To splurge or to save? That is the question in a budget wedding. In particular, many wonder whether or not to splurge or save on the bride's wedding day attire. Personally, I saved - but I do understand the desire to splash out and splurge. So, if you're looking for a super chic and gorgeous bridal look and want to splurge - here ya go (but scroll down for the same look on a budget!): Continue reading

We've all seen them - those horribly ugly bouquets in the supermarket floral section. They're always there - usually with the same three types of flowers and some greenery stuffed in there. And sure, we'd all LOVE to splash out and hit up a local florist for not-in-season peonies or orchids for the wedding bouquets but sometimes, the only option you have are those ubiquitous supermarket bouquets. Well, fear not budget brides and grooms, I'm here to show you how to make an ugly supermarket arrangement into a lovely wedding bouquet! Continue reading

If you've been following my parenting journey then you know I had a great birth that was natural and nearly pain-free. A huge part of having such a great birth was that I used the HypnoBirthing process. I decided to give this birthing theory a try after reading about it years ago and realizing that, with my Social Anxiety Disorder, I was going to need something to help me deal with the fear and anxiety of labor and delivery. I stumbled upon this book and used it to figure out the easiest way to implement the HypnoBirthing process without feeling overwhelmed. Continue reading

Inspired by the state of Virginia and the amazing Virginia Beach oceanfront, this "modern beach romance" wedding shoot uses the 2015 Pantone trend colors lucite green, classic blue, and added some sparkles (like the sun sparkles on the water). It also celebrates that gay couples officially can get married in the state of Virginia! Be sure to check out the DIYed map of Virginia for the guest book, the brides's gorgeous dresses, and the rickshaw getaway vehicle! And the sweetest part of all? Seems like every wedding you attend now has some sort of special dress code attached to it (generally in the bottom right hand corner of the wedding invitation). It can be tricky to try and figure out exactly how to dress appropriately for a wedding. So, here's a little help. Wedding dress codes decoded, if you will. Continue reading

Texas is having another mini cold spell and it has me dreaming about the summer months and everything we're going to do as a family. Now that Melanie is older, we can do so much more than we did last year and have her actually enjoy it all. Here's what I'm looking forward to doing this summer: Continue reading

The first step to planning the ultimate Tahoe honeymoon wardrobe is knowing your itinerary and the weather conditions for the time of year you'll be visiting. Really think about what you'll be doing for the bulk of each day of your trip - sightseeing, museum hopping, shopping, fine dining? By lumping like activities together, you'll better be able to plan what to wear each day (and cut down on needing to create multiple outfits for the same activity). Here's my tips and suggestions on packing for 7 days in Tahoe: Continue reading

I discussed a little bit about our kitchen remodel and shared some inspiration but today, I'm going to really get down and talk about all the nitty gritty details. We had always planned on remodeling the kitchen down the road but then, I got knocked up and down the road became "Um. NOW.". The kitchen was workable but several factors all came together at once to make remodeling this room something that needed to happen right away. Continue reading

For those of you sticking close to your home state for your wedding, you might be interested in maximizing that "homey" feel and incorporating it into your wedding. For a Connecticut wedding, I'd start with one of the state's most striking locales - the coastal beaches! Find inspiration in the vibrant flags on a sailboat, the sand of a coastal beach, and stunning yachts. Pair a simple wedding invitation, blue striped tablecloths, a bouquet of peonies, pillar candlestick centerpieces, and gorgeous coral colored details - you've got yourself such a lovely wedding! Melanie hit the 18 month mark around Christmas and we're pretty happy about it around these parts. She's definitely a toddler but mixed in with the mini meltdowns and temper tantrums are tons of really cool little moments (like when she cooks with me, sings songs with her Daddy, and "reads" her books). Here's a few of Melanie's 18 month favorites: Continue reading

Gonna get all smooshy here. Today is The Boy's 48th birthday. And I adore him so I am countin' down the 13 (for February the 13th) Reasons I Love Him. Image Courtesy of: Miranda Laine Photography Your endless quest to only wear shorts. Remember how you wanted to work for UPS because shorts were a part of the uniform? You love to snuggle (sorry you married a non-snuggler) and love it when I spoon you at night. For Christmas or your birthday - all you ever ask for is a hooker (P.S. Not happenin' dude). You're my baby's daddy. You have the longest, prettiest lashes. You always thank me for making dinner - every time. You're kepp playing "Word Feud" with me even though I always kick your ass at it. You love to watch "our" shows with me and patiently wait until I've finished putting Melanie to bed before choosing one to watch with me. When I need you - you are there. You will always dance with me. You completely enjoy being a Daddy and will sing silly made-up songs to our daughter, dance to "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" with her, and share everything with her. When you see cool cars on the road, you always point them out to me - even though I could care less about them. You are not afraid of asking questions. You will tile our kitchen with me at ten o' clock at night because that's when I decide to do it. How about y'all? How do you love your special someone? Continue reading

Save-the-dates. They're not required for a wedding but they're a nice touch. This little bits of paper act are like the foreword of a book or the opening act of your wedding. They introduce your future guests to the idea of your wedding, give a little sneak peek of the theme, and offer basic information on the where and when (for planning purposes). But what to include? Well, allow me to show you the only 5 things that need to be on your save-the-dates: Continue reading

For those of you sticking close to your home state for your wedding, you might be interested in maximizing that "homey" feel and incorporating it into your wedding. For a Colorado wedding, I'd start with some close to home inspiration - specifically, the state's stunning open skies! Find inspiration in the lovely pastels of the local wildflowers, the earthiness of the mountains, and the crispness of a winter's day. Pair a vintage wedding invitation, blue striped straws, a bouquet of wildflowers, blue jar centerpieces, and gorgeous honeycomb and paper tissue pom poms - you've got yourself one gorgeous wedding! As a work-from-home mom, most of my days are spent in yoga pants parked in front of my computer for hours. So a regular skin and make-up regime has seriously fallen to bottom of my To Do List. But recently, I really looked at myself in the mirror... and I was upset with what I saw. Sure - I'm 100 pounds overweight but that wasn't all that made me feel bad about what I saw. I was unhappy with how far I had let myself go. So I promised myself that I would try harder to brush my teeth before noon, commit to regular skin care, and try to slap a little make-up on each day. I'm not trying to be a 50's housewife - I'm just trying to get back to a place where I feel better about myself. If you're looking to make the same goal for yourself then here's a little rundown of the few (and affordable) products that I use each day. Continue reading

Now that we have the structure of the front porch and entryway addition, we get to move forward with the finish work. Well, actually, the reality is that we stopped working on the addition once it was livable because we got married, got pregnant, and had a baby. But shortly after Melanie was born, we got a jump-start on the finish work thanks to a delightful group of slaves volunteers. Continue reading
