I slept in Mother's Day morning (a gift in itself) and then the kids came in with breakfast on a tray ~ a breakfast of perfectly poached eggs on toast and blackberries with whipped cream. Yum. There were small presents. And then photos. Anne saw these pics and asked, "Where... Continue reading

Got a bit of pink paint on my hands last week... Pulled out the vintage Meyercord decals... Finished the Posy diamonds doll quilt and a matching pillowcase... And turned a basic Ikea doll bed into this oh-so girly sweet confection. For Olivia, of course. (I used 2" diamond paper pieces... Continue reading

I remember when Mia's first nap was at 9:30 in the morning. Oh the times, they are a'changing. Now she's transitioning to just one nap a day, but it's really not enough and it makes me ahem, her cranky ~ you know, sometimes, just a little. Luckily she's got a... Continue reading

Oh, it's been a good week... Found this bundle of Mrs. March's 30's prints on Etsy and though it looks amazing sitting on my shelf right now... I am in search of the perfect quilt pattern for it. The possibilities make my head spin. And lots of other fun stuff... Continue reading

You know, in real life, I've always been considered kind of a ditz. Having four kids hasn't helped ~ no, sir. And on friday I had my wisdom teeth pulled, which means... well... I don't feel any dumber but my head does hurt. That's my excuse, at least, for taking... Continue reading

Surprise mail is the best ~ especially when it delivers exactly the thing you didn't know you really really wanted. Um no, not this canning jar pin cushion. I was inspired to make that after I spotted the pretty things at this shop. No, it's these cross stitch stamps. They... Continue reading

Quite suddenly I realized the pillow I'd made for Mia's bassinet is now ridiculously too small. She's moved to a mini-crib (very convenient when you're crammed into a tiny house like ours) and her head has, like, doubled in size ~ definitely time for a new pillow. I stitched up... Continue reading

Choosing the binding for Mia's quilt was getting difficult until I remembered... I can use all three of the fabrics I like best! One piece was full length, one was only a fat quarter, and the other was an odd length so I ended with a very randomly pieced binding,... Continue reading

Last week, at the very last minute, I decided I really wanted to see my dad for his 70th birthday... Next morning, Mia and I got on a plane to Connecticut for a surprise visit. My sister picked us up from the airport and we went straight to the restaurant... Continue reading

Have you seen? There's a new book out there called "S is for Stitch" and it just happens to be written by none other than Kristyne Czepuryk, my homegirl that you all know as the hilarious voice behind Pretty by Hand. Honestly, I am so proud of sweet K, but... Continue reading

It starts like this: Pulling fabrics and squinting and staring at different combinations for a while. Then you add prints, remove prints... look at them in different light. Then I get all excited about putting them together... For this one, I did a simple one patch on diagonal. The squares... Continue reading

I call Mia "the Wonder baby" not only because she charms me to no end and I adore her to the moon and back, but because she is the miracle baby we didn't expect my body could nourish and grow ~ she's the baby we didn't expect to ever hold... Continue reading

My fabric-hoarding instincts had taken a backseat for a while, but since we've all been sick and home-ridden I've been up to my old tricks ~ shopping for fabrics online and clicking 'buy it' 'buy it' 'buy it' when I really shouldn't shouldn't shouldn't. Thank goodness we're all on the... Continue reading

sorry for the late response... I don't always apply batting to the back of the fabric but especially on light colored fabrics when I don't want to worry about seeing loose threads from the back, I'll use it. And I do embroider right through both fabric and batting. xo amy

It really makes me nervous when a sewing project requires following a pattern because I'm truly a self-taught sewer ~ I mostly do my own thing and I've got seriously little experience with what I call "real sewing." But when Jill Hamor sent me her new book "Storybook Toys", I... Continue reading
