things). I remember sitting in her kitchen as a kid, using colored pencils to draw elaborate illustrations onto the plastic sheets. We would then carefully cut them out and bake them in the oven. Continue reading

This time of year serves as a good reminder that your jewelry may come with far heavier a price than you suspected...Besides serious environmental impacts of mining, many diamonds sold around the world finance brutal civil wars and human rights atrocities in countries like Sierra Leone and Angola. I love the orange ginkgo leaves on this stretchy XXI tunic/dress has I found at Urban Exchange in downtown Tacoma. At $8 it was a little overpriced for something well-worn enough to be pilly, but it is unusual. -Hannah Continue reading

This stunning pendant was made by my cousin Grace. Okay, so this is not vintage, but it is handmade. I hope I'm not giving away a trade secret, but the background beneath the glass is nail polish! She was selling these on Etsy.com up until recently and I will definitely... Continue reading

First, I cut a rectangular piece out of the sweater (about 10"x20"), being sure to keep two clean edges. I tried to cut along lines that would be easy to sew, avoiding slicing through the cable knit. Continue reading

weater dresses have become a wardrobe staple for me, lately. I've picked two to feature in this post. This first dress is BCBG Max Azria and I probably overpaid for it at the University District Goodwill in Seattle. Continue reading

Ah, my favorite shoe brand! This pair of Sofft shoes were only $8 at the Tukwila Goodwill. Thrifting-partner-in-crime Meg found them in the size 7 section and was devastated to discover that they were actually size 8. So, now they live in my closet. Thanks, Meg! -Hannah Continue reading

Second, a soft, red, crocheted poncho with the tag cut out. It's not flattering, but you could potentially survive a night lost in the woods with its blanket-like properties. Continue reading

By Hannah I thought this snowy day off would be a great time to take some photos of my favorite coats and get back to blogging. After a year and a half of relying on thrift stores for most of my clothing needs, I realize that used coats are a... Continue reading

A very cute plaid shirt dress or tunic by No Boundaries (for juniors). On second thought, it might be too short to be a dress, but pair it will leggings or jeans and you could probably wear it in public. Continue reading

So here we are, already a year into our challenge to stop buying new clothes! Overall, we'd both agree that it was easier than we thought and very satisfying. Our experiences were a little different, so we decided to each do our year in review... Continue reading

By Hannah Yes, Iris is still alive, at least in inventory and in theory. Tanya and I have continued collecting good-quality second-hand and vintage clothing and we're planning a fall friends and family sale for early October. We'll be advertising this event and featuring items as soon as we have... Continue reading
