Our last full day here was technically not spent in the park, but around it. Our distance from the southern portion of the vast expanse of it kept us from exploring all the spots on my to do list--but that's okay because we saw a lot of amazing things and... Continue reading

Our third morning in the park started with a mad rush to catch low tide in the town of La Push at Second Beach. We were determined to go tidepooling and see some of the large rock formations on the beach, known as sea stacks. We were running a bit... Continue reading

Our second day in the magnificent wilderness of Washington was another one of lovely discoveries--starting with a mossy morning walk in the lush Hoh Rainforest. We took the easy Hall of Mosses trail and and marvelled at the varied tapestries of green encircling the trunks and branches of massive spruce... Continue reading

Hello from the tip top corner of the states!! We are loving our adventures in this beautiful part of the world! It is magnificent and words can hardly describe the breathtaking views from high on Hurricane ridge or from the shores of the sapphire- hued and glacial Lake Crescent--nestled at... Continue reading

Little G and I are enjoying our last few days together before big bro is out of school for the summer. I feel so lucky to have had him stay at home with me this year. We had a lot of fun together--and I will treasure it as he heads... Continue reading

We Love you Marche! It's been quite a while--but what a sweet reunion! Now I'll be searching for a little red teapot of our own--this one made us all so happy!! Of course we sang the teapot song when we saw it :) Breakfast was never so wonderful as we... Continue reading

We've tried many hot cross bun recipes, but this quick and delicious recipe (did you see the quick and delicious part?!) for hot cross *biscuits* is the absolute winner. Biscuits--and with icing? Why, yes--I'll take one or two or three! Try them--and see if they don't disappear as you slide... Continue reading

Welcome, sunshine-washed blue sky... So good to see you again--and the spring weather you brought along! We have even discovered some buttercups waking from their winter slumber... But, they are not ready to share their beautiful flowers and fragrance quite yet. The bees are oh so busy today--making hay while... Continue reading

We made it bright and cheery inside today with this super quick heart banner: I cut a strip of linen from a natural colored linen dress in my fabric stash (hurray for thrift store fabric finds!!) and taped it to the wall with some cute washi tape (I love this... Continue reading

Collaborating on comic books about pirates... Love the imagination and illustrations that came out of this hour... I thought of an easy fingerless glove pattern for my biggest boy, pulled out my felted wool sweater stash and started cutting... I love the ease of sweater sewing projects. They are (usually)... Comfort, warmth and coziness--these are the things that fill my mind in the winter. Wool scarves, knitted blankets, hot tea and hot-from-the-oven casseroles all beckon. Although it's not truly winter cold here yet, there is snow in the forecast and it is gray and drizzly and beginning to quickly cool.... Continue reading

I am so thankful for my biggest boy--the one who fell out of a tree on Sunday and hit his head. I am grateful that he is healthy and healing from a mild concussion. His persistent smile and resurfacing snuggliness are so dear and cherished right now. He is thinking... Continue reading

Mixing up our favorite sweet recipe today--Cranberry Chocolate Oat Cookies (and then cleaning the mixer paddle quite well). I do love a helper in the kitchen... We changed our recipe up a bit today--and we are enjoying the results!! We used whole wheat flour instead of the usual whole wheat... Continue reading

Welcome! Pull up a comfy chair... And pour yourself a hot cup... Settle in and enjoy some great links I've discovered and gathered in my travels--mostly from other blogs I love and frequent. In the spirit of the handmade, these are all things that you can make for your family... Continue reading

I love that we spent the last day of the year playing outside in the sunshine. The boys rode their bikes until the sun set in a blaze of wild pinks and vivid blues. It was a perfect ending. Happy New Year! The idea of the new year blooms with... Continue reading

It has been five weeks of couch rest--not that I've exactly been a dutiful rester. But, the weeks have primarily been spent pleasantly at home--entertaining my 3 year old with stories and playing on the couch. He also entertains me with his sweet antics and big hugs and kisses. I'm... Continue reading

This is what I've turned a nearly 3 week stint on the couch into--craft time! I sprained my ankle pretty badly after stepping in a deep hole in the yard. I spent a few days feeling rather frustrated and tired (maybe a bit grumpy,too)--but soon felt a more optimistic sense... Continue reading

I *treasure* the photos I have of me with my pregnant belly--they remind me of that brief but magical time that I had to contemplate the sweet life growing inside of me. What a beautiful time to dream and to make plans--to nest. Enjoy your pregnancy--and thanks for sharing your musings on men :) Your belly photo is wonderful!
Surprise green beans greeted us in the garden today. We waited and waited on them all summer--and now, finally, here they are. Now, we are busily picking beans before frosty fall nights arrive. What an unexpected treat!! Both boys were so excited to find the beans hiding throughout the teepee.... Continue reading

I am finally feeling at home again. It feels really good. All throughout the summer, we were showing our house, trying to keep it pristine (ha!) and really trying to sell it. This involved funny things that I can now admit--like the time I got a text that someone wanted... Continue reading

Today I am thankful for blanket forts--those wonderful, dark, deep and cool places--just right for boys to while away the day inside of. With flashlights, toys and pillows inside--this might just buy a summer break frazzled mama a moment to read a page or two in her current book (with... Continue reading

Hurray! Our favorite night of the week has arrived! Kneading (and taste testing) the pizza dough--these boys are serious about their technique! They are kneading to Eddy Arnold singing "Cattle Call"--because beautiful music is essential while working in the kitchen!! Beautiful movies--especially for kids-- can be harder to come by....
