Life changes, people change and oft times, i find myself changing my mind when i had been so sure of myself. Sometimes that's a good thing and lately, getting comfortable with past ideas has made life much more of a joy to live. For 10 years since 2002, we had... Continue reading

“The fragility of love is what is most at stake here—humanity's most crucial three-word avowal is often uttered only to find itself suddenly embarrassing or orphaned or isolated or ill-timed—but strangely enough it can work better as a literal or reassuring statement than a transcendent or numinous or ecstatic one.”... I used to know a guy... I lived with a man back when I was in my very early 20's. He died in August. I found this out last night as I was having a conversation with a friend in San Diego. She knew the family, knew the history, good... Continue reading

one of the things that prompted me to write this was that i heard Daulton was involved in a real estate pyramid-type thing in Los Angeles. there, but for the grace of... maybe it'll save ONE person from being involved in his world.
There are those years that will bite one in the ass as a hallmark of their badness. Good, bad, there’s always something that makes them stand out and leaves one wishing not to ever repeat the experience. This hallmark year started when I ran into an old flame and, after... Continue reading

Back on January 27th I wrote about a client who had established a conservatorship for his son James. He had taken a small pittance of money and turned it into $800,000 for the benefit of his child... It was meeting this almost 90 year old man, protector of his child,... Continue reading

Small Town, No Shoes and I have not had much of a chance the past few months to catch up with events so, owing to the fact that I have found 10 spare minutes in this already overburdened month, I’m spilling words... Starting from the front to the back -... Continue reading

My mother turned 80 yesterday and, while celebrating that honor with her, I couldn’t help but remember some of the stories that I had been told by other people about their upbringing. I can remember being shocked and saddened when more than one boyfriend told me of his upbringing with... Continue reading

Monday Monday morning was tough after having been gone for almost a week. The alarm went off at 6am, the big dog yanked me out of bed and insisted on being fed, the little dog wanted to pee and I wanted coffee which I could smell perking from the kitchen... Continue reading

Friday, thankfully… Friday already and just a few short days before I venture off to San Francisco to surf with friends, ride my new mountain bike and hang with my brother and best friend. And a little Indonesian dinner certainly doesn’t hurt! I love trips like this. Though it’s only... Continue reading

The Move The Parental Units are ensconced in their new apartment and they are enjoying it. I was told to “give it a month” and then they would start to settle in. It didn’t take a month, it didn’t take a week. My Dad, still a very handsome man, schmoozes... Continue reading

The move is complete and the parents seem to be happy! The new apartment is very nice and I've decorated it to look just like their last living room so that it would be less of a shock and easier to get used to. My brother and sister-in-law were here... Continue reading

My Small Town, No Shoes blog is popular. With a shit-load of people. And I know not why... Frankly, I attribute a lot of it to the following: 1) friends who are loyal to me and would read anything; 2) fellow surfers, also loyal but less likely to read; and... Continue reading

So grateful that this week is finally over yet, at the same time, it has been a week filled with some nice surprises. Lunch today at Cougar Springs Assisted Living Community saw my father come out of his shell and introduce himself to people. This was heartwarming to watch because... Continue reading

I was asked by a friend how to go about running a criminal check on someone. It seems she’s decided to re-enter the dating world after a few years away and wants to insure her safety. Hey, great idea! You never really know what trolls are out there and hell,... Continue reading

The moving date… After much wrangling, a helluva lotta grief, and Mom locking herself in the bathroom, we finally got Mom and Dad to take a look at Cougar Springs assisted living community and they liked it. This is fabulous news for me because the facility very nice, they will... Continue reading

"TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses --not destroyed --not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth.... Continue reading

The news this week is that the oral cancer medication is not suitable for me. The side effects have been extreme headaches that last the entire day, night and every second in between. I found no other alternative to the pain except to go back to the injectable chemo. The... Continue reading

No clue what the comment is about, why or who left it. But gne writer knows litttle about sharks... Anyone who has surfed where i have knows that it's not about killing. They bump and run when they realize that what they've hit is not prey... A shark attack is absolutely about food - and, as they eat on a 24 hour schedule, it would be difficult to predict their feed times. Unless we're at Sea World... But thanks?
If you only look at what is, you might never attain what could be Valentine's Day has reared its ugly Hallmark head again and in the stores it's a take no prisoners attitude from every clerk trying to push the last rose and box of chocolate. I truly wish they... Continue reading

Friday and it's construction time again. It's Friday and, as I am feeling grateful that this disasterous, horrible, loveless week has finally come to an end, I am also reminded (a phone call with loud banging and hammering in the background) that I am again living in a construction zone......
