A few weeks ago, I wrote a post and shared a little peek at our entryway and everyone LOVED the ceiling. And guess what? I do, too! Like, I really, really love it SO MUCH. We did it on a whim and I can't believe how amazing it looks. It was a bit tedious and, frankly, sweaty - but it was 100% worth it in the end. And the best part? We made it entirely out of the tops of the tables we made out of wooden pallets for our $5,000 wedding! So it's bad ass AND sentimental (seriously, not to get too gushy but I love walking in our house and seeing something that reminds me of such an amazing day in our lives). A bunch of you asked me to show how to DIY a rustic farmhouse ceiling from old wooden pallets. Keep reading for a full tutorial: Continue reading

If you've had a baby, then you've been there. You're laughing along to your favorite sitcom or suddenly cough and... boom - a little pee comes out. For me, it's not embarrassing. I mean, EVERYONE does it, right? But it does make me feel gross - especially if I'm out and about and can't change my clothes. I mean, who wants to be sitting around a little bit of their own pee, right? That's why I'm so delighted to share the awesomeness that is Poise® Pads (my favorite being the Light Absorbency - 132 Count). They give you back control over urinary incontinence and are SO discreet! Continue reading

37 weeks, y'all!!! I've got a doctor's appointment this afternoon (and apparently will have one every Monday from here on out until the baby is born). We're still trying to check small stuff of the To Do list (I'm looking at you light over my kitchen sink) and last week, the baby dropped! Yep, not all the way down but he's no longer killing my ribs and I can walk so much easier now. As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

I discussed a but before about how there's some items that you do not need to pack in your hospital bag when it comes time to have a baby simply because those items are available at the hospital and it's pointless to bring your own. That lead to a little discussion on my Facebook page about what items are at most hospitals and it's okay to snag them before you go. Listen, those things are built into the cost of your stay. You are literally paying for them whether you take/use them or not so why not take them when you go? In the spirit of helping y'all out, here's my suggestions for what to "steal" from the hospital after giving birth: Continue reading

As many of you know, I had terrible hip pain during my first pregnancy and nothing helped. People suggested all kinds of pillows and speical support things but really, none of it helped and I was just in pain all the time. Right before I got pregnant this time, we invested in a great new Tuft & Needle mattress and guess what? I haven't had a second of hip pain at all this time around. Which leads me to believe that the secret to how to sleep comfortably while pregnant without special pillows is all in the mattress! Continue reading

As so many of you know, I’ve been using this last month of my second pregnancy to plan and decorate a joint nursery for Melanie and Baby Boy. We’ve gotten a few big items crossed off the list: picked up a Big Girl Bed for Melanie, bought all the bedding for both kids, and snagged a gorgeous nightstand for next to the rocker. And now, I can start picking out the really fun little bits! Like these made-in-the-USA rockers from RockABye – I mean, REALLY, how cute are they?!?! So cute, that I’m having a hard time choosing the one (or ones) to keep in the room so today, I’m asking you to help me choose an awesome RockABye rocker for the joint nursery! Continue reading

I'm 36 weeks today and everything is headed in the right direction! We had a great appointment on Friday, threw Melanie a birthday party on Saturday, and picked (and put together) her Big Girl Bed yesterday. I'm completely exhausted and my back is killing me but, we're getting SO MANY things checked off my OMGI'MNESTING To Do List. As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

One of the hardest parts about planning the honeymoon can be figuring out what the hell you're going to pack! Often, you've never been to the location that you'll be 'mooning at and it can be tempting to over plan and over pack. Don't do it! Save your money and save your sanity by pre-planning your wardrobe and packing a few versatile pieces (thus, saving precious space for shopping!). Here's my tips and suggestions on packing for 7 days in Rio: Continue reading

Whee! It's that time. That time when I finally, FINALLY get to design and decorate an actual nursery for my babies. Remember how awful the room we were going to use as a nursery for Melanie was so I only got to dream about decorating it? Well, a billion years later and it's still pretty sucky but at least it has hardwood floors and isn't being used as storage. We have to wait a few months to put up the drywall and finishes (the room's layout is being slightly altered by the new addition so it's pointless to do any of that right now) but, in the meantime, I can still do a lot of decorating in there. I'm going to work with the room's paneling which was painted white before I moved in and will need to keep the current full sized bed in there until after my mom leaves (she'll be here a few weeks when the baby's born). But, I'm going right ahead and sharing the joint nursery design for our toddler girl and baby boy anyway! Continue reading

