Wow! It is gorgeous outside today! I went out to water a few things i transplanted yesterday and got carried away picking flowers and rhubarb! This is one of my two lilac bushes...the backstory is i took them as starts from a bush at my parents house probably 10 - 11 years ago and planted them by my house. Well, they never did anything. They grew a little, but never bloomed. So, plants that i'm not quite ready to give up on but aren't quite cutting it up close to the house get moved out to the fencerow and that's... Continue reading

Hi Friends! Just popping in on my way to the ballpark to let you know that the Flea Market Fancy and the Mama Said Sew will both be on sale this week! Yay! Have I mentioned yet that we are now in the tuxedo rental business?!? Well, we are...and it's prom season! I am having fun seeing the boys in their tuxedos! It's funny...the first thing they all say after they put it on is "this thing is hot"! lol I just remind them that when they get there and first thing they want to do is shed the jacket... This week's featured tutorial is from Melissa at Happy Quilting Melissa. Starburst is a beautiful quilt using fat quarters that has directions for 3 different sizes!! It looks a bit complicated, but Melissa simplifies it down to just Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese. At the end, she even has a tutorial for the quilting! How awesome is that!! But, if you decide you don't want to tackle the quilting, contact us for a quilting quote. ;) I think it would be stunning in our Spring Fat Quarter Collection! The only hard part will be deciding which fat quarters to... Continue reading

So, trying to step up the game here at blog central and i suppose some kind of schedule might be a good way to achieve that. So far we have Feature Fabric Sales and, now, Tutorials on Tuesday! Yay!! Most of the time these will be projects I find here and there in the land of internet, occasionally they will be from yours truly...I actually have tons of ideas for them, but, alas, most of them are still stuck in my head! ;) This is a cute little toy block project from Jessica of Mama Jama Quilts. You can find... Continue reading

Even though it's not very springlike outdoors, today's customer quilt feels a fresh spring day with all it's colors and flowers. This one belongs to Georgann. It's made from some April Cornell Moda fabric from a couple of years ago. She wanted it to be a little bit special, so in the borders i outlined the floral design and in each of the strips we put a different pattern. I think it turned out pretty special. I tried a couple of patterns I hadn't done before and i was happy with them. What are you working on today?? Hoping this... Continue reading

I've been going through my older photos tonight looking for some photos I took last year of some quilt tops I found a garage sale. My husband is listing them on Ebay for me. (Just click on the purple ebay word if you want to check them out.) Anyways...i found all kinds of photos of things i took to share with you but never got around to it...imagine that. ;) So, thought it might be fun to do a post with random photos and facts. Check it out: The Berry-filled, white chocolate frosted cake I made for Christmas Eve at... Continue reading

Chevrons and babies today...watermelons and babies last week...nope, not trying to drop any hints...no new babies in this house. Except this cute little fella who has kept me from accomplishing much of anything today. Meet Luke. His mom, my sister, is moving from Louisiana to Ohio and is out house hunting. Yay for a 4 hour drive! (we live in Indiana) Oma is watching Luke's older brothers, James and Andrew while I keep this peanut. Fortunately for me, Olivia just got home from school and she is a GREAT babysitter!! Hence, a couple minutes to pop in and say Hi!... Continue reading

Hi Friends! Just trying to keep warm here on the first official day of spring break...like many of you, this sight greeted me this morning! God has a great sense of humor, huh? just heard the snow plow going through ;) I thought I would show you some great resources for quilting ideas. These are my new, favorite books on quilting design and technique. Yesterday I was able to get a couple of quilts done that I thought you might like to see. The first is Paige's watermelon wallhanging. She and her husband are building a new home and she loves watermelons for her kitchen. Please don't mind my messes...I'm not very good at staging photos...which really means I'm not too concerned with cleaning up just to take a photo. ;) Here are some close-ups: I also did this baby quilt for a friend yesterday, she shall remaind nameless because it's to be a baby gift and I don't want to give away a... Back home from vending at The Gathering over the weekend...time to get back in the saddle and be productive. Here are a couple photos from The Scarlet Thread Quilt Co booth at the show...still working on displays, etc. We were supposed to have a booth by the wall so we could hang things as I don't have my own pole and drape, but we were mistakenly put on the end here. I think it worked in our favor though as being on the end or a corner is generally considered a premium spot. The host guild was SUPER helpful and... Continue reading

Just popping in to let you all know I am working on lots of fun stuff to show you soon! I am going to be a vendor at The Gathering on Saturday, March 16. It's in Auburn, IN if you are free! 8am - 4 pm at the Kruse Automotive & Carriage Museum and WWII Victory Museum. (Auburn is near Fort Wayne) So, the past few days have been a whirlwind of sewing, quilting, rewriting, designing....whew! I'm tired! You can see from the photo what a mess i've made of my workspace. Don't worry, the rest of the house is... Continue reading

The UPS man just left and take a look at what he brought me! Is that some Amy I see in there you ask? Why, yes it is. And Martha? Yes! And Kaffe?!? Triple YES!!! So, my plans for the evening include listing lots of yummy fabric in the shop. Check often for new stuff because I'll be posting it every few minutes until it's all there! ;) In the meantime, here's an actual photo of the Lime and Aqua collection, which is really lime and aqua and navy and grey! ;) Working on a new quilt from this little... Just popping in for a sec to show you a fun collection I put together this afternoon. Working on ideas for samples to make for an upcoming quilt show and this is what I came up with. Maybe tomorrow when I have sunlight, i will take a real pic to show you. This collage was made from the computer swatch the fabric companies put on their websites. Sometimes the colors are a little truer with real photos. You can find this Fat Quarter collection here. Lime, aqua, grey, and navy...i like it! ;) Happy Sewing, Julie Continue reading
