Wow, Laura! Thank you for telling me that. And I already had posted on FB that I had heard from Jay today. Now I know I heard from him twice.
I haven't written anything here in a very, very long time. But today I feel compelled to talk about all my friends, those marching and those denouncing marching. I don't know if this is unusual as it feels, but my friends are almost equally divided politically. Almost everyone I went... Continue reading

So, yesterday it was Jay's birthday. Unfortuneately, he did not hang one more year on the line. It's been almost 2 years since I wrote I guess, and how ironic that the last post was about my half-marathon. I've hardly run at all or (obviously) written at all since then.... Continue reading

That's how long it took me to run the half-marathon. I really enjoyed the race. It was easier than I thought it would be. I had been warned repeatedly not to start out to fast. (To which my standard reply was, there is very little danger of that. There's not... Continue reading

Thirteen days ago, I received an email from Andy which read, in part, Blog? Dude. It's been a month. Think you're blogging is going by the wayside... To which I responded: Blog: noted. It has been a busy month. I'll get right on it. Which was clearly a lie, because... Continue reading

I'm a runner!!!! That is a picture of the new stuff I bought Saturday night to go on my 6 mile run yesterday morning. I asked my brother, who is a marathoner, at what point in my training would I need to start thinking about carrying water and/or snacks with... Continue reading

Funny how different things are depending on where you live. This is what Carole said about today's Ten on Tuesday Topic. I have a habit of complaining about the month of March. It’s long and I’m really sick of winter by this time. There are no Monday holidays and the... Continue reading

So, I told you, Katherine asked me how the New Year's Resolutions were coming. I thought maybe it would be a good time to revisit them. Maybe at the end of each month, I'll check in with myself and see how I'm doing. Feel free to play along with your... Continue reading

I've finished a few things. One of them has been finished for a while, but I couldn't show you yet. It is my first finished sweater of the new year, Irish Coffee, by Thea Colman. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I've gotten lots of compliments on it,... Continue reading

I just taught myself magic loop and knitting on two circular needles, and I like both of those for sleeves. I haven't tried either on socks yet. One of my knitting goals for 2011 is to learn to do some colorwork. Thanks for the giveaway. :)

Isn't that the beginning of a song? I got a text from Jay this morning saying "It's been 2 weeks since ur last blog post." This is sort of true. It is true that it's been 2 weeks since I published a blog post. I have two drafts that I... Continue reading

I'm in a hotel in Las Vegas. By myself. I flew here today, and I'm flying home tomorrow. That's a lot of potential knitting time on the test knit, which is due in 10 days. It's going pretty quickly now that I've separated the sleeves. But I left home without... Continue reading

This is why you need to move even closer to me, so that I can just shoo them across the street to you when they're in need of something homemade to eat.

Dear Katherine, Your children are so lucky to have a mother who makes them homemade bread and king cake and guacamole. That is why the next time Nathan wants hot chocolate, even when it is snowy or icy out, I'm sending him to his Aunt Katherine's house. Fair warning. Love,... Continue reading

Of course, slowly is relative. I knit at a decent speed--nothing that makes sparks fly of the needles, you understand, but if you're not a knitter, I'd probably look pretty proficient to you. I guess what I really mean is "One Reason Why it Takes Me Forever and a Day... Continue reading

These are the knits I completed in 2010. There are eleven projects total--four sweaters (or three sweaters and one shrug), one baby blanket, one pair of socks, one hat, three pairs of gloves and one cowl . That's one less than my goal of one finished project per month. I'm... Continue reading

One thing I miss about teaching is the depth of the relationships I developed with my students and their families. Generally speaking, I have friendly relationships with most of my customers, but it's rare that I develop a genuine friendship with them. Our contact is usually brief and infrequent. However... First things first. Today (Dec. 28, the day I started this post) is the second anniversary of Mom's death. We miss you so much, Mom. Second... my Christmas post, part one... Yesterday I read Stephanie's post about how her family had perfected their Christmas celebration. Before Mom died, I would... Continue reading

So, it's that time of the year again. On the one hand, it seems very promising to have a clean slate. On the other hand, it's a little depressing to contemplate making the same resolutions I've made many times before. Especially when I have to go back and make resolutions... Continue reading

Good news... We finally killed a deer. Here's the message I got this morning. "Vital shot from 275 yards! Ran 10 yards and dropped." Bad news... It wasn't Nathan who killed the deer. Now, I may have mentioned before that Mark and Nathan have gone hunting every weekend for 2... Continue reading

1. My new boots. I ordered a pair online. I was wary, because the name of the color was dusty wisteria. Well, I know that wisteria means purple, but I looked at lots of pictures, & they looked dusty, but not purple. They came today, and guess what? They are... Continue reading

In addition to being grateful for my grown-up family (Mark and the kids) and my growing-up family, Mom and Dad and Jay, I'm grateful for my extended family. Mark's mother died when he was in college, so the kids and I never knew her. But his father has been an... Continue reading