Sorry for the delay, normally I have this post up on Mondays but we had an unexpected death in the family this weekend and it threw our entire weekend routine out the window. But, hey, better a day late than never, right, and as of today, I'm 35 weeks knocked up. It's been a rocky past week but, hopefully, we're on the other side of it. As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

Woke up this morning and realized that I've only got a couple more months of being pregnant. That's right, as of today, I'm officially 34 weeks knocked up. That could explain why I've been so unbelievably exhausted this past week. I mean, BEYOND tired. As I did with my first pregnancy, I'm taking photos and doing a cute week-by-week FYI session from here on out (ala Little Baby Garvin). Continue reading

I am a slacker mom. No, no. Let me clarify that. I am THE Slacker Mom – the Patron Saint of Slacker Moms, if you will. I am beyond lazy. Look I adore my family and I’m grateful to be able to work from home but I am definitely NOT the kind of mom who plans elaborate parties to celebrate half-birthdays or creates a learning center in the corner or my beautifully landscaped yard for the neighborhood kids. Frankly, you’ll be lucky if you come to my house before 5PM and find me with my teeth brushed. So, keeping my house “company clean” at all times is… not gonna happen (I salute those of you who do though!). So, I’ve spent the last few years finding products that can quickly and effectively make my house shine. And with the help of Costco, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, Dawn Platinum Advanced Power, and Cascade Complete Action Pacs, I’ve perfected what I like to call, “The Slacker Mom’s Guide To Getting Your House Company Clean in 20 Minutes”. It's that time - that time when I'm far enough along in my pregnancy that everyone starts bugging me about packing my hospital bag. Last time around, I did a pretty good job of not over or under packing and I feel like this time, I'm even better prepared to pack only what's needed. So, without further adieu, here's my hospital bag for my second pregnancy and delivery (please keep in mind that I am low-maintenance and planning on a vaginal birth, breastfeeding, and going home the same day): Continue reading

As many of you know, my husband and I have been remodeling and renovating our little home for YEARS. We're doing all the work ourselves (with a little help from friends and family whenever possible - i.e. not hiring anyone) and on a tighter-than-tight budget. We are remodeling room-by-room and recently, we tackled the bones of the newly built entryway. This is a tiny addition (that includes a small half bath and a nicely sized front porch) that was constructed right before our wedding. We knew that we wanted the entryway to function as a mudroom with lots of storage while introducing people to the clean-lined, homespun style that we had designed for the rest of the house. Most of that feel would come through in the bones of the room and I learned a lot about how to style a rustic farmhouse entryway as we went along. Read on and I'll share what I learned with you! It's long been a tradition for the bride to gift her parents a little something on her wedding day to share her gratitude and thanks for the journey (and the big ass party). I've rounded up 10 great ways the bride can show the father-of-the-bride a little wedding day love: Continue reading

I'm at 32 weeks in my third trimester and, after a few really bad nights of sleep last week, I think that I'm doing better. I've managed to sleep a little better and started nesting HARD. Since I began blogging nearly 10 years ago, I've been actively looking for my people. Other bloggers who could share my successes, my failures, my struggles, and (most importantly) work with me to cross-promote our blog and social media content. Sharing content among bloggers is common and a great way help boost each other up and create amazing relationships. I am beyond grateful for the people that I have "met" online in these groups and love the connections we have made. However, while so many people in these groups are supportive and there for the opportunity to connect with other bloggers - there always seem to be the ones that just... aren't. I thought it'd be funny to share my thoughts on the 10 people you'll find in a Facebook blog promotion group: Continue reading

Ah, pregnancy. It's a magical FREAKING time. I mean, when else will your hair spontaneously begin growing at a remarkable speed (and I do mean ALL of your hair), your balance is all out of whack, and pooping is a brand new adventure. No, seriously. I cannot believe how much of my pregnancies revolved around my ability to poop. Like, every doctor wants to know about it, talk about it, and sometimes - even SEE it. My husband and I would discuss it endlessly. If I couldn't go - I was miserable. When I did go... well, it wasn't like before I got knocked up. But, hey, at least it prepared us for how much we'd be talking about poop after the birth of our children (The answer: OMG! SO MUCH!). So today, let's discuss pooping while pregnant and what you need to know about it. Continue reading
