Your nicknames...These days we call you sing sing. It all started with "Alsingla" which is what Max calls you because he can't quite say Alexandria. Now it just so happens that you love to sing the most lovely little tunes that are all your own, and sometimes you follow the... Continue reading

Those of you who are paying super close attention might have caught on to the fact that this sale is coming a bit late. It was actually back in March that both my store and a certain beautiful little woman (with whom I've fallen head over heels in love) turned... Continue reading

I did it! Two posts in one week. Haven't managed that in months. And the prize? Getting to share these easter photos before Christmas rolls around. (P.S. It's only April and I'm already getting daydreamy about this year's holidays. Is that weird?) There were easter festivities throughout the week followed... Continue reading

Hi Rochelle, I wish I could give advice but we actually have the opposite problem. He likes to walk but he likes to sit and nap even more! We sometimes use a kick board on a bugaboo (which is kind of fun for bigger kids-- we used to call it his skateboard) but when he gets tired he is unhappy about having to stand. More and more he wants to walk and I'm okay with that except when I'm in a big rush. Then an argument usually ensues! Kristin

Hi Ana, I have two children and have used 7 different brands and types of slings, wraps, carriers and back carriers. I received tutorials from 4 different experts on how to properly wear children at different ages in both my slings and my wraps. At all stages I listen to my children when determining what to use because they have been very good at letting me know when they are uncomfortable. Both of my children protested vehemently at different ages and stages when placed in ring slings or wraps that were safely and properly adjusted. My daughter preferred the ring sling for the first 5 months and then she wanted the Bjorn or Ergo. My son preferred the Bjorn from day 1 and then our Kelty backpack. I'm sure all children are different but this is what mine prefer. As for hip problems...My son who was carried in a Bjorn exclusively from 0-12 months until we switched to the Kelty backpack never had hip problems. My daughter however who was sling carried exclusively for the first 5 months, with her legs and knees positioned in the manner you describe as ideal, did have hip problems. I then switched to the Bjorn and her hip joint alignment/dysplasia improved. Not to imply a causal relationship, but I wouldn't say that your advice there is completely sound. Hip dysplasia can be aggravated by positioning, but the actual cause of hip dysplasia is unknown. Also, all methods of carrying a child (including on your hip) put some degree of pressure on the crotch area. The only thing my children have protested however is pressure on their chest/abdomen and/or restriction of their arms. When choosing between a screaming squirmy unhappy baby or toddler in a sling or wrap (that a professional has shown me how to adjust) or a smiling happy little one in a Bjorn, I choose the latter. Based on my experience I've learned that it's important not to judge other moms for their choice of carriers or strollers, or any other choice for that matter. Not every family is exactly like yours and you never can know how much due diligence another parent has done. We all love our kids and are trying our very best! Kristin

Most of these pictures were taken by Nora, my niece-in-law, a few weeks back while she was visiting over a break from school. We were stuck with a macro lens for the day but she made the best of it and got some amazing shots (mostly by running really far... Continue reading

When it comes to Valentine's day we are more homebodies than night on the town types. So a room full of balloons and flowers, heart shaped toast, bag full of dollar store treats and day packed with quality time was the perfect day for us. It was one of those... Continue reading

After weeks and weeks of waiting and wishing for snow and only getting those "Oh it's snowing...wait no it's melting" snow flurries, the skies finally agreed to open up and dump 11.4 inches of snow on our fair city. So we grabbed our new sled Ferrari (thank you Nora, Savva... Continue reading

Strong relationships take effort and time, and I'm learning that even between little people the rules are no different. In the last few weeks I've watched them grow closer as Max's respect for Alexandria grew. At first that respect seemed to appear out of thin air but then I realized... Continue reading

[BTW Alexandria did not draw those scribbles in the top photo! Max and I did most of it and then she made some edits.] I've been meaning to give an update on our home-preschooling activities (which Max has named "acta-tivities") for a while. Last year about this time I noticed... Continue reading

When I think back over the past two years I've noticed that each time I had a stretch of writer's block, one of two things was to blame: upheaval of some sort, or a period of rapid personal growth. Luckily this time it's the latter. By day I am a... Continue reading

I'm another lurker who visits all the time but almost never comments. I just wanted to add to the positive backlash against the negative comments on sponsored posts. #1 You are an inspiration to mothers around the globe (your style, humor and your willingness to put yourself out there post after post) #2 People should know by now that nice comments and page clicks are not all there is to blogging. Blogging is work and to not receive $ for your efforts would be unfair and not realistic so please don't let anyone intimidate you from incorporating sponsorships. #3 Like everything you post the watches were darn cool, James. So I don't know what all the fuss was about! I've been following bleubird for 2 years as a much newer mom myself I've learned so much from you and although we're the same age I think of you as big sister in that regard. So from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU! (and merry christmas!)

Hi Kris, You're right and we actually know a couple of people with strawberry allergies. They get a rash on the face. I think it's a reaction to the fungus that lives on the skin of the berries. I wasn't aware that it could cause anaphylactic symptoms as well, but that's good to know. It is probably best to avoid just in case!

Earlier today a beast known as "Holiday Planning" officially set fire to my 2012 To-Do List.
