Robin, I guess I'd say that it was a personal choice. It was certainly influenced by my parents and my religion, but ultimately I chose based on my own conviction that waiting for marriage was the best decision I could make in order to be true to who I am and who I'm meant to be. It hasn't been an easy choice--especially since it's not a choice made by many of my friends--and I doubt I would have stayed with it if I was only following a religious rule that seemed arbitrary to me. I needed a deeper understanding of God's purpose in designing sex for marriage before I could fully commit to my decision. Hopefully that makes sense.
