Martial Arts Filmmaking: A Beginning
Stick Fighter: Shadow Boxing Part I from Steve Landon-Smyth on Vimeo. It's always been a dream of mine to make kung-fu movies like the ones made out of Hong Kong back in the 1970's and 80's. What I liked so much about those films was that they employed true martial... Continue reading

What to do with an overactive imagination?
That last blog post was a result of reading the word "Bigfoot" and having an overactive imagination. Now if I could only channel that energy into something meaningful. Continue reading

Revelation and the Rise of Bigfoot
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, lived a species called wookies. They were intimidating, large, furry, and powerful, but generally a nice lot. In our not to distant past, a ship of wookie intergalactic explorers crash landed on earth. Knowing what humans were like, the wookie... Continue reading

Once in a Blue Moon
Last night was August 31, 2012 and for the second time this month we had a full moon, otherwise known as a blue moon. I figured this was a good time if any to try to improve upon my moon astrophotography. The last time I attempted shooting the moon was... Continue reading

What is the Best Camera?
Man with Briefcase by Steven E. Landon-Smyth I love it when someone asks me what's the best camera they should buy. The answer is so simple it's scary. Buy the camera you'll enjoy shooting with. Buy the camera that you enjoy carrying around with you. Buy a camera that you... Continue reading

High ISO Nikon D4 Real World Testing
I'm one of those weird freaks that needs to read a new product's instructions in it's entirety prior to diving in to start playing. Some may say I have remarkable patients not just jumping in and playing with the hottest new Nikon since the D3s, but it's really just my... Continue reading

The Kino Flo Celeb 200 LED looks like the most interesting new lighting fixture I have seen in a long time. Lightweight, energy efficient, with flicker free kelvin settings between 2700-5500k. This new light is at the top of my most wanted list for 2012! http://kinoflo.com/Lighting%20Fixtures%20(LED)/Celeb_200/Celeb_200.html Continue reading

iPhone 4S Camera, First Impressions
Last week I had a good opportunity to test out the camera in my new iPhone 4S and I was quite pleased with the results. Rather than my typical day at the office, I had to go downtown to attend some ITIL training. For those that are wondering, ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructu...

Yes, Nikon certainly handles high ISO very well. Only reason I shot it at 3200 was due to the fact my tripod head couldn't aim that high. Since camera was not rock steady, I needed to shoot at a high shutter speed. That my friend is why I like the Nikons high ISO quality. The image posted here is actually a low resolution copy. I'll replace it with higher resolution image at some point.
Winter Moon
I've always liked looking at the moon, especially on clear winter nights. This will mark my entry into the world of astrophotography. This image is better than I have made previously of the moon but intend to continue improving upon my moon images and possibly other celestial objects. Note th...

Camera Leapfrogging
Every few years camera technology changes and pushes professional photographers to continually update their gear. This was not always the case. Before the advent of the digital camera, manual film based cameras ruled. Once you had a professional quality film camera, you were set for years to come, unless you... Continue reading
