This post is a little bit late since Finn turned five months old while we were on vacation in Walt Disney World last week. But, hey, better late than never, right? Our little guy continues to be the easiest baby and is just so happy all the time. He's got a delightfully cheerful personality and a little chub on him. Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

One of the easiest ways to save money on your wedding is to buy your wedding gown at a discount. For our wedding,I was able to get my wedding dress for free! Remember, a wedding is ONE DAY, unless you plan on donating your gown afterwards for a tax deduction, there's really no point in dropping a ton of cash on one dress (and, NO, your daughter will not want to wear your dress - did you want to wear your mom's)? Also, if you're a larger lovely (like me), trying on wedding gowns in a store could bring up feelings of insecurity - particularly since very few salons carry sizes in the double digits. So, here are my top 5 places to buy plus-size wedding gowns online: Continue reading

I hate teething. It is SERIOUSLY the worse. I joke that teething is nature's birth control. It's awful for the baby (they are in such pain and completely confused about what's happening), it's awful for you (you can't get them to stop screaming), and it's awful for anything located within 4" of the baby (everything will end up in their mouth and gnawed on). But you know one thing that doesn't have to be awful when it comes to teething? The tools you use to help sooth it. From teething necklaces to teething toys, I've found 12 totally cool and unique teething necklaces and toys for you and your baby to enjoy. Continue reading

A few months ago, a friend and I were messing around on social media and she jokingly held a bottle of Schweppes Ginger Ale in front of her face and yelled, "SCHWEPPES! DO YOU HAVE SCHWEPPES?!?!" and I died laughing. I had found my people. See, that's the punchline of just one of the many, MANY funny jokes from FX's "Baskets" which is starting it's second season on January 19th at 10PM. The show stars Zach Galifianakis as a hapless wanna-be French clown... in Bakersfield, California. In spite of that achingly funny premise, "Baskets" is really a show about family. Because Chip Baskets's family? Puts the FUN in dysfunctional! Continue reading

I have been in a battle with my weight since the day I was born. Literally - I was 10 pounds, 10 ounces! My entire life has been an endless round of gain and lose over and over again. I was incredibly proud when, about a year before my wedding, I finally got my bad eating habits under control and learned to exercise the right way. I lost over 70 pounds and, more importantly, felt amazing and strong. Then, I had a really, really difficult first pregnancy and gained 100 pounds. After Melanie was born, she was so hard to parent that all self-care fell by the wayside as I just tried to cope and keep my head above water for those first two years. After she mellowed out, I realized that I finally had the time and energy to focus on my health and fitness again... and promptly lost 50 pounds in about seven months! I was so excited! Then, I got pregnant with Finn and, true to form, gained back those 50 pounds that I had lost. UGH. Since his birth, I've managed to lose 20 pounds - mostly notably, I lost 10 Pounds in 4 weeks with Total Gym and I'm sharing with you how I did it. Continue reading

There are a lot of things that happen to you while your pregnant and after you give birth. In that spirit, I've rounded up my top 75 tips for pregnancy and postpartum: Continue reading

I've reached the point as a blogger that roughly half my income comes from "sponsored posts" (basically, people pay me to tell you about products that I like). I also make money from something called "affiliate sales" (which earns me a tiny percentage of a sale if I introduce the product to you and you use my link to buy it). The vast majority of these income streams involve me trying out a product and then sharing a craft or recipe with you or just offer my opinion or tips. I try very hard as a blogger to only accept opportunities for companies or brands that I genuinely like and already use. However, sometimes, I'm given the chance to try out something new - sometimes, I'm meh about it and sometimes... I LOVE IT. I'm frequently asked about these products so I thought that as an end of the year treat, I'd share with y'all what new things I tried this year that I really, truly love. My Favorite Things From 2016 Continue reading

Most of you know by now that I'm not a big fashionista. My idea of dressing up is putting on my nice yoga pants and a newly washed T-shirt. But, I've made a promise to myself for this new year that I'm going to try and focus on myself. I'm going to remember what it was like before I had kids - when I cared about what I looked like. I used to wear jeans and cute tops plus a statement necklace. I always wore a statement necklace! Since I'm a dressed casually even when I'm dressed up kinda gal, the addition of a bold piece of jewelry around my neck always pulled the whole look together. It made me feel stylish. So, I'm thrilled to have gotten a new statement necklace, similar to this one from Stella & Dot, and have been experimenting with different outfits that I can pair it with. Wanna join me in my goal to #FocusOnMein2017? Here's how to use Stella & Dot to create multiple looks with just one statement necklace! Continue reading

It's that time of year, y'all. When holiday cards are being mailed and epic newsletters are being written. Remember those? The entire time I was growing up, my mom would create one of these paper masterpieces every year to send out with our (painfully awkward) Christmas photo card. Using 1980's clip art and the art of exaggeration, my mom would pen an epic rundown of our family's year. Everyone used to do this but the advent of social networks has made the old habit almost obsolete. However, I've noticed that few people are still out there - hanging on to this age old tradition. And these same people are still lyyyyyyyyying through their teeth about the their "accomplishments" and humblebragging the crap out of every. single. little. thing. I mean, really, people. Like we all can't read between the damn lines. In fact, I'm so over these "Aren't I Better Then You" manifestos that, this year, I've decided to write my own. Completely unpolished and unapologetic. If Holiday Newsletters Were Real Continue reading

I'm going to guess that by now you've heard about the personal shopper subscription box service, Stitch Fix. This is a cool program that delivers a box of clothes and/or accessories to your door that are customized to your personal tastes and budget. I had them on my radar for several years but always assumed that it was too expensive, too trendy, or that the sizes where too small for me. However, I got the opportunity to try out a box last month and I. Am. Hooked. OMG! My initial thoughts about the program could not have been more wrong. So, in the interest of full disclosure, today I'll be addressing 6 common myths about Stitch Fix and debunking the crap out of them! Continue reading

We're getting there, y'all. Christmas is coming and you're running out of time to send those gifts. I like the last one - no stressing out over the "perfect gift" and (generally) no shipping. Still looking for a gift that you can give stress-free? Use any one of these 12 subscription box gift ideas for all those last minute gifts: Continue reading

One thing I learned from living in Alaska is that during the winter months, it's VERY important to keep your skin hydrated (from the inside out). Not only does it make you feel better (no itchiness or tightness of the skin) but it can actually help you stay healthy during this time of year. That's why I actively work to keep myself hydrated on the inside and the outside when it's cold outdoors and the forced air is on indoors. From drinking tons of water to stashing tubes of lotion everywhere, here's what I do to stay healthy and hydrated (with Neutrogena® Norwegian Formula® Hand Cream). Continue reading

Every other year, my little family and I spend the Christmas holidays in Texas with The Boy's family. The dress code is nice but casual so this year, I thought I'd toss the littles in some cute jeans and make adorable graphic tops for them with my Cricut Explore Air. I tend to be one of those people who "let's myself go" during my pregnancy. Like, I stop caring completely. After the baby is born, I can start to refocus on myself and feel like me again. If you're in the same situation and looking to regain that sense of self, here's my 5 steps for self-care after having a baby (featuring Neutrogena Body Oil): Continue reading
