I'm not a native of Texas but since moving here, I've fully embraced the spicy, bold, and flavorful foods that make up this state's culture! In particular, my family has embraced anything deep fried and barbecued. Bold flavors make up the bulk of our meals and I'm always looking for some solid ways to bring that taste into my home. Right now, my crew is particularly enamored with State Fair® Corn Dogs. They love how the brand is tasty and made in Texas (a huge part of my husband's heritage) and I love that they are a good source of protein. Plus, they are so easy to make - just 20 minutes in the oven and dinner is served. Recently, I had our neighbors over to watch the Spurs play and needed to feed everyone. So I busted out some State Fair Corn Dogs, mixed up these three fun dipping sauces, and let everyone go to town. They're delicious enough to stand alone or pair them with some coleslaw and potato salad for a true #TexFest gathering. Continue reading

The wedding registry. For some, it's a fantastically fun experience and for others, it's a difficult chore. Traditionally, wedding registries are comprised of a mountain of fancy kitchen gadgets and formal dining pieces. And that's awesome - if you're into that kind of thing. But what about the rest of us? The one's who enjoy cooking but are just learning or who don't try out every trend. What about those of us who like having friends over for yummy food but aren't formal? Well, you CAN have that kind of registry. It's yours so why not pick out exactly what you just know you'll use and enjoy? From simple flatware to investing in quality cookware - you should get what you will need for your new kitchen. Don't believe me? Here's why I think even beginner cooks will love having the Braun MQ777 MultiQuick 7 hand blender on their Bloomgingdales.com wedding registry! Continue reading

Getting married and becoming a new couple means a lot of things. Joining finances, discussing future plans, and... joint decorating. Funny thing, it always feels like it's the last one that drives couples to bicker! Trust me. I know. I've been there. After my husband and I got married and started renovating our home, it felt like we endlessly fought over decor styles. He's very into what I call "dude art" - prints with horses, men fishing, and dead animal mounts. I am definitely more feminine and like color and abstract imagery. Combining the two is tricky but, using a few tricks that I've learned, it can be done. Here's how to create the perfect marriage of art with a gallery wall featuring Minted! Continue reading

When it comes to a daily routine with babies, it's the little details that make a huge difference. And when it comes to nursing and pumping, it can be those small things that make feeding your baby easier for everyone. That's why Philips Avent is committed to fine-tuning their products. They genuinely want to improve the lives of parents across Canada and the States. I especially love how the Comfort Breast Pump is designed to allow me to nurse my son on one side and pump on the other with complete ease. It's such a time-saver and I love the efficiency of it. I really appreciate how Philips Avent is supportive of parents who nurse and parents who pump - all they want to is to assist you in feeding your baby in the way that is best for you and your family. Are you a big fan of "Fixer Upper"? Me, too. And it's not just the houses and liberal use of shiplap that make me smile. More often than not, I find myself checking out Joanna's relaxed chic personal style. In particular, I love it when she wearing leather earrings. I think they are so cool and understated. So, I decided to make some for myself with my Cricut Explore Air (but using faux leather) and embrace my inner Joanna. Check out these faux leather triangle earrings (featuring Cricut)! One of my favorite parts about planning my $5,000 wedding was picking out the wedding stationery! From the save the dates to the invitations to the RSVPs, I LOVED picking out the colors, fonts, and design for my wedding suite. To me, the wedding stationery gave my guests a peek at what to expect at the wedding (Will it be colorful and bright? Elegant and chic? Or filled with handmade touches?). For many couples, the wedding stationery is a really special touch for their big day. But, it can be stressful to pick out just the right suite for their needs. Well, that's the awesome thing about wedding stationery from Wedding Paper Divas - picking out and customizing stationery is SO easy and really fun. I love how easy Wedding Paper Divas makes finding wedding stationery! Continue reading

Six months is when all the magic starts happening, people! Today is not only when Finn hits the six month mark but it is also his dad's 50th birthday! I'm doing this post right after he had his six month well baby check-up (everything looks great) and his latest round of vaccines. Everyone continues to go crazy over his ginger head, blue eyes, and adorable personality. He's gearing up to eat his first solid food (sweet potato) tonight and his dad's excited to be the one to feed it to him. Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

Valentine’s Day is coming and I’m sure that you’re thinking up wonderful ways to celebrate with your partner, spouse, or friends but have you considered using the holiday to encourage your children to embrace all their loving relationships? From the time I was a toddler, my father would carefully pick out a card to give to each of his daughters on Valentine’s Day. They always featured a poem and were signed “Love, Dad”. I received one of these cards every year without fail, even after I moved out, went to college, and got engaged. The simple action of giving me a card on Valentine’s Day was my father way of showing me that I didn’t “need a man” on this holiday. Yes, a romantic Valentine’s with the one you love is fantastic, but so is knowing that a lot of people out there love you and think you’re great. Continue reading

