I've been on a chocolate baking kick lately. The hubby and kid demand it, constantly. Sometimes I wish that I wasn't the only one that likes fruity and non-chocolate dessert in our house. Mmmmm, coconut cake, vanilla pudding, creme brulee, apple pie, the list goes on and on. C'es la vie! Once again, while perusing my favorite food blogs, I come across this recipe for Oreo Brownies. I say to myself, there's cream filling in oreos. Everyone wins! Therefore, I'm gonna be baking these beauties this week. Oreo Brownies from Sugar & Snapshots Yield: 16 brownies in a 8x8x3-inch (20cm)... Continue reading

Cake, Cake, Cake. This is what I think about most days. What to bake, how to bake, where to find the best cake recipes, look for cake blogs, etc... You get the picture. Speaking of pictures, how do you not bake the Hot Chocolate Layer Cake with Homemade Marshmallows recipe below? Come on! It's my mother-in-law's birthday this weekend and I've been tasked with baking "THEE CAKE." I'm up for the challenge. Why is it a challenge? My mother-in-law rocks in the cake baking realm. She's a hard act to follow, so gonna try an out-cake her. I'll let you... Continue reading

Flying home from New York yesterday from a job interview and bored out of mind, I decided to check out some new food bloggers. I came across Nutmeg Nanny via Pinterest (my addiction as of late). What caugh my attention you might ask? A fantastic pic of a donut. Not just any old donut but the kind you would find in a little boutique doughnut shop (these are all the rage in Chicago) on the corner in NY, Chicago, LA, you get the drift. The pic was posted by a blogger named Nutmeg Nanny (referred to above). Cute name, right?... Continue reading

As most of you know, I'm hard core dieting again. What do I do when I diet? I bake like a crazy woman. All I can do this past week is peruse my favorite food blogs and Pinterest and start compiling all the things I will bake within the month, BUT NOT EAT ANY OF IT! It is all lovingly sent with my husband to work, to school with Senia, or anyone else I love that needs their sweet fix. What is the dessert du jour this week? Six Sister's Stuff Butterfinger Blondies. Look at the picture, take in the... Continue reading

Matthew surprised me with Ree Drummond's new cookbook yesterday, "The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Food From My Frontier. The first thing he's requested is the Steakhouse Pizza and who am I to argue? It looks amazing! Take a look at this! For the recipe, go to: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/09/steakhouse-pizza/ Continue reading

Taylor Street (Little Italy) in Chicago has gone through quite the revitalization over the past 3 years. The neighborhood used to be known for restaurants like Rosebud, Pompeii, Franscesca's, RoSals, and Tufano's to name a few. Not anymore. The old school Italian neighborhood is being transformed by the new school. The Little Italy "Old Timers" have not quite embrased the change YET but the young UIC college students, teachers, young doctors, and professionals in the neighborhood can't get enough. We are thrilled to be a part of this very exciting shift away from the old to the new with Three... Continue reading

For reasons I can't reveal publicly, the boys at The Escape Pod have requested I make these specific brownies. A certain ridiculously popular food blogger, who I cannot reveal was being presented to a client as a spokesperson for their product. It was not Ree Drummond, let me repeat, it was not Ree Drummond. So, today I decided to whip these us up with a little help from my sous chef! Mocha Fudge Brownies Preheat oven to 325 degrees and spray a 9x13 baking pan with non-stick baking spray. To begin making the brownie batter, melt chocolate in a microwave... Continue reading

It's been a while since my last blog post. Life just gets crazy! I am finally back in the kitchen more these days and thought it might be a good idea to actually blog something. Here we go: My little one, Senia is insistant that every time we go to the grocery store that we buy bananas. Supposedly, she LOVES them and promises to eat them. NOT. Adversely, my husband comes home with dozens insisting that he is going to bring one to work everyday that week. Again, not. I do not throw food away. I know I got this... Continue reading

This time of year brings back so many childhood memories for me. There are a few of my Grandma Hilda's recipes that throw me back to 1978 Christmas immediately. Here's the list: Pistachio Bundt Cake, Lemon Poppyseed Cake, Mogen David Jello Mold, Pocketbook Cookies, and last but not least, POTATO CHIP COOKIES. Every December I start scouring my Grandma's Chistmas cookie recipes (all on yellowed scrap paper). She used to have a huge Christmas party every year and started baking all of her goodies about a month prior. All the cookies made it to the closet in her TV room.... Continue reading

Every family get together as a kid, my Grandma made a few different kinds of sweets. There was the ever so lovely poppy seed cake, the interesting Mogen David jello mold, and my all-time favorite pistachio cake. Over the years, I've been on the hunt for the recipe. Finally, last Christmas my aunt made me a cookbook with all of my grandma's original, hand-written recipes (sniff, sniff...I miss my Gram). There it was, the recipe for her pistachio cake! As much as I wanted to stick to the original recipe, I decided to put my twist on it. Grandma would... Continue reading

Sorry it's been a while since my last post. Life is quite busy these days. This past weekend, I decided to keep it simple and make some chocolate chip cookies for the fam. I walked on over to the pantry and decided I needed to make some room and use some of the 5,000 baking ingredients that are currently occupying 75% of the pantry. I pulled out some dried bing cherries, walnuts, chocolate chips, and Heath toffee bits. This may seems like an interesting combination but the cookies turned out really yummy! My husband thinks he may have a mild... Continue reading

Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting "Bake or Break" is one of my favorite food blogs. I check it out everyday, sometimes hourly in anticipation of a new post. Yesterday, I took at peek at the latest and greatest, Strawberry Cake with Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting. The best part of this is the magnificent cake is the pink color. I will pretty much eat any baked good that's pink. What is that about? Here it is! Bake it, Love it, Eat it, And Relish the Beauty. Cake 1 18.25-ounce box white cake mix 1 3-ounce box strawberry-flavored instant gelatin... Continue reading
