This weekend, my little family had the opportunity to attend the LEGO® Americana Roadshow, a traveling display of large scale LEGO® models replicating some of the nation's most iconic and well-known landmarks. We had such a good time since this one-of-a-kind exhibit is highly visual, educational, and free! Melanie has been playing with LEGOs® since she was a year old and it was so amazing to see her get incredibly excited looking at the workmanship and inventiveness of the LEGO® exhibits. Truly, it is family-friendly fun for all ages at the LEGO® Americana Roadshow at the North Star Mall! Continue reading

So, I have another baby and as of Saturday, he's a whole week old. We're pretty enamored with him. He's wonderfully chill and easy (especially compared to what a total asshole his sister was when she was a newborn). Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

One of the hardest parts about planning the honeymoon can be figuring out what the hell you're going to pack! Often, you've never been to the location that you'll be 'mooning at and it can be tempting to over plan and over pack. Don't do it! Save your money and save your sanity by pre-planning your wardrobe and packing a few versatile pieces (thus, saving precious space for shopping!). Here's my tips and suggestions on packing for 7 days in Santa Fe: Continue reading

I've been lucky enough for the last year to be able to snag the car from my husband (we're a one car family) once a week so I can take my daughter to storytime at our local library. Since it's literally the only time she gets to socialize with other children during the week, I've worked really hard to be sure and get us there no matter what. Sure, she sucks at sitting still and listening (and frequently stand RIGHT IN FRONT of the book being read) but she's definitely grown and gotten better at participating. I do love seeing her enjoy the new books and playing with toys but, I gotta tell ya, as a total introvert, I'm totally over being there with other parents. I KNOW! I'm an asshole. But listen, they're all there and have all these different personalities and, for my social anxious ass, it's super overwhelming. And they all basically fall into the same groups, or, as I like to call it - the 10 people you meet at library storytime: Continue reading

We were pretty busy this past weekend. We welcomed our second child into the world at 3:23 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016. James Finnegan (or Finn, as we're calling him) was born at 20.5" and 8 lbs, 6oz. He's got ginger hair and looks just like his Daddy. We're delighted beyond belief! Continue reading

I'm about to become a two-time parent and with it came a HUGE issue that I hadn't anticipated. How am I supposed to safely wrangle and transport a newborn and a rambunctious 3 year old around San Antonio (and on future road trips and vacations)? As many of you know, my daughter is not a quiet, sit in a stroller seat kinda kid. She's more of a let's-see-how-fast-and-far-I-can-run-away kid. We've been using a leash (and 100% happy with that decision) but really did somewhere for her to relax when we went out for a long day at the rodeo or park. And it also needed to accommodate her new brother and his growing needs. Luckily, I realized that the best investment you can make as a second time parent is the Evenflo Sibby Travel System and the Ride-Along Board. Continue reading

As many of you know, I just had my second child (Welcome to the world, Finn!) and we are knee deep in babyness over here. It's all uninterrupted sleep, boobs, and diapers. SO. MANY. DIAPERS. And you know what that means? So. Many. Wipes. And with that many wipes comes toxins and chemicals... or does it? Y'all know that I'm SUPER picky about keeping my house green and toxin-free. I strive to make it a safe haven for my family. But that's so tough to do with baby wipes! That's why I'm so delighted to discover WaterWipes! A company that is passionate about sharing why chemical free baby care is so important and how they are helping you achieve it. Continue reading

Now that my baby boy is here, I'm back on the breastfeeding wagon. I nursed Melanie for two and a half years and wore nursing bras the entire time. And, even when I'm not nursing, I have big boobs. Like, "who did your plastic surgery" (Answer: GOD) big boobs. That makes finding nursing bras in my pricepoint even more of a challenge. At this point, I'm kind of an expert at finding great nursing bras at an affordable price. I love the wonderful, frilly, lacy ones SO MUCH but they definitely tend to be out of my price range so I'm always on the look out for ones that are practical (but still pretty) and work within my budget. So, I've decided to help y'all out and round up the best affordable nursing bras for breastfeeding moms with big boobs: Continue reading

I don't know how the hell this happened but... here I am at 40 weeks. I never made it to 40 weeks last time and didn't think it was going to happen this time around (since every single doctor told me that going to 40 weeks at my age was equal to Stalin, King George, and Trump having a tea party). But, I went in today and did a stress test and no one got too worried about him so... here I am. Still knocked up. I've lost my mucus plug and had about four rounds of false labor (started Phase One contractions and they would stop after several hours) so I'm starting to get impatient and frustrated. Ah well. As I did with my first pregnancy, I've been taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

Over Christmas, we flew round-trip from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska - and then drove from there to Salcha (and back!). As many of you know, I was born and raised in Alaska and we visit go there to visit my family for Christmas once every two years. This was our first time flying with a toddler (she was 5 months old the last time we did this trip) and I was also several months pregnant. Overall, Melanie did really great during each of our four flights plus the two eight+ hour car rides but I did figure out some tips and suggestions for traveling with a toddler and I'm sharing them with you! There are lots of things to spend money on for a wedding. I mean, you HAVE to pay for the license and (sometimes) the officiant - or you won't be legally married. But there are lots of things you CAN spend money on that just make a wedding special. Like special invitations, wedding signage, and the ring pillow. The ring pillow was one of my favorite little touches at my wedding. I made it from fabric scraps and it was such a cool little detail. Some of you may love having a traditional ring pillow while others might opt for a fun alternative. Which ever you decide, here's a collection of awesome wedding ring pillow options and alternatives: Continue reading

