From Cris: My good friend, Nicole (from Big Day for 10K) is here today and helping y'all out with some down-to-earth advice on registering. And why it's a good thing (no, really!). Image Courtesy of: Weddings by Color From Nicole: Face it, it’s okay to feel a little greedy – registries are one of the funnest parts of wedding planning. Honestly, though, what else beats shopping for whatever you want with someone else’s money? Nothing. Admit it. Image Courtesy of: Simply Elegant Bridal However, it can be pretty overwhelming, so I thought it might be kinda cool to post here some of the insight that Mr. Man and I gathered from doing our own registry: Register for 2-3 times as many items as you have guests. Sounds excessive but think about it, you’ll have a shower (maybe even two or three…) and those people will likely buy off your registry for both the shower and the wedding. Guests like to bundle. Registering for a bunch of kitchen utensils? Someone is going to buy all 10 of those (at $5 or $10 a piece) and put them in a pretty basket or container of some sort. Whatever you don’t receive as gifts (in most places, at least), you’ll get a discount on after the wedding (this is called a "completion program" and is one of the sweetest perks of registering). Image Courtesy of: Wedding Beauty Prioritize. Mr. Man wanted to go hog wild. We all know I’m Type A and couldn’t have that. $40 bathroom trash can? No sir, not when there are other $40 items that we actually need. Even though it’s tempting to just scan EVERYTHING, think about it… you don’t want to cannibalize the stuff you really need/want with things that are extras. Save those extras for the... Let me tell you, one of the hardest things about planning my own wedding was trying to write the wedding ceremony. I was not a fan of the traditional vows (I obey no one but myself thankyouverymuch) and really wanted to find something that reflected our concept of what we wanted our relationship to be. If you're in the same boat and looking for alternative vows here's a few with a fun and familiar lean from the wonderful world of Disney. Continue reading

When it came time for Melanie to start wearing cloth diapers (which didn't happen until she was about two month old), the actual act of cloth diapering suddenly became VERY overwhelming. Like, I got completely flustered and felt like it was too much work. So, I reached out to friends who cloth diapered and asked them for help. Using their tips and advice, I was able to figure out an easy-peasy system for cloth diapering. Continue reading

A reader on my Facebook page requested a post about song suggestions for an iPod playlist for a DJ-less wedding reception. She likes all kinds of music (Top 40 on the radio with a mix of some late '90s and lots of classics) but her fiance has the complete opposite taste in music. They'd really just like a variety of songs that will make everyone happy (from 20 and 30 somethings to the older crowd, too). In my experience, a collection of songs from the '80s/'90s along with some pop-style country and big hits from the '50s/'60s are the best mix for a wedding reception. Here are my suggestions: Image Courtesy of: Stephen Seward Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO Bust a Move - Young MC Jumpin' Jumpin' - Destiny's Child Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi Day O - Harry Belafonte Footloose - Kenny Loggins Moves like Jagger - Maroon 5 Roar - Katy Perry Push It - Salt 'N Pepa Marry You - Bruno Mars Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & the Waves Jump Around - House of Pain No Diggity - Blackstreet and Dr. Dre I Gotta Feeling - The Black-Eyed Peas Landslide - Fleetwood Mac Everlasting Love - Carl Carlton Come On, Eileen - Save Ferris Version Ain't too Proud to Beg - The Temptations To Make You Feel My Love - Adele Intergalactic - Beastie Boys Call Me (Maybe) - Carly Rae Jepsen Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett Now That We Found Love - Heavy D and the Boyz Crazy in Love - Beyonce and Jay-Z The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot Some Nights - fun. Bailey is my 1-year-old Lab mix. She's an awesome dog, but like most Labs, she high-energy and needs a ton of exercise or she'll tear my house to shreds. It's because of her that I've been heading out at least four times a week to go for at least a one-mile walk. It's because of her that I've been able to lose any weight at all. Sufficient exercise not only keeps you in shape, but keeps your dog lean too. It will keep you both healthy for the long haul and your dog will have less behavioral problems. Continue reading

Getting married doesn't have anything to do with having a wedding. The actual act of getting married is pretty basic and simple (see how to get married in your state here) and requires a little paperwork and no fanfare. But having a wedding? ANYONE can have a wedding (The Boy and I had two!). Which begs the question - why have a wedding? Well, I can only speak for myself but I loved having a wedding since it was an excuse to gather up friends and family I rarely see and have a great party. But don't listen to me, here's why other bloggers and Tulle readers think a wedding is the shit: Continue reading
