I recently had my second child and this time, I tried to be more prepared then I was the first go around. I pre-washed all the baby's clothes, read the instructions for my new breast pump, and (most importantly) this time - I had most of my postpartum meals preplanned. And one of those meals was getting a delivery from Blue Apron. I really didn't know what to expect but ended up LOVING it. I also decided that THIS is that gift that I'm giving at every baby shower from here on out. Because, honestly, this is the gift every new mom REALLY wants! Continue reading

I've done many posts on preparing for baby and I think that I do a pretty good job of making sure that I have what is needed before the little arrives. However, after the birth of Melanie, I realized that, while I had all the stuff, I had completely neglected to make any preparations for showing her off to the world. I totally forgot to plan for birth announcements, photo books, and photo canvases to showcase all her cuteness. But on my second go around - I was prepared, y'all! I booked a newborn session with Pure Happiness Photography and knew that, when it came time, I would be getting ready with Mixbook! Continue reading

Every now and then, I get an email from a reader who needs a little help (have you written to me?). I love these letters and try to help out when I can. Recently, Noa wrote to me asking for my assistance with a cool project for an upcoming wedding and I knew I could help! From Noa, "We have a family wedding (my husband's niece) but our family is so spread across the world that it is hard for everyone to attend. So we want to surprise her with a video of all missing family members singing to her and her future husband. It needs to be hopefully a bit familiar but ok if not. Just wishing them happiness and sorry we are not there. Can be funny and humoristic [sic] (it's a crazy family...).". Frankly, I LOVE this idea and would have straight up stolen it for my own wedding! Here's some options that I came up with for a fun, upbeat song for a family sing-a-long for you, Noa: Continue reading

One of the hardest parts about planning the honeymoon can be figuring out what the hell you're going to pack! Often, you've never been to the location that you'll be 'mooning at and it can be tempting to over plan and over pack. Don't do it! Save your money and save your sanity by pre-planning your wardrobe and packing a few versatile pieces (thus, saving precious space for shopping!). Here's my tips and suggestions on packing for 7 days in Anchorage: Continue reading

My daughter is just now getting to the point were she wants to help me cook. I love it and am always trying to figure out a way to include her in the process. I've discovered that having her help me with prepping bulk cooking that I do every month (making a taco spice mix, cooking up some chicken noodle soup for the week, and the like). Recently, she's been helping me make marinara sauce. She loves the getting messy part of it so much that I invited the kids next door over for a little marinara making party! Here's my recipe and tips for making marinara with kids and cleaning up with WaterWipes. Continue reading

Ah, the wedding night! For many, it's a chance to unwind, gossip, and... well, you know! For those of you hoping to make your wedding night a little more special, I suggest being sure to pack a separate, smaller tote with all the wedding night "necessities" (either on its own or tucked into your luggage) so that when the time comes, you can just grab it and get down to business. To help you out, I've created this fun "Married AF" tote and filled it with some bits I think make for a fun wedding night! Seriously, there's everything you need for your wedding night with this Married AF tote DIY (plus, a bonus wedding night DIY at the end of the post)! Continue reading

I've been on SnapChat for a few months now and I'm really enjoying the rawness and silliness of it. My daughter loves the filters and I love that I don't have to stage and then aggressively edit anything before I post it. But, so many of my female friends who use the platform have been receiving unwanted attention and nude photos from men. Men who seem to think that this is perfectly okay behavior and NOT sexual harassment (or even borderline actions that could place you on the federal sex offenders list [I mean, do you even KNOW how old these ladies are that you are asking to "send me nude pics?" - they could be 15!]). Anyhoo, in one Facebook group that I'm in we regularly clue each other in on these creeps and frequently share 114 things sexier to a woman than an unsolicited dick pic: Continue reading

As many of you know, Melanie stopped wearing diapers soon after her first birthday (she would literally rip them off her body) but just was not ready to formally potty train at that time. Fast forward to a few months ago, she was ready so we stocked up on toilet paper and started the process. It's been a bumpy road (Melanie is one of those kids who totally knows what to do but doesn't want to stop playing to actually go to the bathroom) but I can safely say that she's nearly 100% potty trained now. Along the way, I discovered some little things that I found helpful during this process. So today, I'm sharing my top 5 tips to make potty training easier (with Charmin® Essentials Strong): Continue reading

Ah, baby names. They are one of the BIGGEST deals during the whole pregnancy/having a baby process. Seriously (next to the gender) THIS is what everyone wants to know. And why not? It's something tangible to attach to an intangible object. It makes the baby REAL. But for me, more fun than knowing the name of a baby is learning the story behind the name. So today, I thought I'd share the story behind our baby boy's name. Continue reading

So, I have another baby and as of Saturday, he's two weeks old. We're pretty enamored with him. He's wonderfully chill and easy (especially compared to what a total asshole his sister was when she was a newborn). Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

This weekend, my little family had the opportunity to attend the LEGO® Americana Roadshow, a traveling display of large scale LEGO® models replicating some of the nation's most iconic and well-known landmarks. We had such a good time since this one-of-a-kind exhibit is highly visual, educational, and free! Melanie has been playing with LEGOs® since she was a year old and it was so amazing to see her get incredibly excited looking at the workmanship and inventiveness of the LEGO® exhibits. Truly, it is family-friendly fun for all ages at the LEGO® Americana Roadshow at the North Star Mall! Continue reading

I've been lucky enough for the last year to be able to snag the car from my husband (we're a one car family) once a week so I can take my daughter to storytime at our local library. Since it's literally the only time she gets to socialize with other children during the week, I've worked really hard to be sure and get us there no matter what. Sure, she sucks at sitting still and listening (and frequently stand RIGHT IN FRONT of the book being read) but she's definitely grown and gotten better at participating. I do love seeing her enjoy the new books and playing with toys but, I gotta tell ya, as a total introvert, I'm totally over being there with other parents. I KNOW! I'm an asshole. But listen, they're all there and have all these different personalities and, for my social anxious ass, it's super overwhelming. And they all basically fall into the same groups, or, as I like to call it - the 10 people you meet at library storytime: Continue reading

We were pretty busy this past weekend. We welcomed our second child into the world at 3:23 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016. James Finnegan (or Finn, as we're calling him) was born at 20.5" and 8 lbs, 6oz. He's got ginger hair and looks just like his Daddy. We're delighted beyond belief! Continue reading

I'm about to become a two-time parent and with it came a HUGE issue that I hadn't anticipated. How am I supposed to safely wrangle and transport a newborn and a rambunctious 3 year old around San Antonio (and on future road trips and vacations)? As many of you know, my daughter is not a quiet, sit in a stroller seat kinda kid. She's more of a let's-see-how-fast-and-far-I-can-run-away kid. We've been using a leash (and 100% happy with that decision) but really did somewhere for her to relax when we went out for a long day at the rodeo or park. And it also needed to accommodate her new brother and his growing needs. Luckily, I realized that the best investment you can make as a second time parent is the Evenflo Sibby Travel System and the Ride-Along Board. Continue reading

As many of you know, I just had my second child (Welcome to the world, Finn!) and we are knee deep in babyness over here. It's all uninterrupted sleep, boobs, and diapers. SO. MANY. DIAPERS. And you know what that means? So. Many. Wipes. And with that many wipes comes toxins and chemicals... or does it? Y'all know that I'm SUPER picky about keeping my house green and toxin-free. I strive to make it a safe haven for my family. But that's so tough to do with baby wipes! That's why I'm so delighted to discover WaterWipes! A company that is passionate about sharing why chemical free baby care is so important and how they are helping you achieve it. Continue reading