39 weeks, y'all! 39 WEEKS. And that means that I'll be having a baby by next Monday. That's right. By next week, my little man will be here. Apparently, it's a thing now to not let "old mothers" go past 40 weeks because, if you do, Donald Trump will get elected as president (or something). We have a doctor's appointment today where they'll be doing a stress test and ultrasound to see how long they'll let me go (and, honestly, as long as the baby's not in distress - I'll be fighting for not inducing me). As I did with my first pregnancy, I've been taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

I was raised by a work at home mom (my mom has had her own accounting business for 40+ years) and, to me, it was the ideal situation if I ever became a mom. I'd get to spend time with my kids and be there for special school days or to volunteer but I'd also get to help make money for the household and retain a little of my pre-kid independence. And I'm thrilled to say that, for the most part, I'm incredibly happy to be a WAHM. Sure, it's exhausting and demanding and I routinely forget to brush my teeth, but, all in all, I like it. However, I have noticed that when you tell people that you're a mom who works from home - they... really DO NOT get it. It's funny to me to hear what people think WAHMs do (compared to what we actually do) so I've come up with this little graphic to show you what it's like to be a Work At Home Mom: Ideology Versus Reality. Ever since I posted a step-by-step tutorial about how to start your own blog and then followed up by showing you how to make money using affiliate networks like ShareaSale, Commission Junction, and Affiliate Windows - people have been asking me about making money using blogging (or influencer) networks. I'll be honest, I've only JUST started working with these networks (for years I accepted sponsored posts independently) so I don't have a lot of experience with the Big Networks. But, I do know which ones I've loved as a small niche blogger. So today, I'm sharing my top five favorite networks that pay new bloggers to post. Here's the ones I have used the most (and they are all free to apply): Continue reading

This weekend, my neighbor surprised me with the sweetest thing you can do for an expectant mom in the weeks before the baby comes. She made me a week's worth of bake-n-serve meals! Yes, yes. I know that every new mom wants meals like this after the baby shows up (I did and LOVED IT). It's the best thing ever to not have to worry about feeding people and yourself while also juggling a newborn. But honestly, it's so completely awesome to not have to think about planning, cooking, and cleaning up after a meal in those last few weeks of the third trimester. So, if you'd like to give an expectant mom the best surprise ever, here's a short list of some tasty bake-n-go and crock pot dump freezer meals that would be perfect! Continue reading

Phew! I at 38 weeks and feeling every bit of it. I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow which I'll be doing solo with Melanie so... wish me luck. This week is also exciting because (if her medical issues cooperate), my mom's coming! She's been at the births of every one of her grandbabies and didn't want to let some pesky major surgery stop her from being here for this one. Plus, this is the first grandson born to our side of the family in a long, long time - so everybody's excited for a little change! As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

A few weeks ago, I wrote a post and shared a little peek at our entryway and everyone LOVED the ceiling. And guess what? I do, too! Like, I really, really love it SO MUCH. We did it on a whim and I can't believe how amazing it looks. It was a bit tedious and, frankly, sweaty - but it was 100% worth it in the end. And the best part? We made it entirely out of the tops of the tables we made out of wooden pallets for our $5,000 wedding! So it's bad ass AND sentimental (seriously, not to get too gushy but I love walking in our house and seeing something that reminds me of such an amazing day in our lives). A bunch of you asked me to show how to DIY a rustic farmhouse ceiling from old wooden pallets. Keep reading for a full tutorial: Continue reading

If you've had a baby, then you've been there. You're laughing along to your favorite sitcom or suddenly cough and... boom - a little pee comes out. For me, it's not embarrassing. I mean, EVERYONE does it, right? But it does make me feel gross - especially if I'm out and about and can't change my clothes. I mean, who wants to be sitting around a little bit of their own pee, right? That's why I'm so delighted to share the awesomeness that is Poise® Pads (my favorite being the Light Absorbency - 132 Count). They give you back control over urinary incontinence and are SO discreet! Continue reading

37 weeks, y'all!!! I've got a doctor's appointment this afternoon (and apparently will have one every Monday from here on out until the baby is born). We're still trying to check small stuff of the To Do list (I'm looking at you light over my kitchen sink) and last week, the baby dropped! Yep, not all the way down but he's no longer killing my ribs and I can walk so much easier now. As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

I discussed a but before about how there's some items that you do not need to pack in your hospital bag when it comes time to have a baby simply because those items are available at the hospital and it's pointless to bring your own. That lead to a little discussion on my Facebook page about what items are at most hospitals and it's okay to snag them before you go. Listen, those things are built into the cost of your stay. You are literally paying for them whether you take/use them or not so why not take them when you go? In the spirit of helping y'all out, here's my suggestions for what to "steal" from the hospital after giving birth: Continue reading

As many of you know, I had terrible hip pain during my first pregnancy and nothing helped. People suggested all kinds of pillows and speical support things but really, none of it helped and I was just in pain all the time. Right before I got pregnant this time, we invested in a great new Tuft & Needle mattress and guess what? I haven't had a second of hip pain at all this time around. Which leads me to believe that the secret to how to sleep comfortably while pregnant without special pillows is all in the mattress! Continue reading