Let's be brutally honest here. Sex after a new baby... can really, really suck. From being potentially painful, to possibly awkward, to your body making weird new noises, to being uncomfortable with your post-baby body - it is just an odd experience. Add in the strain of a new baby, sleepless nights, and the fact that you and your partner are more than likely bickering all the time, what used to be a fun and emotionally fulfilling experience becomes stressful and raw. You might feel a lot of pressure because you know how it's "supposed" to be. Well, DON'T. It's a whole new world, ladies, and you deserve to cut yourself (and your partner) some slack. Sex after baby can be awesome but it will probably take some time and patience to get there. So today, let's discuss having sex after a new baby and what you need to know about it. Continue reading

Let's be honest. Periods suck. The bloating, the bleeding, the eating, the crying - it all blows. And, while I'm extremely grateful that I have them and am a part of the great circle of life and blah blah blah... every month sucks just the same. The first year with your baby is a lot of little moments and big milestones. It can be overwhelming, frustrating, exhilarating, and amazing. It can also be a complete sucker of time. Time spent nursing, time spent rocking the baby, time spent doing extra laundry, and time spent shopping for baby necessities. Like diapers. OMG. The number of diapers you will buy and the time you spend buying them! It's unbelievable to me how it always seemed like we needed to run to the store and get more diapers. No matter how hard I tried and planned... it seemed like we're always loading up in the car to buy more. So guess how excited I was to discover that Sam's Club is now offering a 2 month bulk supply of diapers (ON SALE). It's amazing how the Huggies® Little Movers 2 month supply gave me back time to spend with my baby! Continue reading

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family and I just got back from a week long trip to Walt Disney World. It was planned for exactly ten years after my husband and I first went as a newly dating couple - and this time, we got to take our kids! Finn (at a whopping 5 months) didn't much care about anything but Melanie? LOOOOVED it. Her absolute favorite moment was meeting Mickey Mouse! I had a feeling before we left that this would be a huge moment for her so I busted out my trusty Cricut Explore Air and made her a cute "My 1st Visit" T-shirt to wear when she met him. The tee featured an image that I made of a Minnie Mouse silhouette and the words "My 1st Visit" as negative space. The image was easy to upload into Cricut Design Space and took me less than ten minutes to upload, cut out, and iron-on to the T-shirt. What to make your own "My 1st Visit" tee or onesie for your Walt Disney World or Disneyland visit? Read on to learn how to upload your own images to Cricut! Continue reading

This post is a little bit late since Finn turned five months old while we were on vacation in Walt Disney World last week. But, hey, better late than never, right? Our little guy continues to be the easiest baby and is just so happy all the time. He's got a delightfully cheerful personality and a little chub on him. Like I did with Melanie, I'll be doing a little photo project for his first year with monthly photos and a brief rundown of what's happening in his little world (I'm sharing this in a format that I plan on using in a photo book featuring his first year): Continue reading

One of the easiest ways to save money on your wedding is to buy your wedding gown at a discount. For our wedding,I was able to get my wedding dress for free! Remember, a wedding is ONE DAY, unless you plan on donating your gown afterwards for a tax deduction, there's really no point in dropping a ton of cash on one dress (and, NO, your daughter will not want to wear your dress - did you want to wear your mom's)? Also, if you're a larger lovely (like me), trying on wedding gowns in a store could bring up feelings of insecurity - particularly since very few salons carry sizes in the double digits. So, here are my top 5 places to buy plus-size wedding gowns online: Continue reading

I hate teething. It is SERIOUSLY the worse. I joke that teething is nature's birth control. It's awful for the baby (they are in such pain and completely confused about what's happening), it's awful for you (you can't get them to stop screaming), and it's awful for anything located within 4" of the baby (everything will end up in their mouth and gnawed on). But you know one thing that doesn't have to be awful when it comes to teething? The tools you use to help sooth it. From teething necklaces to teething toys, I've found 12 totally cool and unique teething necklaces and toys for you and your baby to enjoy. Continue reading

A few months ago, a friend and I were messing around on social media and she jokingly held a bottle of Schweppes Ginger Ale in front of her face and yelled, "SCHWEPPES! DO YOU HAVE SCHWEPPES?!?!" and I died laughing. I had found my people. See, that's the punchline of just one of the many, MANY funny jokes from FX's "Baskets" which is starting it's second season on January 19th at 10PM. The show stars Zach Galifianakis as a hapless wanna-be French clown... in Bakersfield, California. In spite of that achingly funny premise, "Baskets" is really a show about family. Because Chip Baskets's family? Puts the FUN in dysfunctional! Continue reading
