We've all seen them - those horribly ugly bouquets in the supermarket floral section. They're always there - usually with the same three types of flowers and some greenery stuffed in there. Well, fear not budget brides and grooms, I'm here to show you how to make an ugly supermarket arrangement into a lovely wedding bouquet! Continue reading

Long before Melanie was born, I became more aware of my impact on the Earth and tried to take small steps toward making myself and my home toxin-free. I don't consider myself "green" - more like "greenish". Maybe a soft sage color. Can one be "sage"? Anyhoo, I tried to make little goals every few months that would allow my small changes to develop into long-term habits. For example, I insisted on using no-VOC paint throughout the interior of our house. So, when Melanie came along, I totally made a few environmentally-friendly choices. I breastfed, (mostly) cloth diapered, and made all her baby food. So, when it came to choosing disposable diapers and bath products for le bebe, I decided to try click on an offer for free samples from The Honest Company and see what all the hype was about. And, well, I have mixed reviews.... Continue reading

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being invited to attend a screening of the documentary, "40 Weeks" - a spectacular film that follows several couples and individuals through their pregnancies. Directed by and produced by his wife, , this film was wonderful. I took my husband along and, honestly, we thought that this would be a cut and dry "how to" on being pregnant. Instead, what we enjoyed was a journey through the story of pregnancy and birth through the eyes of real life couples. Continue reading

As a proud woman of Irish descent, I am a HUGE fan of St. Patrick's Day... Okay, who am I kidding? As a woman of Irish descent I look good in green and that's pretty much all I care about St. Patty's Day-wise. And my sweet girl seems to have acquired my coloring (sorry, Baby Bear) so she also looks great in 50 shades of green (See what I did there?). If your bebe is the same, then be sure to stock up on these St. Patrick's Day steals before it's too late! Continue reading

The first step to planning the ultimate Ireland honeymoon wardrobe is knowing your itinerary and the weather conditions for the time of year you'll be visiting. Really think about what you'll be doing for the bulk of each day of your trip - sightseeing, museum hopping, shopping, fine dining? By lumping like activities together, you'll better be able to plan what to wear each day (and cut down on needing to create multiple outfits for the same activity). Here's my tips and suggestions on packing for 7 days in Ireland: Continue reading

My good friends Helen and Adam Peabody bought their first house recently, a fixer upper with great bones, and have been doing some amazing stuff to the kitchen on a microscopic budget. Helen very kindly offered to write a review on the product they used to refinish their ugly laminate countertops. One of the biggest motivators for our kitchen remodel was the fridge breaking. Because when a major appliances starts leaking water all over your floors and subflooring... you need to replace it. We did try to replace just the fridge (but y'all know how that turned out) and when that didn't work out, I was able to figure out a solution where, for about $2,000 more, we got ALL new appliances. All. New. Appliances. WHEE! Here's a how it all went down. Continue reading

Just about every parent on the planet can tell you at least one horror story about a stranger butting into their business with unwanted advice or nagging (Seriously, just ask me about the time some guy informed us that our daughter was autistic because she wasn't wearing shoes...). But rarely do we share about the wonderful people passing by that make us feel better about ourselves or our parenting. Those moments are ALWAYS remembered though. In honor of them, I'd like to share a few times that I experienced the kindness of strangers. Continue reading
