I am a Modern Widow. I have a blessed and challenging life managing my business and my children. In the past decade or so I have been the stay-at-home mom, betrayed wife, gotten divorced, started a business (not blogging!), and become a single mom. Life is hard but God is good to me.

The year after I had discovered my husband's affair, we went through a very tough year of trying to reconcile. I won't go into all the details of that year. Neither you nor I have that kind of time. Anyway, I read several different kinds of books that year. I... Continue reading

James Dobson has a new radio show with his son, Ryan. It's called My Family Talk. Today's broadcast was all about Jim and Shirley Dobson's 50th wedding anniversary. Shirley recounted the story today of the example for marriage and love that her grandparents set for her. They had the habit... Continue reading

If you have a spouse that has left you chances are that you have been introduced to a lot of exciting new experiences (pardon my sarcasm, please). Among these new sites and sounds may be... -the counselor's office (where we go after things have fallen completely apart.) -the doctor's office... Continue reading

I read in my Bible recently that "perfect love casts out fear" (1 Jn. 4:18). So, I'm thinking about the fears that I faced and still sometimes face as a single mom. I have feared the day that my children will see their Dad with another woman and what that... Continue reading

What is it about discovering a betrayal that sometimes makes us think we now have permission or license to act on our angry feelings? That, somehow, if another person treats us badly enough we have the right to pour any amount of red-hot lava on their heads? (I'm hearing echos... Continue reading

If my emotional life is like a piano keyboard and each of the keys represents a particular emotion- press middle "A" and I'm feeling loved, hit the high "C" and I'm feeling irritated- then most of the time I would describe my life like a beautiful piano sonata in which... Continue reading

My Plan: I want to write a book, offer it as a free download on a website, and generate an income from advertising on the site. More specifically, I want to write a book about the particular challenges of being a young, Christian mother and wife who is facing the... Continue reading

Everything you need to know about money management can be found in my favorite (and very helpful) money management book by Dave Ramsey, "The Total Money Makeover". In his plan for financial freedom, Dave outlines a way to eliminate debt and, in his words, "begin to live like no one... Continue reading

Relationships are based on trust. Without trust, a relationship is the proverbial "house built on the sand". As my husband moving into his first affair many years ago, I (not knowing about the affair but certainly beginning to feel the impact of it in our marriage) began to feel as... Continue reading

Thanks to Family.Org and I get to hear my friends Dennis Rainey and James Dobson (and friends) every day! This is an invaluable resource for folks who might be strapped to their computers (especially those working from home) but who can listen to a podcast while they work. As... Continue reading

I read this quote today: "The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." -Sir Winston Churchill Being a 40-something, recently divorced, single mom- I'm sure- is a springboard into many opportunities. Reaching out to other single moms. Reaching out to divorced women.... Continue reading

I have heard this so many times lately and it just makes my stomach turn. I was having coffee with a friend today and she told me about another common acquaintance of ours who is considering divorce. My coffee friend was at some party and this angry wife was unleashing... Continue reading

Everyone faces a crisis now and then. My biggest crisis, so far, is the discovery of my husbands affairs. The second biggest crisis came right along with them. The crisis in my marriage created a crisis of faith. Where on Earth was God when my home and practically my entire... Continue reading

At first blush, this may not seem encouraging, but stick with me, OK? If you are just wrapping your brain around the knowledge of infidelity you may be, like I was years ago, sitting on your kitchen floor completely overwhelmed and struggling to just take a deep breath. I weaved... Continue reading

One of the books that helped me gain a better understanding of the importance and nature of relationships in general was Smalley's book called "The DNA of Relationships". I know I benefitted greatly from reading a book that outlines what good relationships look like. I don't know about any other... Continue reading

What's woman to do when she suspects her husband is having an affair? I can only speak from my own experience... but trying to decide what, if anything, to do about my growing suspicions of unfaithfulness was as stressful as discovering the affair itself. I had (on the outside) a... Continue reading

I was sitting in the counselors office for the first time. I should've gone years before. I was falling apart, crying in great heaving sobs telling this professional that my husband had been having an affair and it wasn't the first one. I just remember recounting to her the cruel...
