Louisa Merry
I am a college student--an English major with a music minor--living and creating in Connecticut. I learned to knit and sew as a little girl, and my deep joy in the fiber arts and all things beautiful (inside as well as out) has unfolded pretty much daily since then. I love knitting, sewing, spinning, crocheting, decorating, eating lovely fruits and vegetables, spending time with those I love, watching movies, reading knitting books, playing with my beagle, growing closer to the heart of it all... I would love to have a modest sheep farm someday where I could love and cherish my little lambs, and we could delight in the sparkling coziness of life together.
Interests: knitting, sewing, spinning, decorating, singing, planning parties, spending time with special people

There's been a lot of vague philosophizing around here lately. I think it's high time we got tangible. There are a bajillion different ways to wash woolen garments. The official way is to go buy some sort of wool-washing shampoo and use it, following their directions. That's great, but I... Continue reading

These are the fireworks that illuminated Boston Commons on Saturday night at around 6:30 p.m. Inspiring! New Year's is one of my favorite holidays. While newness is available to us every moment of every day, this holiday offers a sparkly reminder that change is possible. December 31st invites us to... Continue reading

A couple of years ago I came to a realization which stemmed from a longstanding passion for making. I love making, and I believe that everyone would do well to make more things. I don't particularly care what one makes--it might be a scarf, a boat, a book, or a... Continue reading

As you may recall, I took a weaving class at MassArt in Boston this summer. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had! I finally learned enough about weaving to feel confident using my own big treadle loom at home, which I've been doing pretty much non-stop... Continue reading

I've been itching to sew some dresses of my own design lately. A couple weeks ago I took a spur-of-the-moment day trip to Boston to walk around and get better acquainted with the city. While I was there, I noticed so very many lovely summery dresses that I couldn't help... Continue reading

Now that I'm finally done with the semester, I am working hard to get things going in my shop again. You can expect to hear about additions to the shop here. In the meantime, for my dear readers, here is a little peek: Fondly, Louisa Merry Continue reading

One of the things I love about the fiber arts is that they are all connected and they all support each other. I began primarily as a knitter and sewer, but have grown to love many other fiber arts, including spinning, weaving, and dyeing. I have been especially excited about... Continue reading

I'm not sure just how many of you readers are knitters, but I most certainly am! I love to knit, and to talk about it, and to think about it, and to read about it, and, of course, to write about it. Some of my favorite things to see and... Continue reading

There have been two months of schoolschoolschool and holidays and making things since I last wrote. So I am returning now, a bit shame-faced but as nonchalantly as possible, and wish to convey how excited I am to be back with you all. These months have been busy and wonderful.... Continue reading

At the end of October, my mother’s rabbit Lochry arrived. He is a large white New Zealand house rabbit found through the Hoplineorganization. My mom fell in love with Lochry when she found a videoof him joyfully binking around his playroom at a rabbit rescue shelter. Having entered our home,... Continue reading

For Halloween this year, my boyfriend and I are going to be sheep. We both love sheep, so it seemed natural to us. We're very excited! This week we've been assembling materials and costume pieces. For the past couple of evenings, I've been staying up late knitting our matching sheep... Continue reading

For the last four years or so--ever since I began contemplating where I'd like to go to college and, by extension, what I'd like to do with my life--I've been struggling to find just the right balance for my interests, passions, and skills. I am so blessed to have family,... Continue reading

Hello hello! It's been another couple of weeks, and I have so much to say and share and show! We'll have to work through all of it bit by bit, though. So at the top of the list, I thought I'd let you all know FIRST that I'm currently developing... Continue reading

Summer came upon me with beauty and glory and inspiration. It brought me a new business with a whole lot of knitting and sewing in tow, time with loved ones, excitement and satisfaction, peace, and, of course, a blog! As August began, summer bestowed a knitting retreat, a vacation in... Continue reading

It is so wonderful to feel beautiful. I don't believe, as television commercials would like people to, that a Thing can bring happiness, satisfy, or make dreams come true. But I do believe that a beautiful dress can inspire a great deal of poetry in a woman's heart. And if... Continue reading

I must say, I love fresh figs. They are so rich and sweet in a deep way and... whole. They're oh-so-expensive but, I would argue, oh-so-worth it. To buy them every now and then in late summer and early autumn is to be very happy. I would live on figs... Continue reading

No, really. This is a true story. There we were, driving down down down through Maine at about hour two of our eight hour car trip home. I decided to entertain myself with needlework. I had been feeling an embroidery fit coming on all vacation. I spent most of my... Continue reading
