Since my last post I've... painted, (wall mural in progress) made a corsage, made oodles of monogrammed wedding favors, made tons of flower pens, and... I even grew peaches. It's been awhile since I've blogged ;) Much love, tMD xoxo Continue reading

Hello all! I hope you have had a fantastic beginning to the new year. So far, 2012 has been super productive for tMD...but the year is still early. I start running out of steam around June :) I've been busy in my studio, mostly trying to finish the mountainous work... Continue reading

Since today was a lazy Midwestern winter's day (a weekend day in the Midwest when we hunker down in our homes to avoid frigid winds and icy roads) I grew a variety of handmade flowers using book pages, felt, grunge paper, and unstretched canvas. This Midwest girl grew flowers on... Continue reading

Thank you so much for your kind words. I watched a great video on youtube and although they look difficult, grunge roses really aren't that hard to make. Here is a link to the video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RQ2ghdws3w I also have some for sale in my etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/listing/90498494/set-of-two-grunge-paper-roses-a

Well said, Julie! I often find myself ignoring my journal in order to work on pieces that have a "reason." I'll be sure to remember your words the next time I push my journal aside!

START OVER! New year, new possibilities people! I apologize for disappearing for so long, but no worries, the Debutante has been hard at work building up an inventory of artsiness for my etsy store and local craft shows. Dear, talented readers, I would LOVE your feedback about these pieces. I'm... Continue reading

November 2nd, 2011 was the day I swore off Christmas. Still reeling from swapping Halloween decor with a Christmas tree, I vowed to avenge autumn. How does one "avenge" autumn you may ask? I started by not packing up the Halloween decor-I simply moved my favorite pieces to my studio... Continue reading

I had never participated in an online swap until recently when I joined The City Crafter Party Blog Thanksgiving swap. And I'm so glad I participated! I sent a box of autumn gifts to Kirsty, and I received this lovely package of artsy goodies from Marion. Can you believe this... Continue reading

Thank you!
Thank you!
It is a 9x12 canvas. The image is printed on vellum and I used watercolor crayons for the rest (I was stuffed into a hotel room with 4 others so my supplies were limited ;)). Thanks so much for the lovely compliments!

A few weeks ago I started searching for some challenges to keep me focused and creating. During my quest, I found what may possibly be my art-challenge-blog soulmate, Smeared Ink. The girls at Smeared Ink (http://www.smearedink.com/) cater to us darker souls...the ones who prefer monsters over puppies. Selling both regular... Continue reading

Thanks for the suggestions--I can't wait to try them out! I remember coming across your project (via Seth's blog) and was so bummed that I didn't make the deadline. I'll be sure to make the next one. Will you be sending reminders? Or do you have an email list I could join? Look forward to hearing from you! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Yep, 34. And I couldn't be happier! As of today, Midwest Debutante has 34 subscribers! You may laugh at my excitement over 34 subscribers, but I can't begin to tell you how much seeing this number has helped me. This past week, I was beginning to doubt my art, my... Continue reading

Thanks to the awesome mixed media artist, Seth Apter at The Altered Page, I was introduced to Grungetastic, an iPhone app made in mixed media heaven. It distresses, scratches, bleaches, texturizes and so much more. (I'm not being compensated by Grungetastic-I just really love their product!) For my first Grungetastic... Continue reading
